Meet the Writer of Rose🙌🏻

Martin Sherman is a London based award winning playwright whose work has been staged in over 50 countries. Best known for Bent which has been produced in 35 countries including as a ballet in Brazil.

His other theatre works includes: Messiah, Some Sunny Day, When She Danced, A Madhouse in Goa & the screenplays The Summer House, Alive and Kicking, Callas Forever and The Boy From Oz (about, and with music by, Peter Allen) which has also played Broadway

What is the story of Rose though?👀

Blending the personal with the political, this sharply drawn portrait of a feisty Jewish woman traces Rose’s story from the devastation of Nazi-ruled Europe to conquering the American dream. Rose reflects on what it means to be a survivor.

Her remarkable life began in a tiny Ukranian village, took her to Warsaw’s ghettos and a ship called The Exodus, and finally to the boardwalks of Atlantic City, the Arizona canyons, and salsa-flavoured nights in Miami beach.

Meet our Director Scott Le Crass👀✨

He is currently working on Buff at Vault Festival, Merboy at Omnibus and Rosalie for Pleasure Dome.

Scott was born in Bristol, grew up in Birmingham, trained as an actor at Arts Ed and was a director on the Birmingham Rep’s first Foundry Programme. He recently completed the National Theatre Director’s Course.

He is an Associate Director for Pleasure Dome Theatre Company.

Scott directed the Off Com award winning digital revival of Rose by Martin Sherman starring Maureen Lipman (Hope Mill Theatre/Sky Arts/Broadway HD). Last year he received an Off West End and Broadway World nomination for Best Director for Rose. In May, Rose will be transferring to The West End.

We are very excited to have him be a major part of Rose🙌🏻
