GOOD NEWS!

I'm so pleased the assignment based assessment I submitted for the RSPH LEVEL 3 AWARD IN NUTRITION FOR HEALTH has been accepted!

Previously, it was assessed by examination only. The advantages of assignment based assessment for adult learners are:

* you develop your competencies using a problem solving approach, rather than only learning for a multiple choice exam

* flexibility - we can incorporate formative assessment. I have used this successfully to satisfy external verifiers of a learner's competency where they are not confident in their literacy skills or have dyslexia

* you will have your course assignment to use as a valuable reference tool in your role.

There are 3 places left on the course starting 5th January 2021.

You can see a course spec on the RSPH web site and find our registered centre.

DM me to enrol!

Did you know we are RSPH accredited? (Royal Society for Public Health)

This means you can trust our courses to deliver what you need, want and give you something you can implement! We have really focused on the way we asses our delegates, taking away examinations and replacing with fantastic workbooks and assessments.

This helps a wide range of learners access our courses even if 'academia' isn't your thing.

If you love experiential learning and want to advance yourself or your team- DM now!

I know its a Saturday, but I would love some input from you especially if you work in the food industry!!

I have worked in the industry including in and around the NHS. You hear such mixed reviews on peoples views of training, classroom or online. Some love it, some hate it, some have never had it. I am obsessed with improving the perception of training and would love if you could answer a couple of questions for me?

What do you love the most about nutrition training you have had?

And what are you missing?

Don't forget to tell me the sector you work in too!

Thanks for the feedback.

Do you work in the care industry, catering, hospitality or leisure?

When did you last have some training and development?

I am a massive advocate for team and self development. You will find many more benefits than those outlined in course descriptions. For instance, you may have a light bulb moment, learn something from another delegate, gain something from the trainers experience or just feel refreshed, re motivated and ready to go!

Why not share a training win with us?

Sometimes in business you have to be brave! Apparently! So I have been- and I went for some personal branding photography with a great local photographer (more info coming soon). This is a sneak peak of an image captured on the day.

Whats the bravest thing you have done in your business? (Wondering what else I can push myself to do!)

SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT
Nutritional Care of Older Adults (Available from April)

Amanda Beattie, lead trainer wrote this course content after her experience as an older persons specialist dietitian working in an Intermediate Care Multi Disciplinary Team Setting.

She has good insight in this area of expertise, due to working in various roles (domicillary, care homes and hospitals) as a HCA on agency, and later with NHS professionals in hospitals and on the mental health bank.

This learning experience will cover all aspects of nutritional care and provide attendees with tools for early intervention to enable them to prevent malnutrition, monitor changes and pending input from relevant healthcare professionals.

The course is suitable for those working in domiciliary care or care homes.

The content of the course is being updated at present to be ready in April. It is not currently accredited, but would be similar to a level 2 award or certificate, depending on TQT/ guided learning hours once updated.

Do you work in the food industry?

So often when you are looking for development for your team, or yourself, its all around health and safety etc. Whilst this is key training not much changes year on year and it doesn't really focus on your personal development and future opportunities?

I focus on making sure each individual learns something they can implement straight away and make a real difference.

Drop me a message for more information.

SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT
RSPH Level 2 Award in Identifying and Controlling Food Allergy Risks
Message now for more details!

Increasing numbers of individuals suffer adverse reactions every year from the ingestion of allergens in food. This number could be greatly reduced if more people involved in the production, preparation and serving of food were aware of the risks to people from food allergens and how to control these risks.

This qualification will provide learners with an understanding of why food allergens need to be controlled and strategies for control, such as keeping and making available information about allergen ingredients, reducing cross contamination, improving communication and providing advice to consumers. Unique workbook based assessment approved by RSPH. Here you will demonstrate your competence fully, by making allergens for recipes and gaining a good understanding of the subject, as opposed to a multi choice exam. Your excellent workbook will be a valuable resource for your reference in work.

This qualification is regulated by Ofqual/CCEA and Qualification Wales.

This Friday I want to discuss the benefits/impact of training on your staff.

There are so many perks to upskilling your teams, and not all of them are the obvious/related to the skills they take from the actual session.

FRIDAY FACTS

1- Retention- 93% of staff would stay in a role if the company invested in their development (LinkedIn Workforce learning report 2018).

2- Its costs £3642 for a small care company to recruit 1 new employee! With a turnover of 33% you could be looking at £22000 per year! So it makes more sense to retain your staff. (stats from skills for care research).

3- More costs savings- having knowledgeable staff can prevent any allergy or other diet related issues, saving money and precious time in potential complaints, issues and cases.

4- Teambuilding- a team that trains together increases their team camaraderie- even when the session isn't labelled 'team building'.

5- Performance improvement- as someone feels invested in, their performance at work will increase. They have a higher level of belonging and ownership thanks to that time being devoted to them and their growth.

SATURDAY COURSE SPOTLIGHT!

To give a bit more of an indepth view of each of our courses I will share over the next few weeks! Take a look at the website for more info or give me a shout!

This qualification is suitable for individuals who require an understanding of nutrition and diet and their effect on health.

It is particularly relevant for people working in the health, fitness or catering professions who might have a role in the promotion of healthy eating or the preparation of meals, menus and diets. It would also be a great qualification for assistant practitioners in Nutrition and Dietetics departments (Band 3 or 4) where the DA has not completed a formal qualification in nutrition.

Learners will take a single unit, Principles of Nutrition, but may add additional units at a later date to obtain the RSPH Level 4 Certificate in Nutrition for Institutional Food Services.

This qualification is regulated by Ofqual/CCEA and Qualification Wales.

This qualification is on The Education and Skills Funding Agency list of qualifications approved for funding.

Fact Friday!!!
You know how passionate I am about the value added to employees in a classroom/workshop environment. Well here are some fun Friday Facts to remind you.

1- Ask Questions- they have someone, experienced, meaning they can fact find.
2- Real life examples- are tailored by the trainer to ensure the learning has landed.
3- See learning landing- the trainers can see each delegate and know when they have understood.
4- Cross delegate learning- a great facilitator also brings out the learning from the other delegates and their experiences.
5- Investment- an employee feels invested in, like they are worth the time of a classroom session and this can motivate and retain them!!

What would you add to the list??

Our ethos is to deliver learning in a way that ensures the student demonstrates their competencies
We prefer to assess learners on the basis of how they translate they learn to how they can apply in their area of work. Our workbooks (used for RSPH courses) have been approved by the awarding body as an assessment method, and are designed to ensure each learner meets the learning outcomes by demonstrating their skills in a practical way.

After all, most of our learners will be in hands on roles!

We encourage learning in groups, we mix up the class so we learn a lot from each other!

Experienced Practitioners are More Effective Trainers for Your Sector and we are passionate about our subject!

We will involve our learners in discussions and problem solving. It is only a subject expert and experienced trainer that can facilitate this and make it relevant and meaningful.

We know our stuff!

We have been hired many times due to our experience, and one organisation approached us as a more 'generic' trainer has been used with no effect.

Our learning aids are appropriate, relevant and hands on - meaning you are involved in the learning process.

I read an article on the benefits of face to face training and I just need to share as it is something I am so so passionate about.

Have a read for the 5 advantages of face to face training. People tend to think we don't need it anymore in a world of technology, but this cannot replace the benefits of working face to face with human beings, specifically those that are experienced, knowledgeable and want to engage and share with you- nothing better!!!
