A little poem about why you should have a humanist celebrant led wedding.
You’ve just got engaged, now you’re planning the wedding,
Where do you start, with your hearts both jetting,
First is the when, go ahead pick a date,
It’s never too early, just don’t leave it too late.
Then there’s the venue, with choices galore,
The beach? The forest? The hall next door?
Maybe a castle with turrets and eye-catching towers,
Or maybe a barn hung with garlands and flowers.
You’ve got the “when” and the “where”, now it’s on to the “how”
What kind of wedding so your family’s won’t row?
A humanist celebrant? Oh I’m so glad you said,
That’s my job don’t you know, I’ll help get you wed.
I will write you a ceremony that’s unique to you pair,
One that’s crafted with meaning and written with care,
I’ll guide you through moments, both tender and grand,
It will even be legal, especially in this land (Northern Ireland that is)
Whatever you choose, traditional or quirky,

The groom and groomsmen take their places, all the guests stand for the entrance of the wedding party……and instead of entrance music, this comes on.

These children recorded the most beautiful message for their daddy, and even the tiniest one made sure he got his voice in too!

This was the most beautiful moment, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the place, including mine, and I knew it was happening. As for the grooms reaction…you can just imagine and then multiply it!

During the ceremony we set the children a task. They were asked to do a drawing for Niamh and Keelan and not just any drawing, they had to draw something they saw in the room, like the bride and groom, the flowers, even themselves…and boy did they step up and deliver.

Remember a few weeks ago I told you I had big news to share in June?? Well brace yourself, this is BIG!
A while ago I made the scary decision to make a huge change and take a massive risk…so after 16 years in the NHS and 14 years in my current role, it’s over. If you’re shocked reading this, trust me, I’m the same!
As of now when someone asks me what I do for a living I’ll be saying I’m a full time humanist wedding celebrant.
I trained with Humanists UK 5 years ago now, and it was the best decision ever.
During that time I have learnt so much, not just about marrying folk. I have had my eyes opened, changed my perspective and re-educated myself, it’s been quite the ride.
It’s the best job in the world, but trust me, it’s bloody hard work, there have been long days and a lot of late nights in front of the laptop, but it’s been worth it all.
Whoever thought it, 60 years of age and self employed for the first time in my life.
Am I nervous? Oh yea. Am I scared? Hell yea! But am I excited? You better believe it. It’s true what they say “this is not a dress rehearsal”. We only have one life and we should live it to the full.
I have a full and busy wedding season coming up, for which I am truly thankful. To all past, present and future couples, thank you for choosing me as your celebrant. I will never take the trust you place in me for granted.
So onwards and upwards, let’s see what the next chapter brings!
