One of the last events I catered for before closing Sea Graze last Autumn, was a lovely late summer wedding in Whitstable, for Lydia and Giorgi. This week I had a surprise email with these pics, which are just so lovely to see. This was food for 70 people which felt mammoth at the time - now I can't quite believe I managed it!

Hi everyone,

I just thought I'd pop on here and give you a little update on life after Sea Graze.

It was a strange experience to close the door on my little business back in October. For a while, I felt like I lost a big part of who I was. It may have only been for a couple of years but for a while I was 'Mary from Sea Graze' to which some would respond 'oh you're the one with the fancy platters!'.. I was proud of my little biz.

But since then, I've had fun getting back into the kitchen and rather than cutting cheese and making it look pretty, I've been cooking again, which I love. I do have a little FB page for that in case you're interested in seeing more photos of food - Mary G On A Plate

In terms of work, I'm still working in live events but also offering freelance services including graphic design, marketing, print production and event planning. My other big bit of news was I turned 50 this month. I genuinely can't believe I am actually that age, I still feel thirty (perhaps not my knees). We celebrated with lots of laughs, wine and plenty of cheese with friends for a week in Spain and it was glorious!

And that’s a wrap… 🧀

My last Sea Graze platters (for now at least…) have been delivered. The recipients are in for a real treat with the selection of cheese this week, with Altesse, Delice de Bourgogne, truffle cheddar, Ribblesdale and Pavé d'Affinois among them. Then there’s some off the French Jambon, salami rosette, beef Coppa and a hand cut Suffolk salami with fennel.

I won’t say goodbye, just ta-ra to this chapter, nor will I close this page… I’ve a few ideas about how I might keep the spirit of Sea Graze going. So watch this space..

It’s time…

I started Sea Graze in July 2020 in the midst of the first lockdown as my work in live events, graphic design and marketing had gone very quiet and I wanted to give myself something to do. I absolutely loved setting up my little business and learnt so much during the process. It also kept me sane, challenged and engaged during that very tricky period. It was a joy.

Once we finally emerged from the lockdown periods and my day-to-day work returned to some kind of normal, I continued to run Sea Graze along side my other work, continuing to push myself by doing things for the first time, like the bigger grazing tables and being trusted by my customers to feed guests at their wedding or other celebration. I would have never thought 2 years ago I could prepare the food for 70 people. But it turns out, I can.

However, with a very heavy heart and following lots of thought and lost sleep, it’s become clear that in the current market and with my other work commitments it’s not viable to keep on running Sea Graze. Therefore I have decided to close the order book. It feels like the right time.

I would like to thank every single one of my customers over the last two years, it has been an absolute pleasure to deliver platters of cheese joy to you, your friends and your families. I love to think about how much chatter and laughter has gone on at gatherings with a graze as it’s centrepiece. I’d also like to thank the family, friends, colleagues and other supporters who have bought platters, liked, commented or shared content here.

I’d also like to thank all the other small businesses who have been there during this time, especially those of us who emerged from Covid. There’s been so much inspiration here from them in particular.

This decision has been a really hard one to make, and it’s been on my mind all summer, but I have come to the conclusion that this is for the best. I have no regrets, I have learned so much and will take that experience and apply it to everything I do in the future.

For anyone who has an order booked and paid for, I will be honouring those orders of course, but I will not be taking any new orders. Also, if you have a gift voucher issued before October 2021 please contact me directly by email [email protected] to arrange a refund.

If anyone wishes to keep in touch with my foodie stuff, feel free to follow Mary G On A Plate - it’s been pretty inactive of late but it was my love of food and cooking which got me into this in the first place. I am looking forward to reclaiming my kitchen and having the time and desire to cook again.

This graze plate is as pretty as a picture and can be lifted out of the box and presented on the table, so no need to eat out of a box with this option! This grazing table to serve 70 was made up using our large grazing platters, and all together they made a real statement. As the platters are made in the kitchen here, they remain cool and fresh right until the moment they're taken out of the box, just when guests are ready to eat.

Using the large grazing platters also made it nice and easy to cater for differently dietary groups, and this spread included both meat free and a vegan platters.

As the owner of Sea Graze I cannot imagine how stressful this situation must have been for this fellow small business. Something like this could potentially happen to any of us small biz owners (though I'm not sure how £20k of cheese platters might look!).

In support, I've gone to her website and bought a couple of cards. I've asked her not to send them to me so that this small amount of £5 will go towards what she has lost.

Perhaps if enough other people do the same, then together we can make a difference.

If you’re wanting to serve your food outside over the warmer months, these larger graze platters are a great solution. Packed full of all the goodies you’d see on a grazing table but served on platters which can be kept cool and fresh until right before you’d like to serve them. The perfect solution to al fresco entertaining this summer.

All the same goodness as a grazing table but served on large platters (each platter serves 6).. great for keeping fresh and chilled right up until it’s time to eat and easy to pop into your table straight from the box.
