These are both penhill watermelon dahlias - huge dinner plate sized heads of shaggy petals in a mix of pink, peach, lavender and yellow.
The smaller heads of other dahlias are more useful for bouquets but it wouldn’t take many of these to make an urn arrangement stunning.

De- seeding honesty is a lesson in patience but these beautiful translucent seed heads are worth it.
Seed saved for sowing in May.
Also drying here are poppy heads, love in a mist, fern, dill, achillea, grasses and dock.
The mice and voles in the barn will love them 🤦‍♀️

Not going to mention the heat but it’s going to be a rough few days for the flower growers. Watering, dead heading and crossing fingers here.
The cafe au lait dahlia are starting to open and so far looking very pink and less cafe. My new favourite is on the swipe daucus- lots of blooms on one plant ranging from white through pink to chocolate and they close up as they get older - love them.

The courgettes are drying in the sun for - zucchini a scapece. Hope your having a lovely day!

Ready for a dinner party table, glad I’ve grown amaranth it’s so lovely draping over the lip of a footed bowl.
The mechanics are a frog, chicken wire and pot tape.
I am updating the website next week as it’s really not as informative as it should be and I haven’t updated any images since Christmas but it takes me soooooo long and I’d rather be playing in the garden!

Daily dahlia inspection - I have a list of the dahlias I am growing but they are not individually labelled 🤷‍♀️so as they appear I am identifying them from the list and labelling them ( there may have been an easier way!)
My slate labels are leftover roof tiles.
Also going to add a few weetabix to the bottom of a couple that seem to be particular faves of the slugs.

Gomphrena glomosa pink
Winged everlasting flower
Sunflower sunfill green
Tall and giant are the key words!!
