“My favourite thing about The Secret Barn is that it actually has childhood memories for me. I used hang out there as a child as I knew the family that lived on the farm. It’s a very special place. I feel at home there. Growing up nearby, I love the surrounding countryside. It has my heart. I also love the Petal and Feast girls. We always have a laugh!” - Jo Thorne - up on the blog today!

Easter holidays are upon us. We'll be out (ish)of office for the holidays so we may be slower to reply to emails, but we have a flurry of new people to show round the barn. Collected these beauties today, (obviously this is how I always store them in the house)... Have a lovely Easter weekend everyone, hopefully filled with eggs of the chocolate kind.

Help! This year we've decided to have a bash at growing our own Christmas Dinner, now that we're spilling out into the field next door, we have the space. We've all grown veg in various allotments and gardens but we're definitely not up to Monty Don standards, follow along here on instagram - or sign up to our newsletter if you're feeling extra dedicated, and if any of of you fancy doing a Petal and Feast Christmas dinner grow along we'd love you to join in. Tag us in your pictures. First up - Parsnips! We're growing the variety 'Tender & True' from Real Seeds. Please share your top Parsnip growing tips below and we will keep you informed on our progress.

P.S - don't worry we're not eating the chickens

We are manifesting summer with this picture! We have been busy at the field, planting out Sweet Rocket which will become pale wafty clouds, and some hopeful little rows of Cornflowers. They look so small and vulnerable- it's always hard to believe they grown as tall as they do. We've also sewn a few seeds - some snapdragons are happily hiding in the poly tunnel. There are lots (and lots) of seeds waiting in the wings for slightly longer, warmer days. We are hoping for an even bigger and better year in the field, with more growing space than ever before. if you would like DIY buckets of our sustainable, locally grown, flowers for your wedding, or wholesale orders for any of your flowery needs - email us! We always love to chat flowers.

With the orchard for an outdoor ceremony under the old apple trees, a lawn for day time canapé-ing and night time toasting of marshmallows over the fire pit, a meadow for camping, the occasional escapee sheep, swooping swallows and bats that come out at dusk - The outdoor space around The Secret Barn provides the quintessential Sussex idyll, and plenty of space to celebrate and make memories. Sounds perfect? Get in touch to chat.photo:

Otty Aubergines! This salad comes to almost every wedding, and the dish any Petal and Feaster will bring to your barbeque. Slow roasted delicious aubergines, dollops of garlicky saffron yoghurt, fresh basil, pomegranate seeds and toasted pine nuts. Delicious. We can’t wait to be back to roasting a billion aubergines in the kitchen again.

We can't wait for spring and getting out our snips for this year's wedding flowers. Maddy and Hugo went for a flowery day with flowers above the bar, chandeliers hanging from the beams, a arch full of roses and ammi and frothy flowers in soft pinks, whites and green in the Ceremony Barn. We love making BIG flower installations- the flowers hanging over the bar really bring people face to face with all the foliage and happy flowery goodness, peering through the blooms to get their drinks and dinner!

This year we are opening up a few dates for our Off Site Bespoke Flower Service. These dates will be really limited - just a few a year. More information on those over the coming weeks but if you'd like some wild rambling Petal and Feast flower installations at your wedding do let us know.

Our beautiful Secret Barn, tucked in at the foot of the South Downs, is on a 'real' working farm. An authentic, rustic hideaway, that's been the back drop to some gorgeous laid back weddings. With original features, beans strung with fairy lights and birds that fly in and out in the Spring we love it all the more for its cracks and creaks, and hope you do too. Paired with our fabulous flowers (all grown in the field next door) and our homemade feasts, you are able to create your own unique day to remember, all with the help of the Petal and Feast team. We only take a very limited number of bookings each year to preserve this stunning location (and keep it a bit of a secret), we are now booking in the last few 2025 Weddings and are starting on 2026!

If you'd like to find out more about hosting your Big Day at The Secret Barn do get in touch. we'd love to hear from you!

January is almost at an end and the festive days of tucking into endless cheese platters and Christmas cake for breakfast feels like ages ago. So we are reminiscing about one of our favourite desserts last summer, Amber's favourite- Eton Mess. Great big dollops of cream, homemade meringue and summer berries, readily dished out by one of the gang to the eager masses. Everyone always finds room for pudding. Hands up who wants some!?

Tomorrow we are off to West Dean to a talk with Mr Mulch himself, Charles Dowding, on No Dig Gardening. We have the book and after a brief dalance with a rotavator have used the 'no dig' method for the flower field, but nothing beats some in person chat. We are so looking forward to it, note books at the ready!

Winter is for mulching, pulling out spent annuals and weeds, pruning and putting to bed at the Flower Field. There are still scabious and a few roses soldiering on amazingly and we have some little seedlings we need to get through til spring. Next year we are expanding the flower field so theres lots of planning and prepping going on for that - better order another truck load of compost.

"Where to begin? Thank you so much for allowing us to have the best day ever. It was better that we ever imagined it would have been. Delicious food, STUNNING flowers, great service and all round wonderfulness. We are still walking around on cloud nine with huge smiles on our faces! Thank you again."Ellie and Charlie were our first wedding of the year, back in April, a beautiful day to kick of the season. While we’re busy preparing for our upcoming Christmas wreath workshops, we’re also looking forward to New year and planning for our big spring workshop next year - we’ll be teaching guests how to make living wreaths utilising spring flowers, sprouting spring bulbs and foliage, in our beautiful barn. Taking place before Easter, we hope this will be a perfect way to celebrate the new season, decorate for Easter and make it a gorgeous gift idea to purchase for Christmas or even (dare we say it - we know it’s early) Mother’s Day too. The workshop will take place on Saturday 23rd March and includes a delicious vegetarian lunch and all you need to make your Living Spring Wreath.

Book for you or your lucky person and cross them off your Christmas List.

Ginny & David loved the idea of our locally grown flowers, and opted for the Best of the Field. They had beautiful bouquets, flower crowns, hair flowers for Ginny, floral chandeliers and flowers on the tables in our vintage stem vases and bottles. Ginny had some lace from her mum’s wedding dress to be used with her bouquet. Late summer blooms included; Dahlias (of course), wafty Cosmos, Cornflowers, some deliciously dark Scabious, creamy pale yellow Calendula and Zinnias. There was a single red Poppy left at the field that we snuck into Ginny’s bouquet on the day – to tie in with her (lovely!) Mum’s dress. Long tassels of Amaranthus dangled down from their Chandeliers. Delicious.More about Ginny and David's perfect wedding - and more of lovely photos, over on the blog.
