Hi, I’m James and the founder of JEM Catering Solutions.

I was born and raised in Cardiff, I went to Radyr Comprehensive school followed by UWIC. Food was always a big part of family life growing up and I was very lucky to have both parents who are fantastic cooks (Dad still thinks he's better than me).

While I was studying for my A levels, I had a part-time job during evenings and weekends waiting on tables in a hotel in town. I thoroughly enjoyed working in hospitality and decided it was the industry for me.

From there I guess I caught the "bug", I got a department transfer into the kitchen after naturally taking a keen interest and fascination in the work the chefs were carrying out, and how the kitchen operated.

After taking a year out to gain my Ski instructors qualification in Canada I came home and decided that I should dedicate myself to my chosen career path and got a job in a well renowned hotel on the outskirts of Cardiff. That's where I really became passionate about not just food, but the hospitality industry as a whole.

After realising that out in the world there were these things called stars, and some were made by a tyre company called Michelin who award stars to good restaurants, I decided to go and work for a chef who had won 2. I had no idea what to expect or how demanding it would be, but I loved every second of it.

From there on I continued to learn my trade. In 2014 I came back to Cardiff to open Holm House in Penarth, I was then Chef Patron of the Fox & Hounds, Llancarfan and most recently Head Chef at Lanelay Hall.

Lockdown made me realise I wanted to set up my own business and I have been fortunate enough to get a contract to run the catering at Cardiff Golf Club to get me upon and running. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far, and I hope all of my past and future customers enjoy the dishes I create.

JEM Catering Solutions is a new catering business based in Cardiff. We have been fully operational since coming out of lockdown in May, and now are expanding our team. We are seeking an experienced chef at chef de partie level. Our headquarters are based within Cardiff golf club in cyncoed. Our main business streams include: Private dinner parties, weddings, Sunday Lunch, buffet lunches, birthday parties and a small restaurant operation.

This is mainly a part time role, with a nice mix of daytime, evening, weekend and weekday hours. Occasionally, we may require extra shifts to be covered due to holiday cover etc. However, most weeks will be roughly 20 hours spread over 3-4days

Main duties and responsibilities include:
*Assisting the senior chefs with the day to day running of the kitchen
*preparing and cooking dishes according to recipes outlined by the head chef
*displaying culinary flare for creating new dishes and specials
*maintaining high standards of food hygiene and personal hygiene at all times
*performing general cleaning tasks
*performing any other duties outlined by your line manager

The ideal candidate should:
*have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for cooking
*have a god understanding of basic and classic cooking techniques
*ensure company standards are met in all aspects of the kitchen
*display excellent standards of personal hygiene
*have a hands on positive attitude towards work.
