I've seen a lot of friends posting the following message about a new mental health crisis line number 116 123. It isn't new, it's the number for the Samaritans, who are an excellent volunteer run organisation. That number will never show up on a phone bill, so you can call on behalf of yourself or a friend in total confidence.
There are some other great resources available too. In Devon and Sonerset there is a first response team who can be contacted via phone or web. Links in comments.
Mindline and Shout are also useful.
