VE75 on Friday 8th May
● Decorate your houses in red, white and blue
● Display a photo of family that have served or serving there country
● 11am - 2 minute silence across the nation
● 2pm - Local ex soldier Corporal Andrew Jackson of The Kings Own Royal Regiment (disbanded) will be setting off from the triangle in Wellington. He will be marching through the village in his uniform which he has not worn since 1997! Andrew will march from Wellington, onto Ellerslie Park, up to Bradbury House Carpark, continue onto Denton Park and go as far as the junction where you turn left on to Denton Park Court, he will then go down Whitecroft (Wasdale side) and back up Whitecroft (Eskdale side) before turning onto Meadowfield and going left, then towards Meadowfield Grove, onto Hallbeck Place, upto the Lion and Lamb, turning and going to the War Memorial where he will lay a wreath in memory of all those sadly lost. The march will take Andrew approximately 45 minutes. Once Andrew has reached the war memorial Jodie McQuisten will play The Last Post. Andrew would love as much support on his march with people clapping, cheering and waving flags. Please come out and find a socially distanced place to stand and support. A quote from Andrew " the front line troops often had very little serviceable equipment, but still put their lives at risk for us. We are seeing this now with the NHS and critical workers. So if we can raise some funds to help keep them safe then we have done what our families did for our heroes in 1945"
● Donation buckets will be placed at the entrance to Walkmill Gardens, Denton Park, Meadowfield, Hallbeck Place, Gosforth Bakery and The Lion & Lamb they will be there from 1.30 until 3.00pm. Donations to Bradbury House and West Cumberland Hospital
● 3pm - Miss Cindy Hoten will lead the national Toast to the Heros. Raise a glass to all our heros past and present. Miss Cindy Hoten who was due to sing in Gosforth on our original VE plans will then be singing old war songs in uniform. ●6 pm - Nation Toast to your neighbours.Raise a glass to your neighbours.
● 9pm - Nation sing along on front doorstep to "We'll Meet Again" by Vera Lynn. Let's hear the village
