💚 World Mental Health Day takes place this Friday 10 October 2025💚
This year’s theme 'Access to Services' reminds us that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to mental health; and that’s exactly where green social prescribing comes in.
For many people, the idea of traditional therapy or medical settings can feel daunting or inaccessible. But stepping outdoors, walking side-by-side, surrounded by nature, with space to breathe, reflect and be heard; can open up a whole new way to build mental fitness and reconnect with ourselves and others.
Organisations like Mind Over Mountains are showing just how powerful this can be. Our Wellbeing Walks and Retreats combine time in nature with professional coaching and counselling support; creating gentle, non-clinical spaces out in nature where people can recover, reset and move forward.
Over the past few years, Mind Over Mountains has been working very closely with green social prescribers and link workers across the UK, embedding our programmes within local communities so that these walks and retreats can increasingly be offered as a prescription - giving people a real, evidence-based alternative route to mental health support.
The results are clear: participants consistently report significant improvements in their mental wellbeing and confidence, often after just one day walking out in nature.

As we mark , let’s recognise the importance of green social prescribing as a vital part of our national mental healthcare system; helping people find support in ways that feel natural, inclusive and restorative.
