𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓! 𝐃𝐎𝐍'𝐓 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒 𝐎𝐔𝐓! ‼️

The day has arrived... 7pm at Burnham Market Primary School. We will certainly work with the school as we have an afternoon workshop at which the children will learn new music skills and those who wish to will come back in the evening to participate with the professionals in a public performance. Certainly different and the music too will be different from the glorious recital we had last night by Joo Yeon Sir and Irina Andrievsky. They were wonderful at engaging with our audience, chose a programme to make people smile and went home thinking "such high quality of music in a very friendly Norfolk Country Church!"

Hymn is a band primarily consisting of Chris on the trumpet George on the double Bass (incidentally he is a prof at UEA too) and David on electronics joined on Friday by violinist Syliva. They take a great tune and play it in many variations and extemporise in amazing ways. Follow the tune if you can, it disappears and comes back. I think the children will love the interpretation which comes in a folk character, jazz, looping or anything they come up with and being part of some of it.

This is quite a new departure from our usual offering but anyone who has been to Ronnie Scotts in London will jump for joy and those who haven't will be surprised that this new type of music for Music in the Burnhams to offer is so enjoyable fun and makes one happy.

What a great combination for a recital.

What memories we have of the cello sonata by Elgar and the glorious melodic phrases. The same is true of his violin sonata and beautiful melodies too from Clara Schumann. Contrast that with the technical fireworks of Kreisler and the happiness and foot tapping joy of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess.

Surely an evening to raise the spirits as Autumn creeps in especially if played by too very talented musicians.

All on offer at Brancaster Church this Saturday evening at 7.30pm.

The South Korean violinist Joo Yeon Sir and the Russian pianist Irina Andreivsky will produce some musical magic.

After the sell out spectacular performance by Red Priest it is difficult to get back down to earth and look ahead but we have two equally impressive musicians coming on 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐭 𝟕.𝟑𝟎𝐩𝐦

The South Korean violinist Joo Yeon Sir is well known to Norfolk and a favourite with Music in the Burnhams audiences.

Educated at the Purcell School and at the Royal College of Music, London where she studied with Dr. Felix Andrievsky as a scholar, Joo Yeon Sir has been a major prizewinner at national and international competitions in the UK and abroad and has performed as recitalist, chamber musician, and soloist with many of the famous orchestras and in many of the world's well known venues.

Sir Karl Jenkins has written works just for her and she is a notable composer herself and will perform the work My dear Bessie which was commissioned by a Norfolk resident in memory of his parents. Joo Yeon will be joined by Irina Andrievsky on piano.

The programme is a mixture of beautiful haunting Elgar, Frolov's Fantasy on Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, technical fireworks from Fritz Kreisler and melodious romances from Clara Schumann. Doors open at 6:45pm so come early, choose your seat, and enjoy a glass of wine!

The Baroque period was one of incredible and wonderful experimentation in music, crazy performers competing against one another, stealing and re-writing each other's works, mixing and developing new styles, always searching for something new to titillate the ears and move the souls of the public.

Music has the power to lift people out of the problems of their daily lives, and to help them to connect with a higher source. Engaging with their audience is very important to Red Priest. In many classical concerts the audience is excluded. Red Priest, by whatever means possible, engages with its audiences. Red Priest will certainly bring drama! Flamboyancy guaranteed. Technique skills astonishing but most importantly glorious emotional music.

Recorder player Piers Adams says “We found that considerable drama and freedom could be achieved by memorising the scores, and also took inspiration from some of the more progressive groups on the world music circuit - especially certain eastern European gypsy bands, for whom virtuoso command, heart-on-sleeve emotion, improvisation and total musical freedom are rolled effortlessly into one. We felt that Baroque music too could benefit from such an approach!”

Drama there will be. Flamboyancy guaranteed. Technique skills astonishing but most importantly glorious emotional music.
