Lets talk about Dying Matters, because talking about Dying, Matters. 🍃

Dying Matters Awareness Week runs from 6-12 May and together with The Friends of Gornal Library, we are offering a place where you can start those sensitive conversations.

Kerrie from our Bereavement services will be at Gornal library on Tuesday 7th May between 10.30-12.30, to offer support as you make your way through your journey of grief. Joining us in conversation is free and open to all.

If you are unable to join us at Gornal, you can access our information and support points which are situated in five of our local libraries, Stourbridge, Dudley, Halesowen, Kingswinford and Brierley Hill, where you will find recommended reading lists tailored to each individual library as well as information on the bereavement support we provide.

You are, as always welcome to contact us here at the hospice to find out more about our vital service and how we continue to support our community, at a time when they really need it.

Congratulations on your anniversary 💕

Congratulations on your anniversary 💕

Another year has gone by today since we opened the doors to G & L Mason Funeral Directors. What an absolute honour for us to do the job we do.
We would like to thank everyone who has been there & helped us along the way.
We have met some amazing families who unfortunately we met through their own loss of their loved one.❤
We will continue to do what we do with the love & compassion our families deserve ❤

An order of service for a loved ones funeral is an important piece of the set dressing for the occasion. A personal endorsement from us goes to Deanson Wilkes from Wednesbury who delivered a beautiful bespoke work of art for a client today. Excellent - well done.

In July 2012, after over 20 years, we left our offices in Darlaston and made the short journey to our new premises in Wednesbury. This afforded us better office accommodation and more extensive storage facilities within a single storey building. Our contact details can be found below, or in the cont...

Enormous congratulations to Winnie and Olive for this beautiful display produced for an American family who have briefly visited the UK for a memorial service and to scatter ashes.

Beautiful display and very fragrant.

Well done.

You can have fun at a funeral. This morning we had mourners up and dancing to 'knock three times' a favourite song of a much loved mother and grandmother.

Enormous thanks to Gaynor and her team from G and L Masons for dealing with the funeral with compassion and complete professionalism

Direct cremations or unattended cremations are an increasingly popular option for people planning the last journey of a person who has died.

Previously these have attracted some stigma either as a paupers funeral or for someone who had perhaps died while in prison for some terrible offence.

A direct cremation does away with any form of service at the crematorium. The costs involved are simply the admin and transportation fees and the cost of a simple coffin. Typically less than £1000.

The cost of a traditional funeral versus a direct cremation is not the only factor. A crematorium can be a difficult setting for people to visualise holding a celebration, and the logistics of getting people together often at short notice, and decisions about what religious content, if any, can make the process daunting and unappealing.

This doesn't mean there is no opportunity to celebrate the life of the person who has died, often a direct cremation will be accompanied by a memorial event, which can be held at any time, any place and in any style to suit those involved. It also allows the memorial event to be organised when restrictions such as Covid, or bad weather are less of a constraint.

For a free consultation on planning a memorial event for a loved one do not hesitate to get in touch.

A funeral should not just be about mourning the loss of a loved one, it is an opportunity to commemorate and celebrate a life that has been lived.
