Not a 'gearhead' wedding, but a celebration I conducted just before Christmas, and I couldn't have wished for a more glowing review on my Celebrant Directory page from Jo and Morgan 😃

Gibb was not only the perfect celebrant for our wedding blessing, but was also a kind and patient guide during the whole planning process. From initial enquiry all the way through to the big day, Gibb was great at communication, scheduling regular catch-ups so that we could get to know each other and make a perfect plan for our blessing ceremony. Gibb provided examples of things to include in our ceremony so we could achieve a perfect balance of traditional elements and things just for us. He was game to go along with some of our more quirky ideas such as having a blessing in Elvish and suggested ideas of his own, like collecting the rings from a TARDIS (you had to be there
) Overall, planning the ceremony with Gibb was fun and he created something that was personal, funny and just perfect for us. By using surveys, my partner and I and our friends were able to contribute our own ‘re-tellings’ of our story together so that Gibb could write the perfect personalised script for our ceremony. Our friends absolutely loved hearing our story being told in this unique way! I honestly can’t recommend Gibb enough; he was really patient with us when we were a bit overwhelmed by everything, and gently encouraged us in the right direction when it came to decision making for the big day. He’s the perfect guy if you’re looking for a personal ceremony with a difference.
Thank you so much Gibb!

Yesterday I had the honour of officiating the funeral of a true legend in the biking world. Fred Warr began dealing in used Harley Davidsons after WW2, with Warr's becoming the first dealer to import new Harleys post war. The Warr's motorcycle store in the Kings Road was - and remains - the go to place for anything Harley, and count some of the world's most famous rock and acting personalities among their clientele.
His two sons were outriders on vintage Harleys to the hearse at Hastings Crematorium, one wearing Fred's old 'bone dome' crash helmet.
Fred leaves behind a true legacy, and a collection of fine motorbikes in the form of a museum at the Kings Road store, with a further shop in Wandsworth.
The service was a small private affair, but it's possible there will be a public celebration in the form of a ride-out in his honour.
Donations in his name can be made to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

It's time for me to get back into that celebrant saddle! 😎
Like many celebrants, officiating is something we do to bolster another income, and when the pandemic hit I kind of put the celebrant business on the backburner. But with a couple of weddings coming in the next few weeks, it's time to push for some business!
So if you have a 'rites of passage' approaching that requires an independent celebrant, consider one that shares your interests and vision.
To be fair, the weddings I'm about to do aren't 'Gearhead' occasions - I work with 'normal' people too 😄.

In some areas of the UK the registry office marriage service is now digitalised - and this will soon become nationwide. This means the ceremonial signing of a document, a copy of which you keep, will be no more. Newly married couples will receive a print out a few days later. I think this is a great shame. 😕
The good news is, that an independent celebrant (like me) can include a ceremonial signing of a bespoke (unofficial) specially created document to mark the occasion in a couples unique ceremony. 😁
The image is of my own registry wedding 32 years ago in the days before celebrants - it would be a pity if this ritual vanishes into the ether.

A gearhead's valentine đŸ„°

You’re the spark to my ignition
The oil in my transmission
The fuel in my carburetor
I couldn’t be with anyone better

You’re the ni**le to my grease gun
The one who makes my motor run
The piston to my compression
The one who drives my passion

Turn my key and come with me

This has been our most popular Valentine's cookie design so far this year. However, this could change as we're still taking orders for another week or so. Check out our full range of Valentine’s cookies here: https://campervancookies.com/cookies/Valentines_Day

I'm honestly not sure what to think about this, but as a 'way move on to the next stage' it seems to be an environmentally sound solution. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it catches on.
(BTW, the Kent mentioned in the article is in the USA - not the one in which I live!)

Somewhere in Kent, tucked anonymously into acres of warehouses and light-industrial workshops, the first full-service human-composting funeral home in the United States is operational.

Day 7 of our and it is

Planning a Christmas Wedding
..

Here are my top 5 tips ..

1. Start planning early, many venues are booked up with Christmas parties and most family members will have their own traditions – make sure the people you love are free and can plan their annual get together around your celebration!

2. Embrace the Christmas dĂ©cor – the open log fires, twinkling tree, garlands, fairy lights, Christmas crackers and hopefully some snow to set the scene off!

3. Incorporate the Xmas fayre on offer at most venues, who doesn’t love a roast turkey dinner and don’t forget the Christmas cake could be your cake!

4. Keep warm – ensure extra layers are included or go full out winter theme and include a cape with a fur hood! Don’t forget the guests, extra rugs, warming hot toddy’s, also, consider heating some of the outdoor spaces at your venue with patio heaters and maybe add a Hot Chocolate bar ??

5. Or
.ignore Christmas altogether – just because you are getting married at Christmas does not mean you have to plunge straight into the theme, stay true to your beliefs and have the wedding of your dreams

Rev up your ceremony!

I’m a gearhead celebrant with a can-do attitude and retro vibe. The name’s Dave Gibbons but please, just call me Gibb.

I’m a lifelong gearhead and I love anything mechanical, if it’s got an engine - you can count me in! I also like pub rock, rockabilly music and the vintage style that goes with it. Basically, I like old stuff - and by old I mean anything before 1985! If you’re on the same wavelength as me, I can create a bespoke ceremony that reflects and features these passions of ours. But I’m okay with the traditional thing too.

If you’re reading this there’s a good chance you’ve already decided to have an ‘unconventional’ ceremony – and why not! We’ve all attended ceremonies which pretty much adhere to the same format, and have come away with a ‘Well that was nice’ feeling. So why would you want that for your ceremony? You’re unique, so is your relationship, so why not have a ceremony that is tailor-made to reflect that uniqueness, your personality and your passions?

You deserve more than ‘That was nice’!
