Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and music filled New Year in 2025. There is so much wonderful music going on in Jersey these days. We are blessed with our choirs, orchestras, players and singers and music makers covering every genre in the musical orbit.

Diva Opera will be back in Jersey to perform on July 7th 8th and 9th bringing us new productions of Don Pasquale, The Marriage of Figaro and a Magical Gala Evening. All this followed by the Ballet d'Jerri on the 10th.

I hope the Opera Festival dates are now firmly in your diary. Booking opens mid January on Eventbrite and I look forward to seeing you at the Opera if not before at another musical event on this amazing Island.

At the end of a very wet day with just a glimmer of sunshine before dusk here is a note to raise the spirits.

Coming soon (well next July 7, 8 and 9 to be precise), to a marquee near here, Diva Opera will be back bringing their new productions of Donizetti's Don Pasquale and Mozart's Marriage of Figaro. The Gala on the 9th promises an evening of magic and musical fireworks. Watch this space for more details.

Diva Opera's stunning new production of La Traviata has had it premier in France and will be touring England before coming to Jersey on Monday July 8th. Directed by award winning Cameron Menzies, artistic director of Northern Ireland Opera, and with wonderful singers and gorgeous costumes it is sure to be a highly memorable evening to start our 36th annual Opera Festival.

Just over two months to go until Diva Opera return to Jersey for three evenings of glorious opera. The early bird tickets finish next week so get your skates on and book now. Still much better value for first class opera close up than all the hassle of flying to London and staying in an hotel not to mention expensive restaurants and taxis! Love opera in Jersey!

Autumn nights drawing in and getting even darker after this weekend. Let's look forward to next Summer and the 36th Domaine des Vaux Opera Festival from July 8 - 11. Long light sunlit evenings, glasses of chilled champagne, delicious canapés and Diva Opera returning to Jersey with new productions of La Traviata, the Barber of Seville, and an enchanting Gala Evening. All this followed by another night with the Ballet d'Jerri! Put the dates in your new diary and enjoy the anticipation of four magical nights of opera and dance.

PS I will NOT be having my hair cut by the Barber this time!

We have done it! The piano is saved and will stay in Jersey thanks to all the wonderful music lovers who so speedily made donations to the appeal. In fact it is on its way now to St Mark's Church for the concert with Viennese pianist Anika Vavic tomorrow night and then to Hotel L'Horizon on November 10th for Blood Cancer's charity dinner and concert with Diva Opera.
Thank you all SO MUCH for responding so quickly and generously. It can now be used for many lovely musical events in the Island in the future.

Well amazingly the Piano Appeal has reached the astonishing amount of £16,500 already. Just £4,500 to go. If you are thinking about supporting this musical moment do please get in touch with me as soon as possible. There will be rewards for all in terms of continuing performances by the wonderful Diva Opera and lots of other opportunities for musical events with the splendid Yamaha Concert Grand piano.

Without the piano we would not have..... the silliness of Cosi fan Tutti, the fire and passion of Carmen, the charm of Eugene Onegin or the enchantment of the Magic Flute ... all live performances in Jersey over the last few years.

La Traviata and the Barber of Seville are to come in 2024.

I have launched an appeal to save/buy the Yamaha Concert Grand piano that we use every year for the Opera Festival. It is the only piano of this quality that has been available to hire in the Island and is essential for our Festival and other events.

The new owner of Island Music will sell it in London if it is not out of the shop by October 13th. I need to raise £21,000 and have already received pledges for more than £6,000 of this amount. If you would like to contribute please message me. All donations from £500 to £5000 gratefully received. Complimentary tickets to next year's operas will be one of the rewards for contributing.

The piano will belong to the Opera Festival and will still be available to hire by other organisations and charities for musical events. It makes an important contribution to Island life and should be kept in Jersey for us all to enjoy.

Please help me to save it!

Here it is in the Opera marquee waiting for Bryan Evans to work his magic and convince us once again that a full orchestra is not necessary when you have a pianist of his quality to accompany the singers.

Diva Opera gave us three completely magical evenings of opera once again this year. L'elisir d'amore was a treat from start to finish - so joyous and with delightful performances from all the singers. Matthew Hargreaves on his red tricycle with red top hat was a splendid Doctor Dulcamara, Huw Ynyr as the lovesick Nemorino and Tereza Gevorgyan as the teasing Adina were a perfect couple and the production was filled with dancing as well. What more could you ask for?

Rigoletto was completely spellbinding. The audience were so involved with the saga of the misunderstood Rigoletto, wonderfully sung by Philip Smith, and the lovely Gabriella Cassidy at her absolute best as Gilda, that you could have literally heard a pin drop! The cast, costumes and simple set were all excellent.

And then the Gala with a delightful selection of opera arias duets and ensembles from the singers followed by the astonishing Manu Brazo on the saxophone and Richard Suart with his Gnu. Huge thanks to Bryan Evans and Anne Marabini Young for their amazing ability to keep producing new and wonderful operas for us to enjoy every year.

Rigoletto - Love, lust, revenge, murder, tears and wonderful music. What more could you ask for with an evening of Diva Opera? Tickets - a limited number - still available from Eventbrite or me! Tuesday July 11th at 7.30.

The Gala on Wednesday will lift the heart with a joyous selection of opera solos, arias and ensembles in the first half followed by a lighter selection of music and song in the second. If you feel a whole opera performance is not for you this is the best evening of beautiful music in an intimate setting you will find in Jersey this summer. Wednesday July 12th at 7.00.

All this and we are raising funds for Jersey Zoo and Trees for Life too! What more could you ask for on a summer's evening?
