This week has been a real reminder of the love thats exisits in this world.

A cup of coffee while reading through all the beautiful words for Eleanor and Ian’s romantic ceremony at Shuttleworth House this afternoon. I love that moment when all the months of discussions, ideas and preparation come together and you wake up excited about the day ahead.

I met three lovely sisters this week who were saying farewell to their lovely Dad, each of them reading beautiful tributes. I love Becky Hemsley, and have her books of poetry as I think she has a wonderful way of capturing the complexity of emotion without the complicated verse.
This was one of the tributes which was read, and it pulled on my own heart strings as many do, because under all the things we do day to day they are always there, the outside world wouldn't know it, but inside there is a whole concerto reminding you of thoughts of them.

I get asked ‘How did you get into this work?’ All the time. I sometimes sensitively answer, but only if I think the answer might be too raw to hear. But most of the time, and many of you will know, I do what I do because I lost my son. 4 years tonight to be exact. We don’t know when exactly, but sometime over the night he left us.

So all I ask is tonight you remember this beautiful big hearted young man. Raise a glass, or just hold someone you love. Just for a moment be grateful for everything you have, for I will always be grateful for being your mum Lewis. Xx

Off to The Gibbered Garden today for Gemma and Lee’s ceremony. Designed by Sir Frederick and Lady Pat Gibberd and their former home for nearly 50 years.

Looking forward to seeing the formal terraces, lawns, and pools along with the collection of modern sculpture and architectural pieces Sir Frederick and Lady Gibberd acquired over their lifetime – from nationally celebrated sculptors like Gerda Rubenstein, to quirky pieces by young artists they discovered.

I had the lovely honour of speaking at the first Professional Forum at Oak Hill Lawn Cemetery & Crematorium last night. A number of professionals from officiants, funeral directors, masons and crematoria staff came together to talk about mental health, the responsibility we carry, our dedication to families, and how we can help support one another in what is a deeply rewarding but emotional vocation.

Its no secret many decide to help others though loss of their own, myself included. Its not simply a job, every little part of ourselves is put into what we do. And last night we heard from some of my favorite people I get to call my peers, but friends.

I wrote this poem yesterday to close the evening, a dedication to everyone involved in making that farewell as special, as personal and as beautiful as a loved one deserves.

Happiest of Anniversaries to Mr and Mrs Price today.

This is everything I have to tell you about love: nothing.
This is everything I've learned about marriage: nothing.
Only that the world out there is complicated,
and there are beasts in the night, and delight and pain,
and the only thing that makes it okay, sometimes,
is to reach out a hand in the darkness and find another hand to squeeze,
and not to be alone.
It's not the kisses, or never just the kisses: it's what they mean.
Somebody's got your back.
Somebody knows your worst self and somehow doesn't want to rescue you
or send for the army to rescue them.
It's not two broken halves becoming one.
It's the light from a distant lighthouse bringing you both safely home
because home is wherever you are both together.
So, this is everything I have to tell you about love and marriage: nothing,
like a book without pages or a forest without trees.
Because there are things you cannot know before you experience them.
Because no study can prepare you for the joys or the trials.
Because nobody else's love, nobody else's marriage, is like yours,
and it's a road you can only learn by walking it,
a dance you cannot be taught,
a song that did not exist before you began, together, to sing.
And because in the darkness you will reach out a hand,
not knowing for certain if someone else is even there.
And your hands will meet,
and then neither of you will ever need to be alone again.
And that's all I know about love.

I confess, this had a little tear sneak out seeing message this morning. Its exactly how I hope all families feel. Making a hard time just a little bit easier.
I'll never forget what an important vocation this is, and every single memory that is shared is treasured and treated as my own.
