Iyan & Gavin - Old Milton, Kingussie

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮…

After meeting on Instagram in January 2019 when Iyan was living in Scotland and Gavin in the US (quickly bonding over The Legend of Zelda and haircare) the pair stayed in touch. Iyan later moved to Portland, Oregon, during his PhD studies where he met up with Gavin and just a year later, there were two romantic proposals: Iyan proposing in the forest in Oregon, Gavin repropose on Christmas Day in Iyan's family’s living room.

𝘼𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙬𝙤 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙖𝙡𝙨, 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣?

The biggest consideration was our loved ones – in other words, how could we get Iyan’s Scottish entourage and Gavin’s US side together in one location?

A must for us was to marry surrounded by nature; a reminder of the vast Highland landscapes where Iyan grew up and the temperate rainforests of Washington state where Gavin is from. We chose Old Milton in the Cairngorms National Park because Iyan’s family are based nearby and it was a great base for our US guests to begin exploring Scotland.

𝘿𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙫𝙚𝙨?

We did and we were really lucky- our friends and family did so much to help us bring everything together on the day, which was an amazing bonding experience. Our arch, for example, was made by Iyan’s brother Kylle and our wedding knot came from strips of tweed fabric from Iyan’s parents’ shop, The Sutherland Sporting Tweed Company.

We will admit that we underestimated the work involved in doing everything by ourselves.We worked well as a team and wanted to keep things simple but we still ended up investing a lot of time and energy into creating a love-filled environment for everyone.

𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙪𝙨 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙞𝙜 𝙙𝙖𝙮...

It started the night before when we went for dinner with all of our favourite people to McInnes House Hotel in Kingussie. After enjoying everyone’s company, we definitely needed a good night’s sleep to feel ready!

Hannah & Mark - Cornhill Castle

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮…

Organising a surprise proposal for a gal who is a “bit of a planner” isn’t easy as Mark found out when he hoped to pop the question during a holiday to the States. Hannah had packed so much into their holiday that he ran out of time!

Mark decided to take matters into his own hands, masterminding a surprise trip to Sicily. He planned a similarly full itinerary: the longest zip line in Europe, climbing Mount Etna and on their fourth anniversary, a chartered boat trip to the perfect location for the most beautiful proposal.

𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙬𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙁𝙊𝙐𝙍 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝𝙨? 𝙃𝙤𝙬??!

With the venue, cake and flowers in the bag, we took on the majority of the remaining wedmin ourselves – and it was a total team effort. Mark is very creative. He designed and printed our wedding invites and stationery for the day (and has done the same for our friends since). We also organised the favours, plus confetti and sparklers for guests in the evening.

As one of our flower girls was very young, her flower crown didn’t fit properly so I made her a headband with dried pampas grass and bunny tails.

My (Hannah) dad helped too, crafting a wedding photo board and candy cart (which has already had its second outing at my baby shower, ahead of little Oscar arriving in February 2024)! Mum got involved as well, organising toiletry boxes filled with all the necessities for guests to help themselves to in the bathrooms.

My bouquet was mainly dried flowers with lots of pampas grass. We added a wooden dried flower arch for the ceremony and it doubled up as a backdrop for our cake later in the day. Bells made a great effort personalising this, making sure the flowers on the arch matched our colour theme. We complemented the florist’s expertise with our DIY efforts – lots of candles, lanterns, dried flower accessories and even a pair of cherry blossom trees.

𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙯𝙞𝙣𝙜! 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙛𝙞𝙩𝙨?

Keeping it classy and timeless, we used Mark’s tartan and my dress as inspiration for our neutral, earthy-toned colour scheme.

Christina & Ben - Craigmillar Castle

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮…

US couple, Ben and Christina, chose Edinburgh’s ‘other castle’ for their international summer wedding, the perfect venue to embrace Scottish roots and celebrate with their international guests.

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙎𝙘𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙?

Ben's family has Scottish roots, and we enjoy attending the Highland festival in Estes Park, Colorado each year. Our first international trip together included a stop in Edinburgh. Whilst we were there, we visited Inchcolm Island and saw a wedding. It was stunning and we thought it would be a very cool thing to do.

When we got engaged, we decided Scotland would be the ideal setting for us.

𝘿𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙤 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛?

We worked with Tracie Walls, who originally planned our wedding at Inchcolm Island. Planning with Tracie made planning from a distance completely manageable. Tracie booked the piper, florist, celebrant and photos for us. For everything else, she met with us remotely and listened to our vision for what we wanted. Then, based on our responses, she offered us several high-quality options for everything else we selected. Thus, we got exactly what we wanted, but only had to select from a few well-researched options.

The major challenge for us was a late change in venue. Historical Scotland was completing structural evaluations at Inchcolm Island, and thus the abbey was not accessible. Again, Tracie gave us several options and helped guide us to the best one for our preferences and we changed venues to Craigmillar Castle. It was incredible, the staff were fantastic and we could not have asked for anything better.

𝙂𝙡𝙖𝙙 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙙! 𝙒𝙝𝙤 𝙚𝙡𝙨𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢?

We held a welcome event at The Granary with a dancer and piper, as well as whisky tasting, and had a fantastic time. Our piper, Matty and Kayleigh, the dancer (both from Pipers for All Occasions) were one of the most fun things; we don't often get the opportunity to see traditions like that where we live.

On the day, our photographer, Teresa Sumerfield, and florist, Flowers by Isla were brilliant. Jean Bodie, our celebrant, did a fantastic job, was super helpful and made the officiant portion of the wedding very easy. We booked The Ghost Bus for transportation to the reception and enjoyed the tour on our way to Le Monde.

Mia & Martin - Bachilton Barn

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮…

Nature lovers Mia and Martin took inspiration from Scottish wildflower meadows for their beautifully bohemian Bachilton Barn wedding.

Mia and Martin love exploring woods and forests and naturally Martin chose one of their favourites, Devilla Forest, to propose while they were out on a dog walks.

“It was and still is one of our favourite places to walk the dog!” she says.

The couple had been together six years and finding a venue that fitted their style and personality, in a picturesque setting was of the utmost importance when it came to planning a wedding with sustainability at the heart.

As soon as they walked into Bachilton Barn in Perthshire they knew it was exactly what they’d had in mind and the deal was sealed when they spied the woods in the grounds.

“It has the most relaxed setting and we could add our own personal touches,” remembers Mia. "There were so many different spaces we could use and the amount of accommodation and hot tubs available was amazing. When we saw the woods and spoke with Kayleigh (the wedding manager) about the potential of using them we definitely couldn’t say no! Any way you looked you saw green space with sheep, cows and horses. What’s not to love?”

With the venue chosen they got to work on their vision for a Scottish wildflower meadow theme with a relaxed, natural feel.

They put their trust in Stunning Flowers, a Perthshire florist that bases their work on sustainability.

“All the floristry they created exceeded our expectations,” recalls Mia, "As soon as I saw the flowers I cried at how perfectly Ros had created the vision we had for the day.”

Mia loved her bespoke floral crown so much she didn’t want to take it off!

Alongside the wildflowers, Mia put her PhD studies in Entomology front and centre, adding insect touches throughout the décor.

“The aisle featured brown bottles collected from the lab I work in with pampas grass from a neighbour’s garden and eucalyptus stems, and I created the table plan using a wooden palette and set butterflies and moths in frames with matching table numbers which Martin wrote.”

Megan & Kyle - Auchen Castle

Megan and Kyle met on their first day at college and have been together ever since. Initially, they planned to hold their wedding in a mountain resort in New Hampshire but a fire at their venue led them to radically change their plans...

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙎𝙘𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙬𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜?

We were hoping to honeymoon in Scotland after our US wedding and when our original plans changed, we had an idea that we could do everything in the same place. We reached out to Lisa Bauer, owner of Tartan Weddings. She was eager to help and came back with something better than we could have ever imagined. Lisa reached out to Auchen Castle and by some twist of fate, they had our original wedding date available. Not only did they have our date, but if our friends and family were willing, we could bring 50 people along with us. In 4 months, Lisa helped us plan the wedding of our dreams.

𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙪𝙨 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝/𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙙.

We chose the 'All Taken Care Of' package from Auchen Castle. They found and booked almost all of our vendors. All we had to do was make some decisions and show up. Every vendor was truly amazing from start to finish. I can’t believe how lucky we were that they were all available on such short notice.

Lisa recommended our celebrant, John Leo Scott, and our photographer/videographer duo, Del and JayJay. Our celebrant made us feel very comfortable from the very beginning, starting with a video call to introduce himself. From there it was a breeze. He wrote the most amazing ceremony that our guests still talk about.

Our photographers felt like part of the family and were hanging out with our guests at the end of the night. They are so talented and blended into our group seamlessly.

The staff at Auchen were incredible. They kept track of the days timeline, were available for any concern, and anticipated needs before I even had them.

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙖 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚? 𝘿𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙞𝙧𝙚 𝙖 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥 𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙤 𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛? 𝘼𝙣𝙮 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙨?

I honestly don’t believe that we could have done it without Lisa. She helped with everything from booking taxis to recommending vendors, coordinating deposits and every tiny communication in between. The only challenge we faced before the wedding day was some confusion with our Visa applications but everything ended up going smoothly.

Jess & Matt - Loch Chon, Ben A'an and Duchray Castle

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮…

Jess and Matt first met at school and began dating in 2010 while they were at college. They were living and working in Australia when Matt proposed at sunset, after a day of whale-watching on the beach.

𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙤𝙥𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙖 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙬𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙠𝙨...

Having been together for such a long time, we had discussions about our wedding day but always struggled with what we wanted it to look like. We had never pictured our wedding to be a traditional state of affairs and we wanted it to reflect the journeys we had been on and our current lifestyle.

Matt suggested that we should get married whilst we were at home. At first this sounded crazy as we were due to leave in just over a month and were only going to be home for two months – so how on earth were we going to plan a wedding?

We ended up deciding on the Trossachs, which was partly due to finding our photographers, The Caryls. We loved the way in which they document a wedding day and it really spoke to us. The Caryls also helped us plan the rest of our wedding. They were always there to answer our questions and gave answers beyond what we could have expected. We will be forever grateful to them for their help.

We decided on Loch Chon for the ceremony followed by a hike to Ben A’an. We chose Duchray Castle for the reception as it was one of only a small number of accommodation options that allowed all our guests to stay on site and have the grounds to ourselves – this was an important thing for us.

Having surprised our family on Christmas Day with our planss, there was little more than a month to get everything else sorted.There was no particular colour scheme, but our photographers advised us to encourage everyone to wear natural tones, creams and pastels to blend with the outdoors.

Initially, I was worried my ballgown style dress would make it almost impossible to hike to the top of a mountain, but the solution came in the shape of a Bridal Buddy underskirt. It goes under your wedding dress and then you tuck your whole dress in it and it makes you look like a massive snowball!

With only 11 guests in total, there were no other members of their wedding party so it was just us for our private ‘first look’ at the castle before we headed to the loch.

Brendan & Lisa - Cairns Farm Estate

Brendan and Lisa had a difficult choice when it came to their wedding: Scotland or the Caribbean? Obviously, the best country won….

𝙊𝙠𝙖𝙮. 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙖𝙮𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙄𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙪𝙡, 𝙨𝙪𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙚-𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙙, 𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙮-𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙙 𝘾𝙖𝙮𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙄𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨. 𝙎𝙤 𝙬𝙝𝙮 𝙎𝙘𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙?

Despite a Caribbean wedding being a natural choice, it was prohibitively expensive to ask so many people to fly out to the Cayman Islands. Also, our friends in Cayman and the Middle East inevitably flock home for the summer each year and as Scotland is near to family and friends and easy to get to, it was our first choice. And it's beautiful!

𝘾𝙖𝙣’𝙩 𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙪𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩! 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙡𝙚𝙛𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙬𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 7500 𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮. 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙜𝙤?

Cairns Farm Estate had a bespoke service that was tailored to our needs and eliminated the need to deal with numerous vendors etc, which was key for us (especially with a time difference of 6 hours). We had a few very early morning calls before work to sort things out but everyone was really accommodating. It can be challenging but Cairns Farm were wonderfully accommodating. We felt confident from the moment we chose the venue, our stress levels were low and our excitement levels were high. Exactly how they should be!

Isla from Flowers By Isla was wonderfully warm and welcoming. She even popped by in the morning to drop off the gorgeous bouquets and corsages.

Lyn McKenzie Hair and Make Up - what can we say? Lyn made the bridal party feel naturally gorgeous and we did not stop laughing the whole morning. We felt like we had known her for years. A talented woman!

Our photographer choice was Fern Photography. We chose Dan after meeting a few photographers over Zoom and just felt he was the most down to earth and friendly, humble and very talented. We felt nervous at our pre-wedding shoot which was included in the package but meeting Dan in person made us feel relaxed for our day. His wonderful work was sent to us quickly and we loved all the photos, both posed and candid.

Bethany & Tease - Broxmouth Courtyard

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮…

Bethany and Tease first met in 2016 when they attending the same church in Aberdeen. They became good friends, started dating in 2020 and, after two-and-a-half years together, they got engaged at one of Bethany's favourite places, Loch Morlich.

𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙬𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝𝙨. 𝙃𝙤𝙬??!

We wanted a venue close to Edinburgh with a unique vibe and Broxmouth Courtyard ticked all the boxes. It’s such a stunning venue and had the capacity to hold all the guests we wanted to invite.

We did a lot of the decorating ourselves. The wedding arch, the centrepieces, décor and favours were all DIY. We have lots of creative friends who helped make all this happen: our friend Kirsty made all the invitations and for favours and we handmade personalised s’mores for everyone to enjoy at the fire pits in the evening.

As Tease is originally from Tema in Ghana, we wanted to incorporate the country’s traditional kente cloth, which is known for its beautiful bright colours.

We chose dried flower bouquets which could be kept as mementos of the day.

𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙯𝙞𝙣𝙜! 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙛𝙞𝙩𝙨?

I knew I wanted a fitted dress with a train and narrowed down the search. We had a lot of fun exploring a couple of shops in Edinburgh and trying on the dresses. None of those were ‘The One’ but they helped me know what I did and didn’t want. I eventually found the ideal dress from Wed2Be in Glasgow – a fitted, mermaid style with a low back. It has some details on the straps and down the dress. Very simple and absolutely beautiful.

I had the absolute joy of wearing my friend’s veil – who I was bridesmaid for the year before – and she was also my bridesmaid.

Lorinda & Jean-Francois - Kintail Lodge

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮…

US-based Lorinda and Jean-Francois know Scotland well and love the landscape and the people. They wanted their wedding to be somewhere special to both of them and to share their favourite place with their friends and families.

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢?

We loved how Lynne Kennedy is able to capture the wildness of the landscape with the softness of the couple. She was brilliant in the leadup to the wedding and knew some really dramatic out of the way spots. Lynne stuck with us all day and she had found out the names of all the key people (our close friends and family) so when the speeches were happening she knew who to look at to capture the emotions. We have some wonderful photos.

Helen and all of the staff at The Kintail Lodge Hotel were truly amazing. We were the biggest wedding they had done and they just pulled it off so smoothly. Our friends are a pretty relaxed bunch of people and there was a lot of joking around and laughing with the staff. They really made us feel comfortable and accommodated all of our requests.

The actual ceremony we held on the banks of Loch Duich (very brave we know, rain we were prepared for but we spent weeks worrying about the midges - luckily it was just breezy enough on the day that they weren't around at that time). The Kintail Lodge let us carry a bunch of chairs and other furniture down from the bar and helped us set up.

We chatted to a few celebrants but knew we wanted to work with David Smith as soon as we spoke to him. He was really easy to talk to and one of the best parts of the day was David telling our story to our friends and family. His lovely dog Ella accompanied him to the ceremony and she was a big hit with some of our friends from Australia who were missing their dogs back home.

We organised the wedding at relatively short notice and so had a bit of trouble finding a florist. We ended up working with Flo's Flowers from Inverness and we are so happy that we did. Her flowers were absolutely gorgeous and she took my very vague thoughts of "pink and red with eucalyptus" and made us some stunning bouquets and table pieces. The flower crowns that she made for our flower girls were adorable and my only regret was that I didn't ask for one for me!

Kelly Ann and Urszula - Kingswood Hotel Burntisland

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮…

After first locking eyes on the dancefloor, Ula planned a magical proposal to Kelly in her native country of Poland during the new year fireworks – then Kelly proposed to Ula shortly after that, organising a pretend surprise birthday party for her.

𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙬𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙮𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙝. 𝘿𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥?

Ula is the DIY person and I (Kelly) got into wedding planning, watching lots of videos for inspiration because I didn’t want to miss any ideas. We wanted our day to truly embody who we are so it was a beach vibe with a boho theme; Neutral and natural; relaxing and free… just like us!

We made ourr own welcome signs, table names, table plan and favours, whilst a friend helped with the bigger wooden pieces like the rustic ‘Mrs and Mrs’ sign. Meanwhile, our florist Carpe Diem took care of the finishing touches, like table décor and the absolutely gorgeous flowers, which we used in our garden afterwards.

𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙪𝙨 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙞𝙜 𝙙𝙖𝙮...

We had hoped for an outdoor ceremony so were disappointed when we realised rain was on its way – but all was well. We can’t control the weather after all. I tried to do some mindfulness, which didn’t work for where my energy was so opted for a 20-minute cardio workout. Don’t ask me why but it helped calm my nerves!

I (Kelly) walked down the aisle first and was so happy to see Ula coming towards me, especially because Edwina Hayes was singing for us.

We saw Edwina at an acoustic club years before and instantly fell in love with her song Feels Like Home. I still remember Ula holding my hand while we watched her live and I told Edwina that night I may just contact her to sing at our ceremony if we were ever to get married. That dream came true and it was more emotional than we ever thought; a really special moment for both of us.

We were married by celebrant Dorothy Nowak, who is part-Polish and conducted the ceremony in a way that both Kelly and Ula’s families could understand but we also made a book with translations to make sure the Polish entourage could fully follow everything.

Jaylan & Aaron - Dalhousie Castle & Aqueous Spa

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮…

It's quite a leap from Indiana, USA to Edinburgh but when you discover your dream Scottish castle venue is your husband to be's ancestral home, could Jaylan and Aaron's wedding ever be anywhere else?

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙎𝙘𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙬𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜?

This is the question I get asked so frequently back home! I am an avid historical fiction reader and history buff, so when I stumbled across the book Outlander I was immediately hooked. I actually didn’t know much about the history of Scotland and was so enamoured by its brutal but interesting history. Then, when they made the book into a TV show, I was blown away at how beautiful Scotland was and all it had to offer. I felt like I belonged there. So when I got engaged and started thinking about what I wanted for my wedding, I knew I wanted a once in a lifetime experience.

My husband, coincidentally, has several Scottish ties and is actually closely related to the Ramsay clan and when I found out Dalhousie Castle, their ancestral castle, offered weddings, it just felt like where I was supposed to be.

𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙪𝙨 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝/𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙙.

All of the vendors I worked with were amazing. Despite the distance and time change, they were all very easy to get ahold of and talk to.

My celebrant John Leo Scott was incredible and facetimed several times to come up with the most beautiful, personalized ceremony.

My photographer Neil Thomas Douglas did a great job at making me feel comfortable in front of the camera and got great shots that I will cherish forever. Same with Jst Married Films, very kind and hardworking people who spent time scoping the property and finding the best places to shoot scenes for our wedding film.

My hair and makeup gals Gillian and Cat were incredibly fun and had the best conversations with myself and the girls of my family as we got ready. Stockbridge Flower Company was super easy to work with and followed my vision perfectly. I cannot say enough good things about everyone I had the pleasure of working with for my wedding, truly! Liggy’s Cakes did a phenomenal job on our cake.
