Auricula "Limelight" a fantastic show- self raised by Tim Coop in 1998 two examples here shown at Knowle in 2011.
In the 2024 seedlist, open to members of our society there was a cross of Limelight and medow lane , I'm sure there are many who are excited to see how they turn out.

The Agm held on Saturday was a great success with lots of members in attendance with a popular plant sale led by Richard Williams we also enjoyed two fantastic talks from Robert Holgate who gave a great insight into the seed register and Sarah Millington from Hillveiw Hardy Plants on growing Auriculas at her commercial nursery.

We also said Thankyou but not goodbye to Neil Tyers for his service as secretary for the past 11 years after earlier this year announcing he will be stepping down from the role.
Neil has been an integral part of the running of the society and also been instrumental in pushing the society forward, welcoming new members and ensuring we maintain the beliefs and standards of the society. This post also gives us an opportunity again to thank Neil for his service and we look forward to seeing him lots more in the future.

We now welcome and embrace Peter Squire as our new Secretary and look forward to his posative approach to society life, and will be supporting him through his journey.

Two Gold centred Alpines "Jeff Scruton" and "Lady of the vale" I wonder if these are in a collection somewhere or lost. These have been bred from some big hitters still seen on the show bench so we do hope.

"Jeff Scruton" raised by Ken Bowser in 2007 from a Toffee Crisp - 9427 cross. Winning best alpine in show Cheadle 2010 and a premier medal in 2013 at newbottle. Shown here at Knowle 2011 by John Cattle who's Alpines always leave people open mouthed.

"Lady of the vale"
Raised by Cliff Thompson in 1993 from Andrea Julie X Largo.
Shown here by Brian Clarke in 2011 at Saltford.

It's always a great moment when all of the hard work creating the yearly Argus book is complete and they are all posted out to our members.

Sarah has worked very hard to produce a wonderful Argus book this year, giving members a wealth of information and news.

Brilliant job Sarah, and thankyou to everyone who has contributed to the production of this.

The Argus 71 will be landing on your doorstep very soon.

Another great reason to join our wonderful society.

We have in the Midland & West archive copies of the Argus stretching back over many years. They show how the plants, the growers and our yearbook itself has changed. If you are interested in acquiring some of them, please contact the archivist (name in the current edition), any committee member or leave a comment below and I will contact you. AG

Three seedling Grey Edge Auriculas were standing at the back of my greenhouse bench. Lynn, my wife but known to many as ‘the Seed Lady’ (I have heard myself referred to at an Auricula show as ‘Lynn’s husband’ – a measure of humility is good for all of us) looked in and said, “I like that one” and then went off to destroy more weeds in the border. A short while later, the plants were standing in a different order at the back of the bench, when Lynn looked in, pointed and said, “I still like that one.” I wrote a note on the back of the plant label. The truss opened properly in time for the Northern Show of 2015 and was put into the Grey Seedling class. When we were allowed back into the hall after judging, there was the magic red card in front of the plant. While we were admiring this, the Secretary reminded me, “First Prize, Allan. That plant needs a name.” The steward, who was just passing, stopped, looked at his list and said, “It has a name already. I’ve written it down. On the back of the label it says ‘Lynn’s Favourite’. ”

Pictured here "Roberto" and "Lynn's Favorite in Class 2 Romsley 2023
Roberto - Raised by Dr Robert Newton in 1965 and features in Argus 25. A John X Teem seedling. It's always great to see this on the bench.

Lynn's Favorite - Raised by Allan Guest in 2011 featuring in Argus 62 A Margaret Martin X Hawkwood seedling. I'm hoping Allan will do a nice feature on this stunning Auricula at some point in the future.
