Well, where to start… sadly our lambing season has not been going so well this year which means unfortunately we are going to be unable to give you the same lambing experience as last year! - I know we are gutted too 😔
You may have seen on social media/news and on this week, a lot of farmers in the UK are experiencing lamb losses and abnormalities with something called virus, it is spread by midges in the autumn, the midges infect the pregnant ewes and then pass the virus on to the growing foetus and can cause abortion of lambs/calves, deformities, abnormalities and can affect the milk production of the mothers.
Sadly we are currently fighting a losing battle and awaiting test results for after receiving a positive blood test result on a ewe who had aborted her lambs early on. We are experiencing heavy lamb losses and it is a very difficult thing to manage. It isn’t something that poses a risk to human health, although at the moment we are unsure whether this is the only cause we are fighting with.
Therefore we decided that it is best not to invite you in to our very depressing lambing shed this year but to invite you to see our happy and healthy live lambs out in the field instead!
This Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th we will have some friendly Wick Street Farm animal faces for you to meet, along with lamb snuggles and our Turkey 🦃 trail! Entry is £2.00 per person. (children under 2’s go free)
Our cafe will be open serving our usual menu and goodies, where children can also do some Easter crafts with a charity donation.
This will be open from 9am-5pm both Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available to purchase here- www.thewickstreetfarmshop.com although pre booking is not essential, and tickets can be purchased on the day, it will guarantee your places as there will be limited availability.
We continue to raise awareness of our working farm and the seasonal farming events that take place in our calendar year. We apologise for any disappointment, but we hope you understand that this is a tough time for us.
