It’s time for a little re-introduction from the person behind this account - me, Oskar! Whether you’ve been following along for a while or you’re new here, I’m so happy to have you as part of this journey. Here’s a bit more about who I am, both professionally and personally.

đŸ‡ŹđŸ‡§đŸ‡”đŸ‡± The British-Polish Dreamer: I moved to the UK as an 18-year-old student and proudly became a British citizen in March 2024. Fun fact: I also spent one semester studying in Canada during my teenage years, which inspired my love for adventure and embracing new cultures.

đŸȘą Life’s Milestones: Tomorrow, my husband and I are celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary! Seven years of laughter, love, and countless adventures, and we both still love all things weddings! ❀

đŸ˜» Fur Baby Parent: Our little family also includes three fur babies - Harley and Holly, our two adorable ragdoll cats, and Hugo, our playful miniature dachshund pup. They most certainly keep life interesting and cosy.

đŸŽ­ïž Born for Events: As a teenager, I performed in theatre and music productions, even having the amazing opportunity to be part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010. These experiences, alongside heading my high school’s student council, cemented my love for public speaking, creativity, and organisation – transferrable skills that fuel my passion for weddings to this day!

I was recently asked by Katie Bletcher at Your Scottish Wedding magazine about what 10 years of same-sex marriages in Scotland means to me and this was my personal response:

"The 10th anniversary of same-sex marriages in Scotland holds profound significance for me, both personally and professionally.

On a personal level, it reminds me of my own journey. Nearly seven years ago, on 13th January 2018, I married my husband in a deeply meaningful humanist same-sex ceremony. Yet, even as we approach 2025, our marriage remains unrecognized in my homeland of Poland. There, we are considered strangers in the eyes of the law. This disparity is more than a bureaucratic inconvenience — it’s a reality that poses challenges whenever we travel or navigate legal processes. For example, while my British passport proudly bears my married name, Oskar Gilchrist-Grodnicki, my Polish passport still identifies me as Oskar Grodnicki.

But it’s not just about names on passports. For same-sex couples in countries like Poland, fundamental rights are often denied. I recently read about a couple who, after 13 years together, faced a heartbreaking hurdle when one partner required a kidney transplant. Although the other partner was a match, Polish law prevented the procedure without a court’s intervention. Stories like this highlight just how much we take for granted in Scotland, where love and equality are celebrated.

Scotland has become my home — a place where my marriage is recognized and where I can live authentically. This milestone anniversary is a chance to celebrate how far we’ve come and to reflect on the ongoing struggles faced by LGBTQ+ individuals worldwide.

Professionally, as a Humanist Celebrant & Wedding Planner, I am privileged to create meaningful, inclusive ceremonies and weddings for same-sex couples. Love is love, and it fills me with pride to help couples craft wedding experiences that honour their unique stories while navigating and sometimes defying outdated traditions and expectations.

One recent experience that stands out is helping two French grooms achieve their dream of a religious ceremony. They exchanged vows in the historic St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh — the first same-sex religious ceremony in the cathedral’s 900-year history, during Pride weekend no less. This milestone was deeply personal for them; as devoutly spiritual individuals, they had been denied this opportunity in their homeland of France. Bringing 80 loved ones to Scotland, they found not only a venue but a place where their love was celebrated with warmth, dignity, and acceptance. Standing in that ancient cathedral, they made history in a way that moved everyone present.

For couples considering Scotland for their wedding, this anniversary is a reminder of the unique, welcoming spirit of this country — a place where history and progress converge, where your love story can unfold in iconic settings steeped in beauty and significance.

So, as we mark this incredible milestone, let’s celebrate with pride and gratitude. Scotland is a beacon of love and equality, and I am honoured to help couples from around the world write their own chapters in its history."

Carolane & Julien had the perfect wedding at the always beautiful Achnagairn Estate! Switzerland met Scotland for this awesome party where whisky was abundant and the dance moves were some of the best I've ever seen at a wedding!

Was great to work with The Wedding Guru - Oskar who had the planning and decor nailed and I had a blast working alongside Geebz Photography again. This was my first wedding where the ceremony was conducted beautifully and seamlessly in 2 different languages with Celebrant Hannah Mitchell from Kingussie switching between French and English flawlessly.

Now all I have to do is transcribe and translate the speeches for the highlights video because my highschool level French isn't helping 😬

The real love story of two university sweethearts celebrating their families and friends in the most epic way 💛Starting with traditional Mehndi celebration on Friday and followed by a wedding day extravaganza on Saturday! What a weekend and simply the sweetest and kindest people on earth - it was a joy to help Lia & Konain to celebrate their special moments😍When we met around a year ago L&K wanted to treat their guests to a very special celebration, initially thinking they’d want a castle but very quickly realising this wasn’t their vibe, so I brought them to Rosebery Steading and they immediately fell in love with the place. After a few creative consultations we landed on a theme for both Mehndi full of rich and traditional oranges, reds and yellows. For Saturday L&K wanted to still celebrate the richness of reds but also include sage green, blush pinks and whites. Tables decorated with cut glass glassware, gold cutlery, rustic place mats, complimented with scatter rose petals in the runners - GORGEOUS! All finished with a sharing family style catering full of Asian influences - DELICIOUS doesn’t describe it well enough! The Wedding Guru Oskar is a luxury wedding planning and wedding venue consultancy brand that launched in 2019.

Before that, I have been involved in the wedding industry since 2009 and this is my story:

November 2019 brought The Wedding Guru Oskar to the forefront to assist wedding planning couples on their exciting journey while supporting independent wedding venues with their marketing and wedding management. I now work with couples needing one-off support, on the day coordination and full wedding planning. Additionally, providing consultative support to unique wedding venues in Scotland.

In this role, I looked after all Scottish accounts for WeddingDates - an online platform for wedding venues and suppliers. During my time at WeddingDates I was responsible for supporting wedding venues in their marketing efforts to provide the easiest access to vital venue information for newly engaged couples. Many venues work with me continuously today on improving their wedding planning efforts.
