Brecon Buzz’s main busyness these days is running Brecon Choir Festival with a great team of folk passionate about all things choral. Great to announce the latest update for this years events not least with the Young Singer Award competition coming up on the 9th March.

Our Young Singers Award 2024 is now OPEN to applicants.

The winner will have the chance to perform at the festival's Grand Concert alongside London Welsh Male Voice Choir in Brecon Cathedral

As anybody who saw Erin Thomas' brilliant performance with Treorchy Male Choir last year (as well as for King Charles and Queen Camilla!), it presents a wonderful opportunity and showcase for emerging Welsh talent.

Very excited to be welcoming this wonderful young choir to Brecon Choir Festival next year! 🎶🎵🎶🎵

How's this for timing?! Announcing for BCF 2024 on Solstice!✨

Solstice Choral Ensemble is a Cardiff based octet made up of current and graduate vocal students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Established in 2022 to expand on a love of choral singing, their past performances range from the music of Tallis to Whitacre, with highlights including performances of Faure's Requiem and Brahms' Neue Liebeslieder.

The group are keen to work on new music and often work with local composer Tomos Owen Jones. Recent performances include the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Festival, and the Sounds Sublime Festival in collaboration with The Sixteen.

Solstice will be singing pieces by Brahms and a new Henry Vaughan composition from Tomos Owen Jones in line with our 2024 festival theme.

Solstice member Maisie O'Shea said "I am excited to bring Solstice to Brecon, my hometown.I have so many fond memories of performing here throughout my childhood and can't wait to be back".

…and this…festival walking conviviality! 🎵🎶🥾🥾

Announcing a new event: our first ever FESTIVAL HIKE 🚶‍♀️🚶

On the afternoon of festival Friday we will meet in town and head up to Pen y Crug for the most glorious of views across onto the Beacons.

The walk is very manageable (45 mins-1hr each way) and local guides will be on hand to point things out! We then head back into town for a much needed cuppa before the evenings festivities.

The event is free of charge. Please bring decent footwear!

We are delighted to announce that Brecon's Christmas Lights will be switched on this year by Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley - Harry Potter films).

Best known for his portrayal of everyone’s 7th favourite Weasley child, Chris has worked consistently in film, tv and theatre for 23 years, since first landing the role of Hogwarts Prefect aged 16.

Alongside his role in 6 of the Harry Potter films, Chris has appeared in countless plays and pantomimes across the UK, in BBC Dramas, fallen off the “big red balls” on Celebrity Total Wipeout, made it to the final on “Pointless Celebrities” and most recently completed a 175 night tour of Europe with “The Magical Music of Harry Potter”, hosting and performing to over 250,000 audience members alongside an symphony orchestra and choir.

Chris will be switching on the lights at Brecon with Bells On, 18th November, where festive shopping and entertainment can be found in the streets between 12 and 7pm.
