It was so lovely to be creating flowers again for yesterday’s shoot of the most gorgeous home. Even though it’s been only a few weeks that my official flower season ended I miss the creativity of putting colours together and styling with flowers that my little business brings me during the flower filled months.

Flowers, whilst not necessarily the focal point, often play an important role in completing a styled shoot. Please drop me a DM or email if you have an upcoming project you’d like flowers for.

I’ve just planted out the first batch of ranunculus that have really good root systems after just a few weeks. These have gone in the polytunnel where they should put on some good growth over the next few weeks and hopefully be flowering by April.

I’m excited to let you know about the lovely wreath workshops I’m holding in December at some fabulous local venues.

I’ll be back at the gorgeous Fison Barn at The Earth Trust on the evening of Tuesday 3 December. Tickets will be available to purchase via The Earth Trust very soon.

I’m also hosting again at the Five Little Pigs restaurant where they’ll be putting on a delicious seasonal feast after the workshop. Tickets will be sold via The Five Little Pigs.

I’m also excited to be holding 2 workshops at The Bear, North Moreton this year. The first is on the evening of the 5th where you will get to enjoy a glass of fizz or mulled wine with some charcuterie boards and they’re also offering 20% off food purchased that evening. £65 pp

I am also holding a morning workshop at The Bear in collaboration with where you can stay for a delicious 2 course lunch after the workshop. This workshop is £60 pp or £80 with a 2 course lunch. To book a place on this workshop you can contact me or email [email protected]. If you don’t know Nix of Nixercise she runs the most brilliant outdoor classes at the Wittenham clumps and The Blue Tin, Ipsden plus a couple of indoor classes. I do her runfit class on Monday morning at the clumps and it’s a great way to start the week come rain or shine.

If you’d like more info on any of these workshops or to book a space please get in touch via DM or email [email protected]

If you can’t make any of the above dates and would like to get a group together I can host upto 8 people in my studio. Please contact me for further details.

Polytunnel update

Yesterday I cleared the polytunnel in preparation for planting it with ranunculus & anemones and some hardy annuals. It had become rather overgrown with weeds and I’d left some triffid like ammi majus in there to collect seed from, along with the dried out sweet pea vines. There are a few chrysanthemum growing in there that are yet to flower and a few zinnias too.

I’ll add a layer of compost to help retain moisture over winter and feed the soil.

Last week I soaked my anemone & ranunculus corms and put them in compost with a covering of vermiculite to presprout before I plant them out. Check out picture 2 & 3 to see how quickly they’re sprouting.

I will be doing another batch of ranunculus in a week or so and more in early spring so I have a long succession of these beauties to look forward to next year.

I think I’ve just picked the last of my flowers for the 2024 season. While the dahlias survived the frost all this rain is just making them so battered it’s time to call time sadly.

Thank you so much for all your orders of bouquets, buckets of flowers, funeral flowers and not to mention all the fabulous weddings I’ve flowered this year. I’ve loved them all and
I can’t wait to do it all again next year.

If you’re planning a wedding next year and are thinking about your flowers now is the time to get in touch as I’m planning what I grow for next year. Lots of lovely seeds sown already so let’s hope Mother Nature is kind to us this winter and my seedlings survive whatever she throws at us.

If you wonder what a flower grower gets up to over winter stay tuned as I’ll be posting updates on putting the beds to bed, potting on seedlings, planting out ranunculus and anemones and tulip planting over the next few weeks.

Dried dahlias : part 2

Here are some dried dahlias that have been drying for the past few weeks.

Dahlias for drying.

I’ve cut all the flowers off the dahlias just in case we get a frost and these will now be hung to dry and used in wreaths.

Hang them upside down somewhere dry & airy and they dry beautifully.

I fear this may be the last week for my subscription flowers. Whilst I should be more concerned with the hurricane winds that are forecast by the bbc (I know they’re have a glitch) but the reality is that we are very likely to have a frost tonight so that’ll probably put an end to the dahlias.

If you’d like a regular supply of our seasonal & local flowers next year then please get in touch. Lots of options as to how regularly you’d like them. One of our gift vouchers to a flower subscription makes a gorgeous and thoughtful gift.

This is a message I’ve just received from one of my subscription customers:

“Thanks so much for the beautiful flowers over the last year, I’ve loved them and they’ve brought so many smiles over tough times with my baby and transitioning to going back to work!”

Sending strength to those that have been hit by the devastating hurricane Milton.

Yay it the weekend.

Thanks for keeping me busy cutting flowers this week. All your orders are much appreciated and I love your reactions when you know that the flowers I’m delivering are grown by me and cut to order.

Love this shot of Lou’s gorgeous bridesmaids with their bouquets.

Their bouquets were smaller versions of Lou’s bouquet with complimentary flowers and colours, all with a little touch of blue.

Lou was so relaxed in her choice of flowers and colours and just wanted seasonal and colourful and left the choice to me. That gave me free rein to pick the best of the cutting beds and all flowers were picked within 48 hrs of the wedding and travelled less than 10 miles to both the church and the reception.

If you’re looking for seasonal and locally grown flowers for your wedding I’d love to hear from you.
