WILDER Andalusia - Part 2
Of deserts and coastlines.
We've just said farewell to our new pals after riding our way from the mountains to the sea, over mountain passes and through dry canyons to the beach.
We may have battled some crazy weather in those early days but all we'll remember is the laughs, the dreamy descents, the happy-tired legs at the end of every challenging day, and the pretty damn special gang we got to share it all with.
Half returnee SITW folks, half first timers. Some with a pal, most rocking up solo. Thank you all for taking a chance on our wild idea and making it such a dream to make happen!

Has it really only been three days?!
Spring in Andalucia, with a dash of winter on the hills, and a few glimpses of summer on the skin.
Our WILDER trip has been full of adventure so far. Part one has seen us traverse the highlands, getting up close with the Sierra Nevada mountains, and exploring the Gorafe desert just before a hailstorm came in!
Tomorrow we enjoy the descent down to the Tabernas Desert and ☀️☀️
Three days and three completely different rides are still ahead.

Congrats to our newest gang of bikepacking graduates!
This weekend, this lovely gang of six came with bikes of all shapes and sizes, and learnt how to load them up for their first overnight bike adventure!
The gorgeous Lake District put on a show for us, as the group explored its dreamy gravel before setting up camp for the night.
We learnt about kit lists, and tried out a bunch of different bags for size, before the great packing faff commenced! Using to plot our route, we then headed out into the wild.
We love these weekends. We're so lucky to have all the gear riders might need, and great bike hire contacts, so these really are a chance to start from zero and end the weekend as bikepacking heroes!
Just two more intro weekends left in the diary before our summer of bikepacking adventures begin! If you're keen to join one of our trips but don't feel quite ready, these are an excellent place to start.

We've had at peak at the route and it looks INCREDIBLE. A just-the-right-amount-of challenging and beautiful route around one of our new favourite parts of the world.
Some of the SITW crew have been lucky enough to take part in past rallies, and they're incredibly special. Riding alongside with , , and a gang of women from all over the world, the experience of sharing a weeklong adventure in the dirt really can be a little bit life changing.
Stoked that we'll be riding in the same area the following week with our first WILDER trip....Andalucia isn't gonna know what's hit it! 💪

Following the success of last year’s Mechanics School we’ve collaborated with , to bring you another dedicated day of women and non-binary led mechanics lessons on the Friday of this years Summer Gathering.
We’ll be bringing together SEVEN qualified female and non-binary mechanics from around the country, with over 35 years of mechanicing experience between them
These are folks who regularly teach and work in the industry and are excited to be collaborating on this event to share their experience, knowledge and skill across 4 x 90-minute classes throughout the day.
We’re beyond thrilled to be able to bring this crack team together, pay them for their skills and time, and maybe inspire a new generation of mechanics. Any profits will go towards funding our non-profit projects planned for this year.

🇪🇸 A final test trip and recce of our new Andalucia WILDER trip is in the bag, and we reckon this might be our best route yet 👌
We've ridden, pushed and hauled bikes over 1500km of trails in the area over the last 6 months to find the perfect route for 6 days of pure gravel adventure.
Starting in the city of takes of Granada, we head through the badlands of the Gorafe desert, over the Sierra Nevada mountains, through Wild West country, and onto the Mediterranean in Almeria.
We've got 12 folks signed up for a treat at the end of the month and space for a couple more.

Starting In the central highlands, and ending at the Red Sea, in between we'll swim in the Dead Sea, visit Petra, sleep under the stars with Bedouin families, and explore the majestic Wadi Rum desert. We'll join them together with 280km or riding on all kinds of terrain, and feel like we're on another planet at times.

Emptying the sand from my shoes (and everything else) and grateful for a special week in the desert with this lot.
Last February I headed to Jordan to recce a bike trip, with the dream that I could bring a gang of riders back to experience this incredible country.
A lot has happened since then, and it wasn't an easy decision to go ahead with the trip. Riding bikes and having fun whilst knowing the atrocities happening across the border felt conflicting.
But Jordan is a safe place to visit, full of warm and inviting people, many of who rely on tourism for their livelihood. It's these people that I met last year, who helped me through the snow and mud and bike fails, that now need our support.
Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea are bucket list material, and you don't necessarily need to arrive by bike!

Wrapping up our Jordan trip, and it's hard to put into words.
Our last two days of riding saw us head to the iconic Wadi Rum desert.
Early morning shadows and glorious light coated the landscapes in golds and reds, as we zoomed along mud flats, and slid and pushed and followed camel tracks through the sand.
This trip has always been about more than the riding, and it's the off the bike moments we're already reminiscing about.
Hopping aboard a jeep and into the endless Wadi, clambering on top of impossible rock butes, watching an endless sunset soundtracked to laughter and then a shared silence of the significance of the moment.
We all knew the tarmac was coming, and with it, the beginning of the end of our trip.
It was bittersweet to push through our final stretch of sand, and share the last 13km of riding as a train of 16 riders, with shoes full of sand and tan lines that will take months to shift.
A trip end sealed with a jump in the Red Sea, and a final sunset together, and one none of us will forget in a hurry.
With deep gratitude to this whole gang for bringing their whole selves, and to our honorary sister .mai and for helping turn this dream into a reality.

Jordan continues to amaze us with its challenging and beautiful trails, the endless landscapes and incredible hospitality.
Day three we rode with the dawn, heading to the iconic site of Petra, one of the 7 Wonders of the World.
We hiked through it's back door, winding through canyons to the 2000 year old ruins, hand carved into stone.
Temperatures are rising as we drop towards the desert, and we're grateful for our guides Furat and Anton who appear in the sand with cold water and treats.
We've been hosted by more Bedouin families, eating Makloube cooked on the fire for dinner, and drinking endless cups of sweet tea as we share stories with hand gestures and smiles.
Now we head to the desert. Wadi Rum awaits.

Postcards from our first two days on the 🇯🇴
We rolled out of Madaba with nervous excitement, and soon were rolling through the Jordan countryside.
Bound for the Dead Sea, 350m below sea level, we took the scenic route, undulating along gravel roads and meeting our first Berber families in the way.
The temperatures rose as we dropped down, and the taste of salt filled the air. Hitting the tarmac, we zoomed down to the coast of this otherworldly place, ready to cool down and float in its waters and cover ourselves in its healing mud.
We caught the last of the sun as we headed back into the mountains to Dana, and slept to the sound of howling wind.
On day two we woke to the glorious canyon that we'd missed in the dark, and rode along its rim for miles. We shared lunch with a local family, and hid from the midday sun with endless glasses of tea.
Recharged, it was time to head to camp. Glorious riding shared with herds of goats and sheep brought us to camp for sunset. We shared stories by the fire and watched the sun dip in a pink sky from the porches of our tents.
It's hard to believe this has just been two days.
