Water is a key element for dairy manufacturing, from cow to table. With the bulk of liquid milk made up of water, getting it clean and right is vital for operations. Meet Water Technology Ltd, formed in 1976 by Bernard and Margaret Creedon, one of two exhibitors dealing with the issue of clean water and operations directly.

Since 1968, Dr Bernard Creedon had amassed experience in the field of industrial water treatment. In 1975, Brendan Cronin and Micheal O’Grada founded a detergents and process aids business trading independently. In 1985, both businesses entered into a collaboration agreement, combining to trade jointly under the Water Technology Ltd brand. The synergistic benefits of the combined expertise(s) and operational cost-efficiency, has allowed it to develop and continue to grow exponentially ever since then.

What will you see on the show floor at Dairy Industries Expo?

The Urschel Laboratories, Inc. developed MicroAdjustable Shred Head (SH-14) delivers twice the capacity of the standard head. The SH-14 features 14 cutting stations versus the standard 8-station cutting head. For use on the Urschel Model CC series, switching over to the SH-14 from the standard 8 requires no special adapters. This development allows processors the ability to increase productivity without the expense of purchasing an additional shredder.

Back in May, we attended the first product showcase from Sycamore Process Engineering Ltd. We reported on the unveiling of a new skid mounted whey pasteuriser and membrane filtration system.

Sycamores’ design engineering manager Joe Matthews gave a presentation on pasteurisation. He noted that it was important to do a full product safety inspection, integrating cleaning-in-place processes in the overall design of a pasteuriser – how long a product can be run, how much fouling is present. “It’s about controlling the whole process, not just starting it,” he said. A process also has to be EHEDG compliant, but it also needs to be practical. “The cost needs to be considered,” he added.

Exhibitor spotlight: with 30 years of texture analysis expertise, Stable Micro Systems are world leaders in the measurement of texture, volume, powder flow and physical properties.

The company was started in 1989 by a check-weigher manufacturer, a draughtsman from a Formula 1 consultancy, and an expert in electronics design. From humble beginnings in a stable, the founders progressed to Nissen huts and took on software, sales, and assembly staff to get the business going. By 1995, they had established a strong distributor network across the globe and had outgrown the space they had.
