Amateurism Radio Amateurism Radio provides a platform and community for a collective of friends and music heads to share musical discoveries. True amateurs.

We do this through broadcasting 24/7 on Amateurism Radio, hosting parties and DJing at festivals. An amateur, meaning “Lover of” (a French word derived from the Latin amatorem nom. amator, “lover”)

The true representation of an amateur DJ. A collective of friends brought together by a common passion for discovering special records (both modern and old), whether made for the dancefloor or just wit

h a strong vibe. People who spend their spare time striving to find exciting new music to fit into DJ sets, but have zero interest in making DJing their profession. People that love dance music but see it as a boundary free genre. The world is a bigger place than nightclubs and ravers, but at the same time, nothing beats the feeling of a special party. The more exotic and amateur the better, approached with dedication and love… And lots of close friends. Amateurism, where we measure the vibes in strength.

Happy 14th February everyone 💘

To celebrate the cutest days in the calendar, our Sinead is here with a great new playlist for us all. One of the more recent additions to the ever-growing Amateurism Tribe, Sinead’s got the vibes, the selections, and more. Please see Q&A below + the link to the playlist in our bio. X

3 Questions with Sinead Hanlon:

Q: Hey Sinead, happy Valentines! Thanks so much for contributing to our growing Spotify playlist series with a loved-up collection – and for your ace shows on recently, we love your selections! Please tell us more about your connection with music and any artists or sounds that are exciting you the most right now…

Happy Valentines to all the incredible Am-Rad crew. A community showing so much love when the world needs it the most. Thanks so much to and the head honcho’s for letting me share this little Valentine’s playlist.

Growing up I was lucky enough to have a Dad that was fully immersed into his music, heavily into his punk, ska, dub and Motown (he was - and still is - a dead ringer for Terry Hall). He has a record room which is literally stacked full of vinyl high from the ceiling down to the floor – all in alphabetical order! I grew up listening to so many genres of music blasting out at high volume from that room, something I’m sure the neighbours will also remember vividly! On weekends I would go with him into town to in Manchester and there would be a stack of records waiting for him to listen to that the managers had picked out for him. This was all such an education for me and even just the vibe of the record shop itself and the people within it showed me how magical the energy of music was, and still is.

We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome the inimitable Kelley Ralph as our latest contributor to the Amateurism Spotify playlist series. A legend. Q&A below. Link in bio. X

Q: Hey Kelley, welcome to the playlistdome! You’ve been such a great supporter of Amateurism for years now, it’s a pleasure to have you onboard musically, can you tell us a bit about your choice of selections for this playlist?

Thanks so much, Leo! From the moment you told me about Amateurism, I thought, “Wow, this is a genius idea—exactly what the world needs right now.” A space where music lovers can come together to share, connect, and celebrate. Despite my many attempts to convince you to take the commercial route, you’ve stayed true to your vision, keeping the brand pure and authentic, which only makes me love it more.

When you asked me to put together a list, I was thrilled and honoured. At first, I wasn’t sure which direction to go, so I focused on tunes that have moved me or brought me joy. Each one carries a fun memory, like Damian Lazarus’s “Diamond in the Dark.” Hearing that for the first time on the Filthy Dukes tour bus at Bestival showed me a different side of the mysterious Damian I knew back then. His lyrics about seeing the light in people touched me deeply, and from that moment, I saw him in a new light. Looking back, I think that’s his magic—spotting talent, nurturing it, and helping others flourish.

My ‘80s selections are nostalgic for me. I was a huge fan of Japan and Depeche Mode and ran with a local crew called The Bangor West Virgins. We’d spend our nights drinking cider, walking along railway tracks with a ghetto blaster on our shoulders, listening to The Smiths, The Jam, The Fall, and Siouxsie and The Banshees. We played those albums on repeat, and those memories are forever stored in my memory box.

Amateurism Tribe

Amateurism is a collective of DJs, a tribe of party people and a family of friends. Formed in 2011 by DJ and promoter Leo Walton, what originally started as a music blog to bring together people with a certain penchant for unearthing rare and special records has now evolved into a tight crew that host annual parties and areas at festivals. Amateurism are closely affiliated with Beat Hotel, Glastonbury, Port Eliot Festival, The Social and The Marina Fountain.
