The YCRA Nottingham Event Sign-Up has dropped! Please contact us if you have not received your sign-up email.

Finalised details will be sent to those who have signed up to the event nearer the time, but for those of you who want a bit more detail before signing up, the day will consist of 4-5 towers within the Nottingham area between 10am and 5.15pm, with a curry afterwards (a separate sign-up will be sent out for the curry, for those who want to join).

This event is arranged by young ringers, for young ringers. We can't wait to see you there! 🔔

This week we are delighted to introduce another of YCRA's founding members, Josephine Leggett! 👋 Read Josephine's story below!

🔔✨🔔✨

Hi everyone! I’m Josephine and I’m another one of the founding members of the YCRA. About five years ago a friend dragged me up the tower at my village’s fair and I’ve been ringing ever since.

I learnt to ring at Ditchling which is an anti-clockwise eight in Sussex but I’ve just moved to Bristol to start my law degree and have been loving getting involved with the university society.

I was fortunate enough to have a few ringers in my year at school and so I always had someone my own age to ring with (and compete against!) but also to learn from. I remember one GCSE chemistry lesson a friend spent the whole hour drawing out diagrams and teaching me how to ring touches of plain Bob. However, not all young ringers have that chance and I wanted to help create a safe space for young ringers to meet and relax without so many adults around and so I got involved in setting up this group which I am immensely proud of.

As everyone else has said, I’m really looking forward to seeing lots of you (hopefully) on our outing to Birmingham on the 15th January.

Hi all, I'm Emily, another of the YCRA's founding members and it's so exciting to be able to share our plans for the YCRA with you.

I wanted to create something like the YCRA to create a space where young people could develop into independent and competent leaders, teachers and ringers, so that by the time they graduate from the YCRA, they are able to tackle anything the ringing community throws at them.

I was taught to ring at Old Brampton in Derbyshire, which is famous for having a clock face with 63 minutes (explaining my rubbish ability to keep track of time). I later moved to study at the University of Nottingham, during which I was an active member of NUSCR.

I've always been interested in understanding how things work, being an avid fan of my lego set when growing up. Physics and Maths became my favourite subjects at school and, naturally, I went on to study Civil Engineering at university. I now utilise my degree by designing railway trackbed, which occasionally requires me to avoid being run over by trains (very different to being able to play God with my duplo railway set).

As you can imagine, the railway and engineering world has similar issues to the ringing community around race and gender. I am determined to be an ally and voice to those who need one and make the YCRA a safe space for all.

I look forward to meeting many of you at our events in the following months!

It's time to get to know the founding members of the YCRA, all ringers under 30 from all across the UK! This week we are introducing Elena Brake 👋

Hello! I'm Elena Brake, I am one of the founding members of YCRA and I live and ring in Plymouth, Devon. I started ringing roughly 4 years ago when I had just left university and I immediately fell in love with ringing. I made such strong friendships so quickly, and now wherever I go in the UK I know that I will have an instant group of friends if I can just find the local practice night! I love the sound of bell ringing and I enjoy the constant challenge of learning new methods.

I got onboard with YCRA because I am very passionate about empowering young ringers so that we can work towards preserving the future of ringing. I help to run some young ringers groups in Plymouth and Devon and was looking for opportunities to connect with younger ringers beyond my local area. A national association that links all of us young ringers together sounded like an excellent plan and I was very excited to be involved.

As well as a ringer I am an artist, which meant I was able to help by designing and making our logo. Seeing that logo transformed into beautiful YCRA pin badges was a very proud moment for me! YCRA is special because it is driven by its members. All of us who help to make the decisions are ringers under 30 ourselves and we are passionate about providing the things that we know, from personal experience, are needed. It has been great fun working with other ringers from across the UK to make the YCRA happen and it was fantastic to then meet some of them in person at Worcester earlier this year when we launched the association.

I'm really looking forward to meeting young ringers from across the UK on the 15th January, to ring together, to get to know each other and to make a good start in paving the way for the future of ringing.
