Who is ? Where did she come from? One thing is for certain, she will leave your jaw dropped and your mind boggled.
Following on from National Neurodiversity Celebration week, because there are simply too many stars we want to shine a light on for just one week - we’re sharing Sh*tney’s experience as an Autistic performer.
💬”As a kid in the performance industry, being autistic was pretty isolating. I never quite fit in with the others in productions, classes, rehearsals, or auditions. I never fully understood why I didn’t feel like part of it, even though performing was all I wanted to do. I finally found my home in an inclusive physical theatre, where I was introduced to clowning. That was when I realized that my brain working differently from everyone else’s wasn’t a negative thing - in fact, it was something to be celebrated.
As an adult, I moved into circus work, and Sh*tney began forming out of all the traits I had been taught were “undesirable” as a kid. Working with and showed me that being weird and just generally a bit silly was exactly what people wanted to see.
Those parts of myself that I once saw as negative - being awkward, making people uncomfortable, being clumsy, and never quite knowing what to do with myself or my body - became an integral part of Sh*tney’s persona. I’ve always been fearless and unashamed on stage, and having a character that lets their freak flag fly taught me that maybe it’s okay for me to do that when I’m just Yasmin, too.“
We are so excited to have Sh*tney performing at our “This Is Our Lives” cabaret.
