Beach School Explorers If we teach our children to love the ocean, they will want to look after it in the future! I grew up by the seaside and love the ocean.

I'm Lisa and I run Beach School Explorers in the school holidays and sometimes at the weekends. I am an all year round open water swimmer and a Mental Health Swim Host. I have been an Ofsted Registered Childminder for 13 years and looked after over 200 children. I love getting children outside and exploring nature and beach school is an excellent opportunity to teach the children about our Ocean, how to respect it so that they will learn to love it and protect it in the future.

Important safety advice for the beach!

HM Coastguard Southend were tasked at 17.30 yesterday to a missing 8 year old child reported by their parents near the water fountains at Marine Parade.

Coastguard Officers worked with Essex Police in creating search plans to help locate the child. A NPAS helicopter was requested and after a search of the seafront reports came in that a child had been reported looking lost by west slip Shoebury beach spotted by a Pier and Foreshore officer. The child matched the description of the MISPER and Essex Police made their way to Shoebury to pick up the child and reunite with their parents back at Marine Parade.

Whilst this search was going on another 6 year old child was also reported missing and a further search was initiated leveraging Essex Police, townlink CCTV, RNLI Southend Lifeboat and Coastguard Officers. The child was then eventually found and reunited back safely with their parents.

Please ask parents visiting our City;

1. Take a selfie of your family when arriving at the beach, as this can be used by search teams if your child goes missing

2. Agree a safe place to reunite if any of your family wonders off and goes missing

3. You can order wrist bands online to place on your child if visiting somewhere new, having a phone number of the parent written on them will quickly help reunite a missing child.

4. Check if Pier and Foreshore at the Pier entrance reception have wrist bands to hand out

Above all look out for each other and your loved ones, especially children when on the beach near water.

Please share our safety advice, please share across communities outside of our local areas for the many visitors that visit from outside the City of Southend.

Let’s work together and look out for each other!

Most of all, if you should you see anyone in trouble on or near the coast, don’t hesitate to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard!

Happy Shark Awareness Day 🦈

Happy Shark Awareness Day 2024! 🦈

Each year, on July 14th we celebrate one of our ocean's most fascinating creatures, sharks.

Our Top 5 Fintastic Facts:
🔹The earliest sharks date were around millions of years before the dinosaurs
🔹There are more than 500 species
🔹Sharks never stop generating new teeth
🔹They can can adopt some very unique – and clever – ways of hunting
🔹Some species have the ability to venture into freshwater systems not just the sea!

Sadly, many species are at risk. Top threats include overfishing, climate change and plastic pollution.
