In July, we will have been running the bereavement cafe for a year. If you’re worried or nervous about coming along, please don’t be. You will be made more than welcome. Katie x💛🐝
When we launched the monthly Bereavement Cafe Mansfield in the Flower Hall at Mansfield & District Crematorium, we hoped that it would make just a little bit of difference to people’s lives.
It’s a free cafe that is run by four celebrants, with support from the lovely people up at Mansfield Crematorium, some other celebrants too when they can, and there are cakes too, baked by PoFfles Coffee and Cake Emporium.
But the only people it is really about is the people who attend.
And so we thought we would ask people about their experience of attending the cafe.
Ann tells us that she had lost her beloved husband Martyn.
It’s fair to say that in the beginning, Ann was reluctant to attend the cafe.
But, after a while, she knew she needed to get out and about.
So, with support, she attended.
Ann told us: “It’s good to talk to people who are suffering with grief, and everyone has a story to tell.
“I find attending the cafe very, very worthwhile and I enjoy going. I’ve met some lovely people, and had a laugh - as well as a cry.”
And Ann added: “I had been anxious with it being at the crematorium, but once you are there, you forget where it is and actually it is quite peaceful.”
Thank you Ann for taking the time to answer a couple of questions.
We’re so proud that the cafe is helping you.
Since setting up the monthly cafe at the crematorium, we have also opened an additional monthly cafe too at the South Mansfield Community Centre (with additional support from a local councillor).
So, if you’re reading this and thinking that the bereavement cafe might be something that would benefit you, please do get in touch.
