Plastic-free July tip 4 - Learn about the 5R’s

Thinking about your waste and especially single-use items can really help limit your plastic use.

Reduce, Reuse, Refuse, Recycle, Rot

-Reduce your use of harmful, wasteful and non-recyclable products.
-Reuse anything you already have and choose products that can be reused.
-Refuse items that you do not need or want, even if offered free, such as straws or bags.
-Recycle any item that you cannot repair or repurpose, if suitable, in the correct place.
-Rot any item suitable for composting, at home or in your local collection site.

Plastic-free July Tip 3 - Support local stores

You can find food and household essentials without the plastic packaging more easily by shopping local. It can be a challenge to find them and change your habits but greengrocers, butchers and refill stores offer more packaging free options.

Avoiding packaging also often means avoiding highly processed foods and using more fresh, local produce.

Here is my most recent refill store shop, which includes sweets, coco pops, tea, pasta, olive oil and toilet cleaner.

Plastic-free July Tip 2 - Reuse what you have

It is better for the planet and better for your pocket to reuse what you already have rather than buying new.

Do you already have a reusable cup, bottle, bag or container that you could use to avoid single use plastics? Could you take some cutlery from the drawer at home for a meal on-the-go rather than use disposable plastic cutlery?

I collect and wash my old food jars to store leftovers in or to take to the refill shop.
What do you like to reuse?

Plastic-free July Tip 1 - Start small

Find a few things, or even just one thing, that you can swap that will work for your lifestyle.
Maybe you could always take a reusable bag shopping. You might prefer bar soap to liquid soap. Ditch the baby wipes for a flannel or napkin. How about a reusable cup or bottle instead of disposables?

Once you have started then try something else. You don’t have to be perfect but keep challenging yourself.

My most recent swap is a plastic free reusable cup.

Have you heard about Sausage&Bubble? We provide eco-friendly parties with a touch of style and luxury.

Ever noticed how many disposable items get thrown away after a party? Now you can hire plates, cups, bowls, tablecloths, napkins, decorations and more to reduce that waste. They will be delivered to you and collected afterwards to be washed, so no extra work for you.

All of my products are plastic-free, so no nasty chemicals to leach into your food or drink and no microplastics released into our water system when they are washed.

If you are interested in hiring or have any questions or comments I would love to hear from you.
