Winter solstice, the pause between breaths

The earth has been withdrawn inside herself. Winter brings the hardships of cold and shortness of daylight. Very little growth has happened, but deep within the Earth, Roots have been growing, bringing stability and nutrients to the plants and trees. New buds are slowly forming on the trees and bushes and deeply buried bulbs are beginning to send up their first hardy shoots. All of nature has slowed down, waiting for the energy to change and for warmth to return.

First snow ❄️ 💙

The snow
began here
this morning and all day
continued, its white
rhetoric everywhere
calling us back to why, how,
whence such beauty and what
the meaning; such
an oracular fever! flowing
past windows, an energy it seemed
would never ebb, never settle
less than lovely! and only now,
deep into night,
it has finally ended.
The silence
is immense,
and the heavens still hold
a million candles; nowhere
the familiar things:
stars, the moon,
the darkness we expect
and nightly turn from. Trees
glitter like castles
of ribbons, the broad fields
smolder with light, a passing
creekbed lies
heaped with shining hills;
and though the questions
that have assailed us all day
remain - not a single
answer has been found -
walking out now
into the silence and the light
under the trees,
and through the fields,
feels like one

Congratulations to the lovely Susan who got married in Morpeth yesterday. It was a pleasure to make her everlasting wedding bouquet to tie in with her stunning dress made by the very talented of The Creative Studio, Morpeth. Lovely choice of fabric in emerald green with a layer of sheer embroidered floral fabric over the top. Gorgeous and unusual 😍 All flowers grown in my little flower patch 🌼

I will be at Rothbury Makers Market in the Jubilee Hall this Saturday 13th from 10am to 4pm with my everlasting bouquets and wreaths. There will be lots of other makers there too and it's supposed to be a beautiful sunny day so please pop in and say hello!

What a fantastic evening last night

The pub was looking beautifully festive and even a little magical with the misty weather, twinkling fairy lights, painted windows and decorated hop vines adorning the inside! (Wish I'd taken pics but didn't have time!)

The flow of festive ales, mulled wine & mince pies certainly kept everyone in good spirits - it was lovely to meet the other stall holders and chat to all the friendly customers - thank you so much for your support!!

Also an amazing £425 raised for The Duchess Community School Hardship Fund! Well done all involved!

Another everlasting wreath for the Christmas fair next Wednesday

This rather striking Pampas grass wreath is a beauty and would look particularly stunning above a fireplace or a bedhead!

It measures 60cms across and took 12 large stems of Pampas grass to fill!!!

Beautiful everlasting honesty wreath ready for my Christmas fair next Wednesday!

It took a huge amount of time to peel the outer layers off every single one of these seed heads but I think it was worth it in the end!

New wreath commission - jam packed with some lovely vibrant colours - mustard & deep pink dahlias, blue larkspur, nigella pods, dusky pink helichrysum, limonium and amaranthus 😍 All natural, organically grown sustainable flowers from Northumberland.

Everything's going 'pop' in the cutting garden! I've spent lots of time snipping today and then wandering back up the garden with an armful of flowers and a big smile on my face 🙂 It makes all the hard work worthwhile!
