Wedding Fairs ✨

As we enter a new year, venues up and down the country begin to open their doors, providing couples an opportunity to explore the grounds and discuss services with suppliers.

They are a fantastic way to speak to multiple suppliers and get a feel for a venue, however your first few can be overwhelming. Below are a few tips to help you navigate your first wedding fair.

My first tip to any couple or group attending a wedding fair is to take your time, especially if you don’t need to dash off anywhere. If you’re at the beginning of your wedding journey make sure to talk to as many suppliers as possible, we will all have our own nuggets of information to share.

Secondly, when you’re looking round the venue or talking to suppliers don’t be shy to ask questions, we love to talk all things weddings and especially love hearing about your wedding plans!

Thirdly, don’t take too many people with you. When it comes to a wedding everybody has an opinion on what you should and shouldn’t do. Remember it’s your wedding, if you want something, it’s your choice!

Finally, take plenty of photos! Your visit will fly by and with all of the details you’ll be provided with it can feel like a bit of a whirlwind. Photos will help you remember stands, but ultimately who the supplier was and if you made a connection with them.

Planning for rain.

I know we're used to the British weather, but I didn't think in the height of summer we'd be experiencing as many downpours!

It's easier said than done, but try not to worry if the weather forecast is predicting rain. Not only will you have a whole team of suppliers who are prepared for last minute changes, in some cultures it’s considered good luck and symbolises a stronger bond.

To help you to prepare, a few tips to bear in mind are:

• Have a plan B. If any aspect of your day is out in the open consider moving it inside or providing a covered area such as a marquee.

• Purchase or hire a few umberellas and blankets. Your guests will appreciate the shelter and warmth!

• Trust your photographer. If you’re worried about your images, speak with your photographer. They’ll know exactly what they need to do to catch a beautiful shot.

Pop of COLOUR.

The weather clearly hasn't received the memo, so let's hope a pop of colour helps to entice the sun out from behind the clouds!

I absolutely loved working on this shoot at creating a modern and bright table setting. Small and subtle touches such as table runners, candles and napkins can easily help you to introduce colour to your wedding theme.

If you love bright colours please don't ever be scared to use them throughout your wedding. They really do make your wedding stand out!

Keeping costs down, it’s no surprise that weddings are expensive, and with everyday life there's no denying that we’re all feeling the pinch. Over on the blog I’m sharing some tips on how you can save a few pennies when it comes to your wedding.

This week, I'm focusing on your floral decorations and bouquets.

Many of us dream of an abundance of floral decorations and large bouquets, however flowers are expensive, and there’s unfortunately no denying that.

When it comes to your wedding flowers you can be incredibly savvy with your money and get the most out of your decorations. If you’re thinking of a flower arrangement for your ceremony backdrop make sure to reuse this, whether it be as a backdrop for your wedding breakfast table or for your evening reception.

You can also reuse, your bouquet and your bridesmaids’ bouquets as table centrepieces. Not only do you have a beautiful centrepiece but you can also ensure that they will stay fresh to take home.

With the new year and after exhibiting at a few wedding fairs, there’s been quite a flurry of new followers, so maybe it’s time for me to show more than my side profile!

I’m Jodie the owner and planner behind Knotted in Love. I’ve been helping to plan weddings since 2014 and it’s something I’ve never looked back on! It only felt natural to extend my help from just friends and family to other couples in and beyond the Yorkshire region.

The most enjoyable part of my job is having the opportunity to experience so many weddings and to watch everything come together on the day!

When I’m not busy helping couples you can usually find me out walking in the countryside to shut off, although I do I find that a lot of my ideas come to me whilst I’m out and about. I’m also a summer person at heart, and love to travel, in 2022 I finally ticked Positano and the Amalfi coast off my bucket list!

Last but not least, I’m engaged to my wonderful partner David. We too are navigating the wedding planning process, and as a wedding planner, and him in the entertainment industry, you’d think it would be a little easier, but it can still be just as difficult.

One question I see a lot of is “When do I send any of my stationery elements out and follow up my RSVPs?”

If your stationery is being designed and printed, your stationer can help guide you through the process. However, if you are printing everything yourself you can follow the easy to remember dates below:

Save the Dates - 12-18 months

Invitations - 6-8 months

RSVPs - 2-3 months

The sooner you can send and receive everything back the better, and always double check with your venue/caterers on their deadlines for numbers and dietary requirements.
