A question I'm always asked is "what's the difference between a registrar and a celebrant?"

In simple terms - a registrar can do the "legal bit" of the wedding and a celebrant can't.

But there is a lot more that a celebrant CAN do for your wedding service.
I can create a fully personalised service that includes your love story, making vows and promises for your life together, exchanging rings or other tokens and creating memorable moments through rituals that represent your journey together.

You can have readings, music, dance - the only limit is your imagination.

And you can have your service with me anywhere. Your back garden if you're green fingered, the hotel where you had your first weekend away, a favourite pub or meeting place.

I have far more creative flexibility BECAUSE I don't do "the legal bit".

The other week I visited took a trip out to , possibly the prettiest place to get married in Exmouth!

Tucked away down a quiet country lane the Exmouth Country Lodge is found at Prattshayes Farm.

You can have your service in the beautiful vaulted Cob Barn or in the Pagoda in the Orchard garden.

The large, Cow Shed is now a stylish, rustic reception venue. With twinkling lights, glamorous chandeliers and space for a DJ and dancing.

There's accommodation too, so if you're wedding vibe is relaxed countryside glamour this could be the very spot for you.

And you're only a short walk from the beautiful Exmouth Beach.

As an Exmouth girl, I'm biased but Exmouth Country Lodge really is a fab place to have your celebrant led wedding.

Every life is of value, everyone has something worth listening to and every life has a story worth sharing.

It is my very great privilege to use my skill with words and storytelling to capture people's life and love stories and tell them to their friends, families and communities.

The first step for me in writing a funeral is to meet with the person who is organising the funeral. Usually a family member of loved one.

If it's your first time planning a funeral it can be hard to know what to expect.

A funeral meeting usually takes around 2 hours and we can meet at your home or in a neutral space.

I'll spend some time getting to know you and going over the admin details to make sure we all know what's happening when.

We'll talk about the service plan; readings, music, special rituals to include.

The biggest part of the meeting is me listening to your memories of your loved one. A funeral service isn't just a biography from birth to death, it should include memories that make everyone think "yes, that's my person" when they hear them.

So I listen and make copious notes. There may be some tears and hopefully a few smiles too.

After our meeting, I go away and turn your memories into a service that remembers your person in a way that keeps them alive in your hearts.

If you're new around here, I'm Ruth.
A wedding and funeral celebrant living in Exmouth, East Devon and working throughout the South West.

Here's a quick and dirty list of things I love...

My daughter and my mum (and brothers and dad obvs) - I live with mum and Isabelle and they're pretty damn ace.

Plants -we have over 120 houseplants at last count. However I'm no friend of an airplant and manage to kill everyone I've ever had.

Tea - milk no sugar thanks. I've recently started making my own spiced chai for afternoon treats.

People - people are blummin fascinating and I love learning all about you and your love and your life.

Telling stories - stories tell us about our world and connect us to each other. Every life is an epic tale to be told, it just needs the right words and the right storyteller.

Grays Anatomy - nuff said, Christina and Bailey are the best. Change my mind.

The perfect wedding celebrant helps make your wedding unique and perfectly you.
Here are my 5 tips for finding the perfect wedding celebrant to tell your love story on your wedding day

❤️ Make your Must Have list for your perfect wedding. Do you have a theme in mind, do you want to include special people or pets, are there significant rituals you'd like to include?

❤️Create a celebrant long list - fire up Google, ask your friends, research directories to create a long list of possibles in your area.

❤️ Turn the long list into a short list - look through celebrant's websites to get a feel for who they are and if they could be a good fit for you.

❤️ Meet your short list - most celebrants offer a call or Zoom meeting so you can get to know each other before deciding if you want to work together.

❤️ Time to decide - after meeting with your short list you should be closer to making a decision. Review your must-have list to make sure your choice meets it, and don't forget to trust your instinct.

What you don't know is that you will continue to study dance and even though life takes it's twists and turns it is always something that brings you back to who you are.

Though it will take you another 30+ years to learn to do pointe work.
