I've a couple of slots for large(Ish) upbeat bands on Saturday 6th of July. It's a new night, and a bit short notice, but I thought I'd see if anyone was free?
Message me for details :)
Extremely excited to announce SOLOS at .leeds - a brand new night featuring SIX solo performers playing from 8 til late.
For our first outing we're very happy to be featuring (in alphabetical order):

Everyone will be playing 30 minutes of their original music + some covers. In case you've not made it to Casa before, it's a very chilled, mostly seated venue. We'll be fairylighting the whole scene, it'll be blissful.
Casa will also be serving small plates from their menu of amazing Latin fusion of Colombian, Venezuelan, Peruvian and Mexican dishes, so come down early and make a night of it.
Tickets are a flat and ridiculous £5 both online and on the door. it's not a huge venue though, so if you're coming DEFINITELY get a ticket in advance as we'd hate to turn you away at the door.
Book via notathing.co.uk or here: https://notathing.co.uk/event/solos-casa-leeds-featuring-elena-maya-eva-kiss-isaac-malibu-katerina-kiu-sair/
Last time we did a shout out for solo performers, we were absolutely swamped. So we're really pleased to be able to make some spaces for some of the amazing solo artists in Leeds. If you'd like to get on the performer shortlist, come down to the show and say hello! :) xx
It was close... But in the end, it's Jazz Beef. Thanks to everyone who voted.
Watch this space for more info.
(I'll try and find a way to do Songs In The Key of Leeds still, just might be next year.)
Which night should I run at HPBC on Friday 8th November 2024?
Very excited to have just taken receipt of this sparkly beauty from a very lovely drummer in Knaresborough... On its way to become the new house kit for :)
It's just a shame I don't know any drummers...
So... It turns out if you put a shout out asking for 4 solo acts, you get DOZENS of enquiries.
It's fair to say that I definitely will have filled the available slots - I just need time to work through the messages, thanks to everyone who got in touch.
I think to be fair, I'm going to pick people I've not previously put on, so sorry to people I already have booked but hopefully you understand.
Also though... Please could people signpost me to nights and promoters that put on mainly solo acts, so I can share a bunch of them? There's obviously an absolute ton of need for spaces of this type, and you think they'd be easy enough nights to run?
I realise I don't really know any cos I don't get out that much apart from my own gigs (kids, work etc...)
Very happy to share the video from Friday night's Album Covers: Abba Gold - it was a very special night, with a house band, some amazing performances, but also just the warmest most welcoming atmosphere I think we've ever had. It was exactly what we are going for with these nights.
Thanks to everyone who came, watched, and performed.
Lots of folk performing at Album Covers: Abba Gold in April 2024, at the Fox and Newt Pub, Leeds.00:00 Dancing Queen05:12 Knowing Me, Knowing You09:06 Take A...

Hello! Here is the video from last Saturday's Risk A Verse: Songs from Your Parents... some brilliant performances, and such a brilliant night.
If you have been thinking about coming down - or performing - the next Risk A Verse is on the super cheery theme 'Songs with a Death In' and it's on Saturday 25th May 2024. We'll have an event page up very soon 😃
Lots of folk performing at Risk A Verse in February 2023, at The Fox and Newt, Leeds, UK.The theme was music you got from your parents.00:00 Dan - Matty Grov...
So you know we built a ticketing system, right? And said that we would hopefully be able to offer it to people to use for their gigs - free of charge, only paying Stripe fees making it cheaper than pretty much anyone else...?
Well just after that got in touch about a lovely event she's running at - a 20 year anniversary (howtf?!) of Amy Winehouse's first album Frank. She'll be performing 'An Ode To Frank' including some absolute modern classics.
She also super kindly agreed to be a guinea pig for the new ticket platform... So there we are, first ticketed event by someone else hosted on nothing.co.uk!
If it all goes smoothly, I'll hopefully be able to offer the same to other people running events soon. In the meantime, head to notathing.co.uk to get tickets now for An Ode To: Frank - and other upcoming events.

Enormous thanks to Kawaiiyasu and Nautilus for two storming sets last night at
Nautilus playing hard and heavy with the fuzzy fusion, followed by Kawaiiyasu with an actually mesmerising set of the most inventive jazz I think I've ever seen. Everyone seemed absolutely at the top of their game, it was a joy to be able to see that happening.
Never has a single sq**rt of Lynx deodorant been so beautifully timed... I really hope the video captures the majesty of that moment.
Thanks to and + + .sukiyaki ... And to for sound skills in an unexpectedly tough setup!

Very happy to say that our next gig at isn't really our gig at all, it's a farewell gig for the amazing
I'm really quite sad to have only heard them for the first time at our last HPBC gig, and then to discover immediately that they are taking a break. They absolutely smashed it at the Breaks night... So we're really happy to be able to help out with their last gig for a while.
It's also fundraising for an excellent good cause - Benji's top surgery... In fact if I wasn't at my own gig right now, I'd be at the other gig taking place tonight at Wharf Chambers for the same cause.
Support on the night will be provided by the incredible .band as well as that I've yet to hear, but I'm looking forward to very much.
Tickets are £7 advance or £8 on the door, link to those in our bio.

An absolutely massive THANK YOU to everyone who watched, played, danced, chatted, drank, helped out, and was generally lovely last night at
Aside from the 6 mild heart attacks I had through the night, for a pretty new format I feel like it went amazingly well. Someone (possibly Plantfood) called it something like 'a festival, in January, in one night' which is kind of how it felt to me... Friendly unpretentious vibes, incredible mix of different music and everyone just getting involved.
If you need evidence of how vibrant and supportive the Leeds music scene is right now, hows this - just as band four (of nine) were starting their set, the kick drum broke... As in the pedal went through the skin. I didn't even know until part way in.
By the fifth band, literally 17.5 minutes later, a new kick drum had arrived and was swapped over in real time. I don't even know who did that, or where it came from, everyone just went 'we need this, let's sort it.' Thanks to whoever it was!
As always we recorded and video'd everything so we hope to have tracks popping up here and on our YouTube across the next week or so... Fingers crossed, I've not checked the video or audio yet. Big thanks to as always for working so hard to give us all incredible sound in hardcore circumstances, and thanks in advance to for the mammoth mixing task ahead (oh, and doing doors all night.)
Love and respect to everyone... Let us know what you thought, whether this type of night is 'a thing', what you'd change and whether we should do another one. I'm going to go sleep for 2 years. Joke... I have school run in 10 minutes. :D
+++ TOMORROW! +++
Put Yourself Out There returns to Hyde Park Book Club tomorrow for a ridiculous idea of a night - hopefully ridiculous in only good ways, right?
We have an awesome line up of performers doing mini-sets of only the higher BPM stuff from their sets, and a few folk doing 'one night only' line-ups and experiments.
In between we'll be playing the big tunes, but you better take it in turns going for drinks because we'll be keeping the swaps

Huge thanks as always to everyone who came down to @selabarleeds on Sunday night to watch two incredible bands absolutely smashing it. First up, very happy to share a track from Maeve Thorpe Quartet's set... like @maevetdrums I'm not going to guess spelling/pronunciation of the track title, so maybe @guguinha_a can help us out? The whole set is now live on the Not a thing. We try and record everything in the best quality we can based on venue/desk - both so bands have their own reference to share, but also because a scene as lively as this one needs to be documented! :) Thanks to @edddie_2003 for quality sound duties on the night, and as always @sympatrlc for speedy and brilliant mixdowns.

Put Yourself Out There is returning to @hydeparkbookclub this November... for another "X" night. We asked one of our favourite Leeds bands @rushbonds - who've been having a mad year so far and killing venues wherever they go - to pick their favourite band to co-headline with... They've picked another storming Leeds band @trunkgram to play alongside (and maybe, just maybe, with...) Rushbonds play an ever more experimental set of soul post-punk... whilst Trunk have been called the "sonic equivalent of throwing an entire decade of music into the blender". We've ended up calling them 90s fuzzy shoegazemo, cos frankly genres are hard. Tickets are £5 - online (with booking fee) or on the door - but you should probably buy an online one sooner rather than later as it might sell out like. Link is via the Linktr.ee in our bio, or the story we're about to share. Doors will open at 7.30, and we'll be playing the freshest new tunes before, between and after, until everyone goes or they make us stop. Taking the stage for Put Yourself Out There in December at @selabarleeds are the awesome Hyowa Project - a jazz group merging intercultural inspirations, classic funk/rock fusion and contemporary jazz music. Supporting on the night are the Maeve Thorpe Quartet, who I can't wait to hear live... they're an ECM inspired group with flowing melodies, complex rhythms and rich chords. Entry is free as always at Sela - doors will be 7pm, and we'll be playing all the freshest (and not at all christmassy) tunes before, during and after. @hyowaproject - Hyokyung Jung - Joe van der Meulen @joe_van_der_meulen - Fergus Leach @fergus_leach_music - Louis Berthoud @louisberthoud Maeve Thorpe Quartet - Maeve Thorpe @maevetdrums - Gustavo Andrade @guguinha_a - Ben Gilbert @wypianostudio - Jose Canha @canhaj
