🖤 Repurpose your wedding items! 🖤

One of my top tips I always tell couples is wherever possible repurpose your decor and wedding flowers - especially those used for your wedding ceremony.

Realistically, you are only in your ceremony for 30-40 minutes, so try to think of ways you can reuse items in other areas. Ceremony backdrops look great behind a sweetheart or top table to give a focal point, and any smaller items such as candles or lanterns lining the aisle, can be moved into your wedding breakfast room to give it that extra sparkle 🤩

Take a look at this beautiful broken arch I created for Silvia & David's jeweltone wedding back in May. Perfect as a backdrop for their ceremony and also their sweetheart table 😍

🖤 Hands up if you're having YOUR wedding day, YOUR way?!! 🖤

Seriously I've been where you are, as soon as you announce you're engaged, EVERYBODY has an opinion on what you should and shouldn't be doing! And they really do like to tell you too! SOOOO frustrating!!

Everybody is different and your wedding should reflect who YOU are. You can't please everyone, and neither should you try. Other people won't regret what you do on your wedding day, however many comments they make, BUT YOU WILL if you don't have the wedding day you want to have...

It's your wedding day, do whatever the hell you want! 🤘

As much as I love a dark and moody colour palette, would you be surprised when I say I love bright colours too?! Especially when they pop like these in this bouquet. With a few cheeky extras such as skulls and chains, it's perfect for any couple wanting a bright colour scheme combined with a Rock/Gothic vibe 💀🤘

🖤 Flowers - fresh or silk? 🖤

A lot of couples come to me and are unsure between fresh and faux flowers. It's a common thought that silk flowers are the cheaper option, but for stems which look realistic and good quality, surprisingly they are often more expensive than fresh!

So which to choose? Here's a few tips...

• Think of the time of year you are getting married. If you are looking at flowers which aren't in season for your wedding date, fresh will end up being more costly and may not be of good quality. Either choose flowers which are in season or have silk/dried

• Want to keep your bouquet after your wedding day? Then consider preserving your fresh bouquet or choosing silk/dried to keep

• How many floral arrangements you need. Did you know that to buy fresh flowers, you have to buy them in bunches of 10/25 or even 50 stems?! Unfortunately, stems can not be bought individually, so for small flower orders, flowers can sadly end up being wasted but still need to be paid for. If you are only requiring a few items, this is when silk or dried would be the better option

• And lastly - price. As previously mentioned, generally fresh are more cost effective than silk if flowers are chosen which are in season. To me - you just can't beat the smell of fresh flowers!

🖤 Midsommar wedding 🖤

With the weather being as gorgeous as it is, is the perfect backdrop for a 'Midsommar wedding'. I loved creating this tablescape with moss, wooden t-lights, antlers and lots of foliage to get that 'back to nature' vibe. A soft colour palette was used for the flowers, next to my deer skull centrepiece. Such a dreamy setup don't you think 😍

🖤 Rock themed wedding 🖤

As the temperatures are getting hotter this week, I thought I'd share a flashback of our hot pink wedding shoot! With its ROCK theme, the colours just popped against the black making for a colourful and playful wedding vibe. I just loved how everything came together with a stunning pink & black dress, an awesome black cake with chocolate skulls, bold stationery and in your face florals. For the styling different materials for the runners created texture, vinyls were hung over the table, and centrepieces and stands were made out of metal to give a rock vibe. And what ROCK wedding is complete without lots of skulls?!

🖤 Want your wedding flowers to be a little bit different? 🖤

Just LOVED creating this bouquet and buttonholes for Chelsey's & Stefans Star Wars themed wedding last month. Using a beautiful colour palette of purples, blue and black, I made a fresh flower bouquet held in a lightsabre holder. There were also a few cheeky skulls in there too! For Stefan and his groomsmen, I added different Starwars lego figures to their buttonholes, which made for a perfect keepsake after the day

🖤 International Steampunk Day 🖤

I absolutely love the quirky style of Steampunk and with today being it felt only right to share pictures of our Steampunk styled shoot!

Everything from the jewellery, the elaborate dress to even the cake showcased this eclectic and theatrical style. For the styling I used industrial details such as copper pipe candlesticks and a backdrop of 'hanging cogs', mixed with metallic tones and a rich colour palette of black, red and copper, to create a sophisticated look & feel. Mixed with the bold florals and stationery, it all came together beautifully!

🖤 Wedding themes - it's all about the detail 🖤

For me, styling a wedding is more than just laying out tableclothes and dressing chairs, it's creating a day that is elegant whilst still working to your wedding theme. Themed weddings have always had a bit of a bad rep that they look 'tacky' and 'cheap', but a themed wedding can look every bit as classy as a 'traditional' wedding day, and it's all down to the details...

This Galaxy inspired place setting used different textures and materials to represent the theme. The sparkle of the charger plate imitiated the night sky, whilst the texture of the plates made me think of the moon. Add in sparking gold cutlery and the deep colours of the galaxy with the stationery and place name, and the look just oozed the 'Galaxy' theme

🖤 Happy National Florist Day 🖤

Today marks , where florists are celebrating the power of flowers! 🌹🌻

Even though I also work with silk & dried, I don't think anything beats the beauty of fresh flowers. Everything from the smell, the texture to the gorgeous colours and varieties available - I just LOVE them! There are just SO many unique & beautiful flowers out there!

I'm not a traditional wedding florist favouring a more darker and moodier vibe, but hey! I do love a bit of colour too! Especially those beautiful jeweltones 😍

🖤 1920s dark wedding vibes 🖤

I'm SO happy to say that our American Horror Story 'Hotel' shoot has just been featured over on tildeath_altweddingcol 🤩

I've always loved the elegance of the 1920s, and mixing up the styling & stationery with moody gothic detailing was so much fun! I wanted the look to feel sophisticated, so I used velvet drapery & pearls to give a luxurious feel, but added geometric cages holding skulls for a gothic twist to the backdrop. Using a moody colour palette for the florals, alongside black feathers completed the look for the table, alongside poison bottle bud vases and more skulls! Because you can never have enough, right?! 💀

🖤 American Horror Story themed wedding 💀😍 🖤

I've been so busy with my wedding bookings for this year and lots of new enquiries that I've hardley shared any of the photos from our American Horror Story shoot last month! So here's a sneaky peek before it gets featured over on wedding blog! 🤩

Based on the series 'Hotel' (which was also my favourite season of the show!) it was amazing to style this shoot in a gothic art deco vibe. Using a mix of classic gothic elements such as skulls & poison bottles alongside 1920s detailing of beads, geometric shapes, and feathers, it came together perfectly. I used a rich colour palette for the decor flowers and created a gothic art deco design to the stationery - to say I had fun with this one is an understatement!!

🖤 May the 4th be with you! 🖤

Today was my first wedding of the year for Chelsey & Stefan, and it's been a corker! With it's cool double theme of Star Wars & Nightmare before Christmas, I've been SO excited for this day! I've been lucky enough to be the wedding stylist alongside creating the flowers & and stationery, and to say I had fun with this is an understatement! 🤩

For the stationery, a Star Wars vibe was created with lightsabes made into a heart, but also mixed with Nightmare before Christmas and Jack & Sally's silhouette. The table centrepieces were actual Star Wars helmets owned by the couple, which sat in a bed of flowers on black tablecloths. Mixed with my purple velvet runners, the colours just popped! For the flowers, I created a bouquet for the bride in a light saber handle and buttonholes with lego Star Wars figures. And what Star Wars wedding is complete without lightsabres?!! These were used in the ceremony area sitting in stands with flowers, and they just looked so cool!

With a beautifully themed wedding cake and also Stormtroopers who were there to greet the guests, I can't wait to see all the photos from this day!!!

Hello from Foxglove & Black

So who am I? Well i’m Becky and i’m the owner of Foxglove & Black - a Wedding styling, floral design and stationary company based in the West Midlands. After getting married myself in 2019, I realised there seemed to be a bit of a gap for couples who wanted something a little bit different from a ‘normal’ Wedding Day and wanted to showcase their personalities and who they are as a couple. I also had become (just a little bit!) obsessed with beautiful floral arrangements and how creative the wedding industry could be. To be truthful I was hooked! So fast forward 1 year and after enrolling in a great wedding styling course and learning floristry, Foxglove & Black was born! Combining my 15 year’s + experience in Graphic design and my new love of styling and floristry, I am passionate about providing an alternative yet sophisticated wedding styling service. This is aimed at couples who want to do away with tradition and stamp their personality into their big day. From edgy and industrial urban spaces, to characteristic and charming rustic venues, Foxglove & Black specialises in blank canvas wedding styling. With a strong emphasis on beautiful and inspiring florals, I focus on the small details and the uniqueness of you in mind to create your perfect day.
