There have been stories from the previous guests that a woman in white roams the castle grounds. When we first moved here the TV channel was turned over numerous times, while we were watching and once it was turned on in the middle of the night. It's not happened for a long time and the same TV....... Anyone experience any ghostly happenings when they stayed here??

On this day in 1452, Richard III was born, one time owner, resident and king at Sheriff Hutton Castle.

Why did Richard III choose the White Boar as his personal badge?

Possible explanations: The word "boar" or "bore" is an anagram of the first four letters of "Eboracum", the Latin name for York, it represented his courage, strength, and loyalty or was it because of the carvings of boars at the church of St Mary and All Saints in Fotheringhay, where he was born and lived until age 6?

A cultural trip into York this weekend, Monet in York. If you're not a great fan of impressionism don't let it put you off as there's only one piece of his Artworks on show! However it is very reasonably priced, informative on who influenced him and who he influenced and a peaceful oasis in a beautiful building away from the crowds of York.
On show an eclectic mix: The Water Lily Pond by Monet, a giant sculpture of a wolf hound, Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol, Clifford tower by Lowry, Ouse Bridge, York by Leticia Marion Hamilton to name a few. There's also a very picturesque spot overlooking the gardens to sit at the bar, just saying...
