I don’t know about you but More often than not I can find obstacles to getting creative just for me:
- The studio is a mess
- I don’t have the right flowers/ they are too old!
- The lighting is wrong
- I have NO TIME
- It will look rubbish
- No one will like it
But when I let go of all this and just get on with it, those 10 minutes to create with no agenda, allows space for some floral fun!
Which is nourishing for the soul and brings me JOY!
Particularly when it’s grey and pissing it down outside 🫣🤪🌧️
I’ve started to do this with leftover flowers at the end of every event/wedding we do and I love it…

It was such an honour to create floral magic for this wonderful pair @barn_a_b & @eve.mrphy in the most stunning setting of @ashlack.estate in the Lake District last weekend 💖

It’s another grey rainy Saturday here so I’m channeling summer rain instead ☀️☔️🌈
Antirrhinum or the name I prefer ‘Snapdragons’ are one of our absolute fave annual flowers to grow.
They come in all the colours, some even with frills like the Madame Butterfly Series.
They are teeniest seeds that take their sweet time to germinate but once they’ve got going are easy to grow.
We LOVE THEM & can’t wait for their return 💖

First to go in are some Smilo Grasses that we grew from seed last year from the amazing @gandgorgeousflowers
These will be followed by a selection of Echinacea’s including our fave Rainbow Marcella, along with Rudbeckia, Asters, Sanguisorba and other grasses.

A few days ago I was given a note book that was created by my beloved Granny Helga (also my middle name!)
Here you can see her planting plans, A-Z of plants and her own illustrations of her beloved garden that she started in 1979.
We are planting up our own small piece of land with many of the plants she listed and that is special 💚🌱🌷
The ancestral connection and inspiration this has given me is really uplifting and heartwarming and I didn’t know this even existed until my aunt gave it to me.
This is the woman who insisted I sowed seeds because they ‘bring hope’ and I’ll remember that as we embark on seed sowing this week 🌱🌱🌱

Trees 🌳 🌳🌳
Rory spends ALOT of time thinking about the tree situation on our plot, (and LOVES his chainsaw 😜) Each time a tree is felled there is a good reason behind it and we are so conscious of how all the different eco systems & habitats interact here.
We’ve got a large number of tree stumps and sycamore that we’ve decided to take out to increase the light and the Hazel are all being coppiced on a rotation basis.
To let the light in feels AMAZING and to keep chipping away at the hedges and edges on our small piece of land feels like we are getting somewhere and will only help our flower babes grow!

We gave half of our Achilliea Pastels & Summer Berries the “Chelsea Chop” (in reality mid June!) and it’s worked a treat for prolonging the flowering of one our fave fillers.
We’ve expanded our selection this year and also have Terracotta & Walter Funcke in shades orange 🧡
We always wait till it’s got a good firm stem (that wiggle test is good!) before we cut it so that the tiny flowers don’t droop!
