Dressing a coffin is such a privilege, each is unique and this one was particularly lovely, for a very special lady, much loved mum, grandmother and great- grandmother. Fully sustainable, all grown by us, including wild strawberry plants, rosemary (for remembrance), aquilegia, pinks, peonies, roses, sweet William and sprigs of Weigela blossom. Fresh, fragrant and natural.

With January behind us we are celebrating the arrival of our very first flower of the 2024 season! The fact that neither of us remember buying red anemone corms is just one of the many joys of flower farming - full of surprises 🤣🤣🙄. And with Valentine’s Day, Mothering Sunday and our first wedding fast approaching we are glad to say the narcisssi, tulips and ranunculus are not far off.

Yes! We have no bananas … but thanks to Tescos in Faversham we have empty boxes for the dahlia tubers to overwinter. It’s been a fantastic dahlia season, which has now drawn to a close. Heroic Anne has lifted all the tubers which are now drying before being packed in shavings and boxed , then stored in a frost free cellar until the spring.

There are still a few places left on our Christmas wreath- making workshops. Come and join Sue and me in Sue’s fabulous studio in Sheldwich and create a beautiful, natural, fully compostable wreath. We will show you how to make the willow base, apply (sustainably sourced) moss and fresh mixed foliage and then decorate it as your artistic juices dictate! Two classes on Saturday, 9th December 10.30-12.30, or 2.30-4.30pm.
Or if you prefer to make a longer lasting dried flower and foliage wreath , for indoors or a protected porch, book in for our workshop on Saturday, 2nd December 10.30-12.30. All materials grown, foraged and naturally dried by us, with willow for the base sourced from one of our lovely grower friends.

.. but the dahlias are still motoring. Gorgeous colours, shapes and sizes. This was one of our flower buckets that went out to a subscription customer this week. Until the frost arrives we will hopefully keep going ( wind permitting!!) for another month or so.

It’s been a busy week! Returned from Greek spring gardening trip on Sunday night, Monday spent cutting and preparing for a wedding in Hackney on Tuesday, Tuesday- Simon and Kinna’s big day, in the fabulous space at Hackney Town Hall - aisle meadow and floral “arch” plus all the bouquets etc for the bridal party- then whisking everything across London and reassembling the flowers etc at the reception venue. It all went smoothly ( thanks in large part to the removal guys taking chairs from ceremony to reception, who kindly took the massive arch arrangements for us in their lorry!!) , Wednesday dealing with a poorly dog and Thursday making a dozen bouquets for our local farm shop. Still plenty of beautiful flowers in our fields if you’d like a bunch for the weekend. xx
