Wedding Tradition: The Veil 👰

The wedding veil is a beautiful garment that just completes the bridal look.

It is traditionally worn over the face as the bride walks down the aisle.

As marriage used to be a way for families to climb the social ladder, it was a worry that the groom would get cold feet if they didn’t find the bride attractive.

Traditionally the bride and groom would not see each other before the ceremony, and the veil was additionally introduced to hold off that first glance until after the vows were exchanged.

The veil adds suspense and anticipation of revealing the beautiful bride.

The role of the bridesmaid…

More often than not I hear about tricky bridesmaids.

Being asked to be a bridesmaid is a testament to your friendship with the bride.

The bride VALUES you as a person and wants you to share their special day with them.

It’s a stressful time for the couple and it’s the role of the bridesmaid (and groomsmen I might add) to support the couple getting wed.

This could be a listening ear, being proactive, bringing positivity and being an extra pair of hands when they need it.

However it should be recognised by couples that being a bridesmaid does come with its challenges.

Money, time and dynamics can inhibit their ability to be the support you need.

So what can you do as a couple? Consider your expectations and ask yourself if they are reasonable.

Figure out if the bridesmaids/groomsmen are adding to your stress, or are they helping?

Have a conversation with them about what’s bothering you both and discuss whether the role is for them.

If it’s not for them, it doesn’t mean they are less of a friend, but it does help to prevent damaging your friendship in the long term 🌟

Someone said to me the other day …

“I don’t know how you do this wedding planning full time, it’s giving me a headache!”

Wedding planning does take up a lot of time, and a lot of thought needs to go into it.

A wedding is not the same as organising a 30th birthday party meal.

There are more things to consider and more riding on the day being perfect👌

Just like anything you do, perfection comes with time and experience.

Your first go at something is never perfect, and you should give yourself credit and realisation when organising such an event.

Recognise that it will be difficult and time consuming, but also recognise when you need to ask for help.

I offer different planning services to help you along your journey.

While full plan support is a staple service, my ‘consult & manage’ service is becoming increasingly popular.

This service is for those who are happy to do the planning but need support and guidance along the way.

We have regular virtual catch ups throughout the planning process and I share with you helpful tips and advice along with my useful wedding planning tools to help you along the way.

Although a wedding planner doesn’t offer anything tangible, we do offer peace of mind and that is priceless ❤️

Cute!

20 or so years ago my friend Iva's grandmother lost her diamond engagement ring while farming/gardening on her family's land near Armena (Camrose), Alberta, Canada. After many tears and hours of searching, she never did find the ring. In the end, she used her own hard earned money to replace the ring and never told her Husband!
Iva recently built a house on a portion of this family farm land. This garden has been feeding the family for years, but this year it had a special gift for them.
Guess what happened when Iva's family went to harvest some of the garden last night?!? 😳
Grandma's secrets are safe with mother earth no more!
The "carrot ring" has been returned to Iva's Grandma as of this morning (Aug 15, 2017) she is very happy to have the original ring her late husband proposed to her with."

💵 Money Dance 💵

I had great joy coordinating D & A’s money dance last year. 🥰

It’s not a tradition we typically see in the UK but it’s one that is celebrated in many other cultures and can bring a lot of fun to the evening celebrations.

During the money dance guests gift money to be able to dance with the couple, or shower them with notes to help them along their way as a new married couple.

There are variations across cultures on how the money dance is performed. At D & A’s wedding, guests pinned the money to their dress and suit while they had the opportunity to dance together. 🥰

Slightly different to my usual attire…

We had the most incredible weekend in Devon. I didn’t have a connection to Devon - the venue took us there but I definitely have a connection to it now. Every single person involved made the weekend so special.

I would use all of the suppliers again. Thank you all for understanding my intermittent comms (because I’m in Antarctica for a few months), fitting in the food tasting a few weeks before, having calls with me while I’m travelling and being flexible around my hectic life!

We really wanted a chilled, fun wedding and that’s exactly how it felt.

You have all been amazing. Thank you ❤️

‘I don’t know how you do it!’

The most popular statement I hear from friends, family, guests and couples after (and during!) a wedding or special occasion.

A stark contrast to the unsaid words of ‘you’re just a party planner, anyone can do that’ that famously ring in my head when ever I get asked about what I do.

Because it’s true. Any one can do it, But can ‘anyone’ do it well?

It’s not until you experience planning an occasion yourself that you realise how much goes into planning and coordinating such a momentous day.

“I wish I didn’t book my wedding coordinator” - said no one ever…

I can’t stress enough how important it is to have a coordinator for your wedding.

Most venues provide one, but if you are looking to book a dry hire venue, or a marquee then just consider who will be in charge for your wedding day?

Each individual supplier will focus on their service, but a lot of what they offer can be impacted by other suppliers.

Having one person to oversee everything and share your vision will help to ensure you have the day you’ve always dreamt of 💭

Unless you’ve organised a wedding before it’s very hard to see how much time and effort goes into planning the perfect day.

Get your winter wedding outfits just right ❄️

Winter weddings are not only a great way to save money, but they also offer the opportunity for beautiful, frosted wedding photos.

Something that many couples find tricky about planning a winter wedding is the outfits.

Spring and summer are the most popular seasons for weddings, with August being the busiest month to get married, which means the majority of gowns and suits are designed for warm weather.

With winter weddings, the outfits need to be warm enough for chilly temperatures, but not so warm that you’ll be uncomfortable in the cosy, heated indoors of your venue.

PLI and PAT you ask 🤔

Now and then, I come across some resistance when it comes to requesting PLI and PAT and I feel it’s something I want to explain to couples and suppliers who have not come across this before.

PLI stands for Public Liability Insurance, whereas PAT is the test to ensure your electrical equipment is in safe working order.

Firstly I want to say that it is NOT something us wedding planners and venue managers want to spend time collating. It’s an absolute pain BUT there is a reason why we do it. 🤍

Usually the main reason is because the venue requires suppliers to have it to ensure their own insurance covers them. This predominantly is required by listed buildings.

It also ensures an extra level of due diligence. Accidents can happen! And having the right insurance cover can help protect you against certain claims.

I have many examples when it could, and has been required and it does surprise me when some do not have it. 😬

That also goes for couples taking out insurance. Sometimes weddings cost more than a house deposit. You ensure you have house insurance so it would be wise to make sure you have the correct cover for your wedding too! 🥰

I totally get you, it is mudane and annoying to organise but it is important to have. Just because nothing has happened thus far, doesn’t mean something won’t happen.

Wedding planners are on your side. 😃 Alongside planning and coordinating your day, looking out for potential risks, issues and problems before they happen is what we are there for 🤍
