For a little more help in choosing the perfect wedding venue, I’ve put together a *FREE DOWNLOAD* of questions to ask your venues when you visit.

Using a pre-written list of questions on your visit, will mean that you ask the same questions to all of your venues, allowing you to capture everything needed whilst you’re there. It will also give you a better tool for comparing your preferred venues when you’re back at home. Some questions will be more relevant to you than others- so skip over the ones that aren’t and tailor them to your needs.

Top tip: Take your list along with you and jot down notes as you go. Also, take a few photos whilst you’re walking around too… they’ll help to jog your memory in case you forget which venue was which!

Always make sure you visit multiple venues- even the ones you’re not sure about.

Sometimes it’ll be the one that's least appealing that will be “the one”! By visiting several venues, you’ll also get a feel for what you like and what you don’t like, which will help you to narrow down your choices.

Take note too of recommendations and reviews, as experience may influence your decision. And always take lots of photos- it will help you remember the different parts of each of the venues that you visit.

Often a factor that’s overlooked; lighting can be a big part of your wedding day.

You want to be able to use your venue throughout the day and into the evening- so think about how the venue looks both in the day and at night. Understand how you can add your own lighting to create the right atmosphere for your style & theme.

You’ll be taking lots of photos at your wedding, so think too about where the sun sets ready for your golden hour photos, see how the light plays during the daytime as well as options for night shots.

I just love the glass star lanterns hanging from the trees, they create such a magical, romantic atmosphere!

What is the most important thing to you about your wedding venue?

Is it the grounds?
The view?
Do you want to be able to get married in the woods or close to nature, or is a beach location what you’re looking for?
Is a venue with a rich history important or is it more about the location?
How about exclusive use of the venue?
Do you need an in-house caterer, so that's one less supplier to arrange?
Accommodation on site?

Working out what’s most important to you both, will help to narrow down your venue search. Ultimately look for a wedding venue that reflects your personality and the style of wedding that you're looking to create, but especially, make sure it's a space that you feel comfortable in.

If you’re just starting out on your wedding planning journey, your thoughts are probably turning to venues...

With hundreds of wedding venues in Essex alone, the big question is how to choose?

It’s an enormous decision to make and can hugely influence the style & feel of your wedding – so take your time! To help you get on the right track, here are some things I always encourage my couples to consider when they're thinking about their wedding venue:

1) Think about what you want to get from your venue- what’s important to both of you? What are the nice to haves and what are the essentials?

2) Think about the style of your wedding.

3) Stick to your budget- work out how much of your budget is allocated to your venue & stick with it.

4) Think about your location.

5) Are you having a legal ceremony at your venue? If not, it doesn't need to be licenced!

6) Consider your space.

7) Lighting- think about day & night, inside & out!

8) Visit multiple venues- even the ones you’re not sure about.

9) Take your time and trust your instincts.

A multicultural wedding doesn’t just signify the joining of two individuals in love, it also represents the coming together of two families and a fusion of two cultures in one unity.

Today is Chinese New Year, celebrating the beginning of the year of the snake and it's the perfect time to reflect on the wonderful fusion weddings that I've had the opportunity to be a part of in the past.

There were were so many nods to Chinese culture at S&Vs wedding at - the Chinese symbols used on the wedding stationery, the dressing gown worn by the bride during her morning preparations, the colour of the flowers, bridesmaids dresses and groomsmen's accessories and of course the traditional tea ceremony held in the presence of their cherished family and friends.
