Tomorrow, as the Nation commemorates the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, you would be welcome to join events in Attleborough being organised by the Royal British Legion.

At 11am there will be a ceremony in Queen's Square then, in the run up to the beacon lighting at 9.15pm, there will be a service starting at 8.30pm again in Queen's Square.

The special D-day commemorative flag, purchased by Much Wenlock Town Council, sits proudly on Much Wenlock Parish Church.

Thanks to the church for putting it up 🇬🇧

See you tomorrow at 8:15 pm at the priory or 8.30 pm at the church if you've served in the Armed Forces.

We have spent the last few months trying to negotiate with the landowner regarding the current location of The Queens Platinum Jubilee Beacon.

Unfortunately despite much effort from ourselves and the various agencies it became clear today that it would not be possible to guarantee the D Day 80 Beacons of Peace event could go ahead as the licence processing time would be so close.

However we are hopeful the event can still go ahead at a new location after discussion with Leicestershire County Council.

As soon as we finalise the details we hope to invite you all to join us, as we join in with a national beacon lighting ceremony - A Beacon of Peace on the 80th Anniversary of DDay.

D-Day Anniversary Beacon Lighting

The 6th of June 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, when Allied forces mounted the largest amphibious invasion the world has ever witnessed. In 1944 Operation Overlord saw over 5,000 ships and landing craft set down more than 130,000 troops on five Normandy beaches in an action that would bring about the liberation of north-west Europe from N**i occupation.

Join us at Velvet Lawn, Berkhamsted, in honouring this milestone by participating in our beacon lighting ceremony. We will mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day by lighting a beacon at 9.15pm on 6th June 2024, symbolizing our remembrance and gratitude.

We are asking villages, towns, cities and organisations of all sizes to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day by lighting a beacon at 9.15pm on 6th June 2024, followed by an event to commemorate one of the most momentous achievements in living memory. Your event could be devoted to raising valuable funds for The Royal Naval Association, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and The Merchant Navy Association.
