Gorgeous Summery fresh foods being served all over Devon and Somerset this weekend! A shout out to my super new chef, fabulous team and we had a training night for a new waiter, you’re all amazing and I’m so fortunate to have you work with me this very busy Summer!
On that note please bare with me if I don’t email/ text you back immediately. I am out a lot and on cooking days I don’t get onto my laptop at all.

Pancake Day 🥞

It’s shrove Tuesday! Here is my basic pancake 🥞 recipe. Do save this post for later. (I use the slightly cooled, melted butter to swish round the pan first so the pancakes don’t stick!)

Pancakes are definitely on the menu tonight, my favourite sweet fillings are:

Pure and simple - lemon 🍋 and sugar
Blueberries and Maple syrup
Chocolate, melted with sliced bananas
Berries and Greek yoghurt drizzled with local honey
Have I missed any of your favourites?

So that means Lent begins tomorrow - I have a pretty impressive record of giving up my all time favourite, chocolate, for Lent. But this year I’m not sure I have the willpower- comment below if you think I should or shouldn’t.

I’m just catching up with some social media and realised I posted very little in the run up to Christmas 🤶
Lots of lovely cooking and not enough photos 😳
Anyway I’m back on it now and thought I’d remind you that we do offer the most amazing, home cooked, Sunday lunches. Canapés and fizz to begin with, a choice of two roasts, the local grass fed Devon Beef from is always a favourite, and a yummy pudding or two is just the ticket. Many of our lovely clients have said, the meal was fantastic but to not have to do all the washing up that a roast involves, serve and clear is just the icing on the cake!

🎄This week is a busy one!
🎉 Christmas parties, get togethers, dinners and prep for the big day!

TOP TIP
You can prepare your homemade cranberry sauce now and either freeze or leave it in the fridge, ready to serve!
My recipe is:
500g fresh cranberries
1 satsumas/ Clementine/ orange juiced and zested
4 tablespoons or caster sugar
1 cinnamon stick
- pop the cranberries, cinnamon stick, orange juice and zest in a pan - warm then stir in the sugar and let it simmer on the hob until the cranberries have softened. Stir well and leave to cool- cover and leave in the fridge until Christmas Day ⭐️👩‍🍳
NOTE 📝- you can freeze it and put it in an airtight container. Then take it out the night before - stir well and serve!

It’s that time of the year again! Scurrying around, present buying, food making, wrapping and in my case cheffing lots and lots over the next 2 weeks 👩‍🍳

I love putting the Christmas wreath up before the ‘children’ come home. It’s been a tradition for as long as I moved to Somerset. A move and a new door this year and lots of change, but some things still delight and stay the same! 😊
I’ve included two pictures in this post …

I started foraging and making the second a few days ago and to be honest was quite happy with the result, but then my daughter asked me if I was going to add a bit of festive colour to my wreath?
🤔 Hmm ok!
I had been on a wonderful flower arranging day with and this gave me some inspiration to add a bit of colour and ‘pop’.
So now, my lovely followers, what’s your preference? 🤔

🍌 Before we all go into Christmas overdrive I thought I’d share with you today’s super speedy, nutritionally dense 5 minute lunch (or big breakfast) recipe.
Great to whip up when you are time poor over the next few weeks! ⭐️
🌿Banana and buckwheat pancake with Greek yogurt and pumpkin seeds 🌿
Serves 1
1 whole egg
1 banana- half mashed, half sliced
4 tabs buckwheat flour
1 tabs extra virgin olive oil
2 tabs thick Greek yoghurt (0% or 5% fat)
1 tabs pumpkin seeds
3-5 tabs Milk or plant based alternatives
Add to a bowl
🌱mash half a banana
🌱add the flour, whole egg, milk and give it a good stir until it is well mixed and a thick consistency
🌱 add the extra virgin olive oil to a small frying pan until it’s hot ( the mixture will bubble when it is added)
🌱 turn down the heat and let the thick pancake cook through 2 mins one side, turn and up to another 2 minutes on the other side
🌱 slice the other half of the banana
🌱 load the pancake with yogurt, banana slices and pumpkin seeds - then dice in!!!
Note - you can add maple syrup if you would like it sweeter 💕

⭐️ Shall I tell you a story?
Those of your that know me well are quite aware of my, possibly obsessive, search for the best local ingredients that go into making up as many ‘homemade and seasonal’ offerings from us here at Flora’s food and kitchen.
My Winter special occasion menus feature my yummy chicken liver parfait and last year the addition of quince jelly to the plate most definitely gave it the ‘wow’ factor!
My fabulous friends had gifted me their crop but sadly this year there were none spare.
In true determined fashion I really didn’t want to disappoint my lovely guests! I was on a mission to find some. A chat over a coffee here, a find of a couple of pots while at a church service and a reach out to my Insta family there and voila - offers from two lovely sources. Thank you so, so much. As you can see a few pots of the amazing Quince Jelly are made and ready to be devoured 💕

I have been
picking some from the hedges to add a few to a blackberry and apple crumble. As I was chopping some gorgeous I was thinking about my boy, who is off to tomorrow and wondered if I could slip a crumble into his packing, what do you think?
Their high vitamin C content might help him stave off ‘freshers flu!’

This month the five course menu is A THING 🍀😍🎉
Our guests enjoyed starting with canapés and fizz and finishing off with a savoury course too. The amazing West Country cheeseboard is often a favourite, but when I get to cook a savoury that adds another dimension to your dining experience! 🍀
Keep an eye out for mini Welsh rarebit with cheese and our version of bite sized Croque Monsieur and not forgetting our veggie option, Madame on my menus 😊

Did you spot the heritage striped beetroot? It really ‘zings’with a citrus dressing.
