Happy Sauvy-B Day ! 🥂

Sauvignon Blanc, named “Sauvi” as in ‘Savage’ because it grows like crazy 🍇

The best is from Marlborough, New Zealand where it tastes super limey 🍋‍🟩 or Pouilly-Fumé in France, where it tastes smoky (fumé 💨) because of the flinty soil it grows in

This is your excuse to open a bottle ! 🍾

Happy weekend winos 🥂

Here’s a shot from our recent visit to Crete, where we visited lots of vineyards & tasted plenty of Greek wine 😋

Crete is home to one of the earliest known wine presses, due to one of the most ancient civilisations settling here 🏛️

Their wines are often high in alcohol, made from grapes such as Plyto, Dafni, Vilana and Liatiko 😋

Here our somm was checking out the vines at a monastery where they grew their own olives as well as their own wine 🫒

Cheers to the clocks going forward, the days getting brighter and the sun coming out ☀️

Springtime for a grapevine is when it wakes up & sprouts little buds. Tiny white flowers will start to grow 🌸 each one of these will become a grape ! 🍇

What are we sniffing for..?👃🏼💐

During each of our wine tours, we talk you through how to smell wine like a sommelier 🍷

We look for primary, secondary and tertiary aromas 🧐

🥇 Primary aromas come from the grape itself
🍇🍓🍋🍏🫐

🥈 Secondary aromas come from the winemaking processes after harvest, and rely a lot on how the wine is fermented
🥐🍦🥯🪵🥖

🥉 Tertiary aromas turn up when the wine has been aged
👴🏻🍄🌳🚬👞

We bring everyone a hand-illustrated tasting card when you book with us, so everyone can spot each of these aromas 💐

❄️ Snow day ❄️

What’s the perfect pairing for this weather ?

A dark juicy red snuggled up by the fire would be ideal. See if you can find an Alicante Bouschet 🫐 from Portugal or go for a Rioja Reserva 🔥
‘Reserva’ means the Spanish wine has been aged for at least 3 years, with 1 year in an oak barrel, creating a lovely smoky chocolatey (oaky !) flavour 🌳

Or pretend you’re on the ski slopes with a German Riesling or Austrian Grüner Veltliner.
GV (pictured here) is a high acid white with flavours of starfruit, gooseberry & gravel ⭐️ ..one of our somm’s favourites !

This lovely group booked us for our Greek myth tour because they enjoy wine and stories - the perfect combination 🥂🏺

We had such a great time with Tim and his gang, and we’re really pleased they did too !

14 tastings, 195 bottles of wine, 1365 glasses, 1 new tour and a couple of vineyard trips 🍇

2023 has been full to the brim for us, and we can’t wait to get pouring again in 2024 🌟

How’s the Christmas prep going everyone ? 🎄

When you book a tasting with us, we set everything up & take everything away …except the good stuff: you keep your leftover wine and food !

We loved this tour we put on for Sam & her friends. It was a special one 🌟 They won the evening in an auction in aid of Bury Hospice 🥂

We can’t wait to get prepping for more tasting tours in 2024 !
