I met Jonathan when we were both working as musicians in Brussels, Belgium. It was here that I put my heart and soul into learning the beauty of the french language. We both ended moving back to the UK and although I can’t claim to be fluent, I reminisce on my time spent abroad each time I sing a french chanson like those of Édith Paif or Françoise Hardy 🇫🇷🤍🇧🇪

Jazz and pop music’s royalty called her one of their own. “If I’m the Duke, man, Peggy Lee is the Queen,” decreed Duke Ellington, adding, “I consider her as great a musician as Frank Sinatra, who in that world is king.” Sinatra offered his take on the matter: “Peg is just about the best friend, a song ever had.”

Peggy Lee is a huge inspiration to our vocalist and both musicians love playing one of her all time classics, Why Don’t You Do Right for it sass and big band feel 🎷

Meet Maya Bovill: Rendezblues very own vocalist. Although in most of her other musical projects and writings she accompanies herself with guitar, for this jazz duo she lays her guitar aside to focus on the intricacies of a mesmerising vocal performance. Graduating the BRIT school & Goldsmiths University along side alumni such as Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse & Adele, she’ll serenade you till your spellbound.

John Coltrane’s saxophone sound—brooding, searching, dark—is still one of the most recognizable sounds in modern jazz. Although he departed this mortal plane more than fifty years ago; today he remains among us, more alive than ever. His sound continues to grab the ears of an ever-widening circle of fans. His legend is stone solid: planted firmly in our culture as that of any 20th century musical giant.

Although we currently perform as a jazz duo, guitar and vocals, we look forward to expanding someday to include more instrumentalists. Saxophone is high on our dream list ✨

Known for her deep, expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, rhythm and blues and jazz, Amy was a shepherd of the past. Nobody matched Winehouse's unique transitions or her utterly weird phrasings. She sounded like an original sixties soul star, developed when the landscape had no rules.
