Ah … today’s Dartmoor ceremony for Josie and Storm was totally joyful with heaps of laughter, audience and couple input… It was just PERFECT in spite of the rain, which just made the barn feel cosier! I wore the dress I wore 5 years ago for Lucy and Joe’s ceremony … both Josie& Storm and Lucy & Joe are creative couples together since teenagers and both great fun. Seemed appropriate, really. Yeah I definitely look a few years older and a bit more décolleté but there ya go! WHAT a kind message from the daughter of the amazing 90-year-old whose Celebration of Life I was privileged to conduct at Penmount Crematorium last week. J’s daughters most definitely did not want a grim, sombre or sendoff for their beloved father. I was tasked to conduct a ceremony which celebrated J’s humour and the amazing life he lived. To prepare, I read his fascinating autobiography and funny words from Spike Milligan. It was wonderful that my words and delivery were so well received! How brilliant also that the family felt confident to book me directly - everyone has that choice. Ah, this has to be one of the most fabulous compliments made in any review. It is part of Shawn and Bob’s lovely longer review, after their renewal of vows on their 20th anniversary. From being a totally active couple running a dive school in Egypt to being housebound pretty much 24/7 after Bob’s stroke, this couple remain devoted to each other - and love to laugh. So, their home-based ceremony was full of irreverence and total fun – and of course unabashed LOVE. What a privilege it was to be invited conduct this happy ceremony and get to know this inspiring duo. Seeing Bob walk across the floor to join his bride was also amazing. There is no category for ‘Celebrant’ on Insta, so this is one of the reasons I now call myself an ‘Artist’ as opposed to a Wedding Planner. I believe that creating and delivering a cracking ceremony depends on getting to know well your clients and capturing the vibe they wish for. It is an art for sure. I’m always excited when prepping for a service, as you can probably see in this mini video. Arriving good and early, I set up all my ceremony gear, including a ceremonial certificate, Handfasting cords or other symbolic elements. I then liaise with the venue, planner and photographer to ensure everything will run according to the choreography plan. After all that, I chill and just soak up the atmosphere, so I’m ready to deliver a cracking ceremony! . Thank goodness I’m not a videographer eh, as my room span leaves much to be desired! I know my place! 😂 Leaving time for all is why I usually only take ONE booking a day… which means I’m also around should you encounter any slight delays (they happen,,,) or need a seamless transition to your confetti, bubbles or photos. Nothing compares to a Celebrant, truly. Please don’t sell your wedding short ! I so appreciate this lovely review, from a fabulous couple - I posted photos of J&S’s amazing @royalcrescent_hotel wedding a few days back. Their joyful unity candle and glass smashing ceremony were all watched by a small number of attending guests in the room and others from the UK nd the USA else via a Zoom call. The constantly-restricting COVID regulations in 2020 meant we had to keep on our toes but we found ways to deal with it all and still have fun!
