Why not come down to Brockholes Nature Reserve on Thursday for a chat and to find out how an independent celebrant can make your ceremony truly unique in this stunning natural setting.

It's World Celebrants Week 2021! The first ever of it's kind - a week dedicated to highlighting the wonderful work that celebrants do.

A good explanation of celebrant-led weddings...

Celebrant-led weddings have boomed in popularity in recent year - but what is a celebrant and what do celebrant weddings involve?

Everyone, of whatever belief, should be able to have the ceremony they want!

Everyone, of whatever belief, should be able to have the ceremony they want!

As we're sure many of you are aware, Humanists UK is taking a case to the High Court next week, attempting to secure legal recognition of humanist wedding ceremonies in England and Wales. This is understandably causing many independent celebrants concern.

The Humanists UK case is a human rights one based on Humanism being a belief system. As independent celebrants we have no collective belief system to fight for, but we believe it's your human right to express yourselves in whichever way you wish on your wedding day.

There is a common misconception that all celebrants are humanist and therefore non-religious. That's not true. We come from all walks of life, and as independent celebrants we enable you to express whatever sentiments or customs you like in your ceremony.

The AOIC is working very hard to make the voices of independent celebrants heard in government and to inform the public that not all celebrants are humanist.

If Humanist celebrants win the right to conduct legal marriages it's a great result for those who want a Humanist wedding. But we want to ensure people realise they have choices, and we will keep campaigning to be given the same right.

The ongoing Law Commission weddings review does give us a real hope for the future, but if Humanists UK win this case, we are concerned it could negatively impact that review.

So, whether you're a celebrant or not, please share this post and help spread the word about what we do 🙌

Great news! Hopefully soon we will be able to plan and celebrate weddings and commitment - perhaps outdoors?

A ban on weddings and civil partnerships in Wales will end, but with no big celebrations allowed.

Such a good idea. These things mean so much at such a time.

Could I ask everyone for some help at this very difficult time....

Paying Our Respects

If you see a hearse, could you stop, stand for a moment as it passes, perhaps take off your cap, and bow your head?

In these times where funerals are limited to only a very few close family our chance to support people during bereavement is limited. So, we wondered if we could revive an old tradition that would show people that their loss is noticed and shared by us all?

It would mean the world to families in a time of sadness.

"It's hard to turn the page when you know someone won't be in the next chapter" anon.

If you lose someone dear to you in these strange times, you may feel you cannot say goodbye properly or give your loved one a fitting send-off in the way you would have wished, adding to your grief and sense of loss.

It may feel appropriate to consider arranging a Memorial Service to be held when life returns to normality. In these circumstances, we can begin to craft a fitting tribute (via email and video messaging), ensuring the full emotion of this difficult time is acknowledged. This can be completed and delivered at a future date.

Please contact me with any questions or to discuss your requirements.

Just back from conducting a naming ceremony at the Bijou Cinema in Southport. A wonderful venue and a really lovely family. I love my job!

Romance comes in so many different ways. Let’s hope that everywhere today is full of fresh hopes, new proposals and those who remember the magic they felt on their wedding day.
