Gently stroking your seedlings makes them stronger as it triggers vibration sensors and sets them up for life outside as it mimics the wind and any passing animals. Cracker the cat is a regular visitor in the greenhouse and polytunnel when I’m working in there so I’m hoping my seedlings will be super strong!

TOP TIPS
Day 18 @businessofflowers #flowerfarnerama
What are your top tips for those using your flowers in 2022?
Firstly to enjoy and embrace the seasons and the flowers that bloom at certain times of the year and buy British flowers and ideally my locally grown ones.
All my flowers are picked to order fresh from the cutting garden so usually reach your homes or event within 24 hours of being cut. They are cut into water in the cool of the day and conditioned for a minimum of 4 hours so they get a good drink.
My top tips to keeping your flowers fresh are:
* Cut the ends of the stems if your flowers are not already arranged.
* Place the flowers into fresh water in a clean vessel and have a play with the different vases, bowls & jugs you put them in.
*Keep your flowers as cool as possible and away from direct sunlight
*Change the water every other day to keep the flowers at their best
*My flowers are not treated with chemicals and some flower varieties like sweetpeas don’t have a long vase life but their scent far outweighs this.
* Remove any stem that is past it’s best so you enjoy the others looking fresh for longer.
*Enjoy the gorgeous scent of your flowers.
*Don’t just buy flowers for friends or loved ones, treat yourself to some beautiful locally grown flowers too!

Day 8 Who keeps you company
Listen closely and you’ll hear the birds chattering away. They keep it up all day long here and I love it. Our neighbours have ducks that chatter away too. After a houseful of noisy children I soak up the natural noise of nature and stillness it brings. The rooks get noisier and noisier throughout the year but I’ve learnt to tune out to them! I’ll sometimes listen to a podcast like @girlflowerpodcast who chat to some truly inspiring guests. Our spaniel Wilf used never to hang around with me like Woody our other spaniel did, but today I’ve been in the greenhouse and clearing beds and he’s been by side so I’m hoping he will keep me company too this season. #workingcompanions
