Here’s your little Sunday reminder that

there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to planning your wedding. Your wedding doesn't have to be a carbon copy of someone else's. The only thing your wedding should be is unique to you.

I'm not saying go against everything you've ever been told and throw the rule book out altogether. What I am suggesting is that you don't have to do something for the sake of doing it. You don't have to follow tradition or a certain timeline or include details which don't align with who you are just because that's the format everyone else follows.

If you have an idea or want to know if something is possible then mention it to your suppliers. If there's a solution, they will help you to find it.

Take L&S’s wedding! They chose to host their reception in their cow barn and transformed it into a completely unique space like no other.

Napkins

If you're providing your own napkins then make sure to iron and pre-knot or fold these before set up day.

Time goes ridiculously quickly during set up and folding even 50 napkins will take precious time away from more important jobs.

It takes me a whole afternoon/evening to iron and fold 50 napkins and I've basically got a degree in ironing.

What does your gut say?

A gut feeling can be a very powerful thing when it comes to choosing your wedding suppliers and is something which shouldn’t be ignored.

Questions to ask yourselves;
– Do you like the person behind the brand, their values and what their business stands for?
– Can you see yourselves working together from now until your wedding day?
- Do you feel they will take the time to understand you and your brief?
- Can they provide you with the level of support and reassurance you need?

If you’ve got an off feeling about something then maybe they’re just not the right choice for you and that’s ok. Take your time and find a team who truly gets you!

Little shot of me in action at L&S’s wedding back in July.

On your wedding day, you'll find me with my bright pink clipboard (the pink helps me find it when I put it down 🤣) in the background doing whatever is needed to help make sure your day runs smoothly.

I've been known to do anything and everything on a wedding day from clearing plates and washing glasses to pushing cars out of mud and sewing up trousers. Anything to make sure you and your guest have the most amazing day possible!

Thanks, capturing me in action!

Choosing your team…

Choosing the right team for your wedding can feel overwhelming. With so many suppliers to choose from it can be hard to know where to start!

You want a team you can trust! A team that “get’s” your vision and what you’re hoping to achieve. One you won’t have to micromanage or worry about on the day. Suppliers you just bounce off, who you can be honest with and who you know will provide the best service possible.

So, what can you do to make sure your suppliers are the right fit for your day?

1. Check the images on their website and social media are their work – You want to make sure the work you love is their own and has not been taken as ‘inspiration’ from someone else’s portfolio. Check the image credits, have they contributed to that image in some way? If the images are just “inspiration” then you might end up disappointed with the service, they provide.

2. What experience and knowledge do they have? – Do they share snippets of their knowledge and expertise on their website, social media or blog? Do they have testimonials that back up their services and the quality of their work? You want to make sure your suppliers have the right knowledge and expertise for the role you are hiring them to do.

3. What does your gut say? – Do you like them and their brand values? You work closely with your supplier in the run-up to your wedding and on the day itself, so it’s important you feel comfortable around them. You want to surround yourself with a team that takes the time to understand you and your wedding vision. A team you can trust.

Your team of suppliers have a significant impact on your wedding and the experience you and your guests have, so take the time to do your research before you sign those contracts!

Don’t rush!

Rushed decisions normally lead to costly mistakes when it comes to wedding planning.

To avoid making rushed decisions take time to outline your budget, identify your priorities and research suppliers. Don’t feel pressured into making spur of the moment decisions and don’t feel as though you need to include details that don’t align with who you are as a couple.

And finally, please ask questions! You’re not expected to know all the ins and outs of planning a wedding, so if you’re unsure of something just ask.

Inspiration Overwhelm

Is something I know a lot of you are feeling at the moment! Pinterest and Instagram are without doubt two of the biggest causes of this.

Here are some tips to help you declutter your Pinterest board and that folder of images you have saved to your phone!

*Believe me you'll feel so much better once you've had a clear out of all these conflicting ideas*

Tip 1 - Create a new Pinterest board/folder so you have somewhere fresh to save your images/inspiration going forward.

Tip 2 - Only save images and videos which truly mean something to you. Every time you save an image or video, I want you to consider what does this represent? What do I find inspiring about this?

Does it convey my colour palette, the atmosphere I want to create, or does it encapsulate how I want my day to look or feel?

If not, then DON’T save it.

Tip 3 - Don't ask your suppliers to directly replicate something you've seen on Pinterest or Instagram. Trust your suppliers and their process and let them use their creativity to design something which feels personal and individual to you and your day.

By getting really intentional with the content you’re saving you end up with a small selection of images that really inspire you and can be drawn upon for reference when speaking to your suppliers.

Remember, less is always more!

Let’s talk about your wedding style because it's more than just how your wedding looks!

Without a doubt, this is one area of planning I get asked the most questions about. It’s the one which couples tell me stresses them out the most and here’s why I think that is.

Your wedding style is so much more than how your wedding is going to look, your outfits choices, and the way you dress your tables. It’s an extension of you, your personalities, likes, dislikes and experiences you have. So, your style is all about translating these qualities into your wedding to create a sense of cohesion and flow, so every element relates to who you truly are as a couple.

I think this stage in the styling process almost gets overlooked which to some extent probably has something to do with Pinterest and the endless source of imagery couples are constantly being fed. When it comes to identifying your wedding style, you almost need to hit pause and start by asking yourselves these 4 questions.

1. How do you want to feel in the lead up to your wedding and on the day itself?

2. How do you want your wedding to be described?

3. What atmosphere do you want to create?

4. What experience do you want your guests to have?

These questions should help you to recognise any keywords, feelings and emotions which are unique to you as a couple. You can then use these to help communicate your ideas to suppliers and when looking for inspiration going forward.

This is a topic I love to discuss, so I’ll be sharing more thoughts and tips on this very soon! Sign up to my LET’S TALK DETAILS mailing list to find out more (link in my bio)

TOP TIP - to help you get ahead in your planning

GET CLEAR ON WHAT YOUR SUPPLIERS NEED

Make a list of the appointments and payments you have coming up this month. As well as any details your suppliers require from you e.g. menu choices, final guests numbers, seating plan etc.

Don't wait for suppliers to chase you.

Getting clear on what your suppliers need and when they need this by will give you plenty of time to plan and make sure nothing important gets missed or overlooked.

Now I love a slice of cake but doesn’t this just look too pretty to eat?!

Can you believe Folia Cake Design made every single one of these beautifully intricate flowers!

It really does makes the world of difference when you work with suppliers who adore what they do. Who put their love and attention into everything they create. Who listen and understand you, your day and what you hope to achieve. Who cares about the tiny little details.

My little piece of advice is to do your research. Don’t be afraid to ask suppliers questions and get to know them. Make sure you love their work so much so that you just can’t wait to work with them 😊

Isn’t time just flying by at the minute! It’s as if you blink & it’s the start of a new week.

It also seems to be one of the reasons why there is a sense of planning overwhelm in the air & has been a topic of conversation I find myself discussing a lot at the minute.

Planning overwhelm is definitely a thing & it’s definitely not fun!

However, there are some lovely little tricks which can help you to tackle your ever-growing wedding to-do list. Making sure nothing gets missed or overlooked along the way.

1. Get clear on your next steps - make sure you know exactly what your suppliers need from you & when. Then create a list of the suppliers & details you still need to source or confirm & make a note of when you want to achieve this.

By setting clear time frames you help to keep yourselves organised & up to date with what’s next.

2. Over calculate - always try to allow yourselves more time than you need to complete tasks. This way you are less likely to end up in stressful situations where everything feels last minute and rushed.

This is when important details can very easily become overlooked or missed.

3. Set planning goals - decide at the beginning of each month what you want to achieve. It could be that there is a particular supplier you still need to source or a question you need to confirm. Make sure you’re clear on what you want to accomplish within the month.

This will help you get to grips with the bigger picture, making sure you stay up to date and on track throughout your planning.

I’d be excited to hear what you really want to tick off your to-do list this month? Let me know in the comments below!

What they are & 3 things I recommend you consider if you’re hiring one for your wedding!

Dry hire venues such as marquees, tipis & yurts are a brilliant way to create a day which is unique to you. However, there is also a lot to consider ahead of time to make sure your day runs smoothly & to plan.

In this video I discuss;

1. Logistics & Supplier Requirements
2. Set-up
3. On The Day Coordination

& why these 3 points are crucial to think about ahead of your wedding day!

Let’s talk about the little details & why they make such a big impact...

The little details which encompass your wedding are what makes it unique to you. They are the subtle hints to your personality, your loves & the things which bring you joy.

They help to tell your story, the story of your wedding & love for one another.

Combined every detail should create a cohesive style and aesthetic. Complementing your venue, colour palette and decor.

The little details shouldn’t be underestimated, overlooked or under appreciated because believe me when I say it’s all in the details.
