OYD Mcr are thrilled to present the second in a series of events, bringing the ‘music for wellbeing’ ethos to the live stage.
Set to be an afternoon of incredible live performances featuring three amazing artists. Kayess, Ewan Sim and Nico Harmony will all take to the stage, alongside some great tunes to soundtrack your Sunday.

Hosted at Band On The Wall our first showcase looks to celebrate some of the amazingly talented women soundtracking our City 🏆
and are all set to join us alongside a stellar DJ set.

‘Superbs Sunday’ is almost here! Join us on Sunday July 7th at Band On The Wall for an evening celebrating incredible live music in the city.
Our first showcase celebrates women in music, in memory of our wonderful friend, singer songwriter Denise Johnson and features 3 amazing female artists, each with their own individual music styles.
The artists:
Laeeqa is bringing her alternative R’n’B style, a soulful tone mixed with garage & electronic music.
Run Remedy, the musical project of Robin Koob is both a moving and melancholic experience you won’t want to miss and Manchester-based singer-songwriter Lusaint’s distinctive music has captured hearts with its melodic blend of soul, jazz and blues influences.
So please join us this Sunday from 7pm in what’s set to be an evening of great live music in one of Mcrs most iconic venues. We can’t wait to see you there 💚

The CIS Tower is a high-rise office building on Miller Street in Manchester, England. Designed for the Co-operative Insurance Society (CIS) by architects Gordon Tait and G. S. Hay, the building was completed in 1962 and rises to 118 m (387 ft) in height. As of 2023, the Grade II listed building is Greater Manchester's 11th-tallest building and the tallest office building in the United Kingdom outside London. The tower remained as built for over 40 years, until maintenance issues on the service tower required an extensive renovation, which included covering its façade in photovoltaic panels.

Political & social upheaval, meant many Italians fled to Manchester, with many settling in Ancoats. One of those immigrants was Antonio Valvona, who lived on Great Ancoats Street and he was credited with inventing the Ice Cream cone 🍦

Manchester was established by the Romans in AD 79. They positioned a fort near a crossing point on the River Medlock, in between two hills that according to them looked like b***s.

The name “Mamucium”, meaning “Breast shaped hills” was then given. Later on, the Normans arrived and established a new settlement.

On your Doorstep Manchester-Iconic eyesores: Heaton Park BT TowerA landmark that signalled to many a tired child on the way home from a day trip, that they were nearly home, the once satellite adorned concrete tower was kind of just taken for granted. What was the purpose of this staple of the north Manchester skyline? During the Cold War, the British government proposed a communications network that (it was hoped) would survive a nuclear attack. Radio stations (including the Heaton Park Tower) would maintain national and international communications before, during and after a nuclear emergency, transmitting microwave radio signals in a network known as Backbone. Spurs feeding into the network were provided at three location; London (BT Tower) , Manchester (Heaton Park Tower) and Birmingham (BT Tower (Birmingham)). Whether the plan for the Backbone network was realized is information protected by the Official Secrets Act 1911 but, during the planning process, HM Government denied in Parliament that there was anything secretive about the tower or its function. Turn back time to when Manchesters Jamie Groovement (aka Agent J) picked the tracks 🙌 Jamie, a regular contributor to Manchester’s evening soundtrack, is always spinning tunes at many venues across the city. Expect jazz, soul, hip hop and more infused with Latin sounds influenced by his Chilean heritage. Jamie is also celebrating his family and heritage by raising money for a new book which had been put together by his mum Isilda and her friends. In the book, Isilda shares her Chilean recipes and food that was important to her community and to children she has looked after over the years. All the money raised go to St Lukes Hospice.
