Last minute ideas for your wedding?

There's always time to make your wedding feeling more "you."

You don't need a ton of time (or money) to make your big day truly memorable—not only for you but for your friends and loved ones, too.

From choosing a location to booking a band, planning a wedding involves so many big decisions that sometimes the little details get shoved to the end of the list. If you're struggling to see enough personal touches in the final weeks leading up to the wedding, don't stress!

We've rounded up a handful of ways to add extra personality to your big day, and even included tips from wedding planners and other expert resources that will help you pull it off.

Because we know that the weeks right before the wedding can be tense, these are all easy, won't double your budget, force you to redo your timeline, or have you calling three different vendors to talk something through. What these ideas do for you?

They'll give your ceremony or reception that extra special pop of color or character and set the celebration apart from others. After all, you and your new husband or wife are what this wedding is all about, and the day should be reflective of who you are.

So put together a last-minute confetti toss, ask your waiters to wear the wedding's signature color, or add another sentimental touch if you want to.

One of the simplest ways to put your mark on the day is ordering custom cocktail napkins. A bride penned funny quotes and ordered them from ForYourParty.com. We love that it's her handwriting and it's one-of-a-kind. Plus, they'll make for great additions to dinner parties in years to come.

In the Fold

Instantly add interest to your dinner table with a unique ordinary napkin fold. "It could be used as a pocket to hold a menu or a sprig of something pretty or just add some interesting texture to the table," suggests Robin Baab Olascoaga of Ro & Co. Events.

Your Name in Lights

11 NEON WEDDING SIGNS THAT LIT UP REAL RECEPTIONS

Custom neon signs are easy to order in most towns, or you can go the online route via Name Glo. Just want to showcase the initial of your last name? Check out Beam. We've seen hashtags, "established by" dates, and monograms, but think they are great for hanging by the dancefloor or at your after-party. And post-wedding, they make a great statement piece above a couch in your home. Not ready to commit to wall art that will decorate your home? Rent an existing option from a place like Let There be Neon to use just for your wedding.

Get Personal

Jessica Masi of Masi Events suggests hand-writing notes to each of your guests and placing them in the envelopes that serve as their es**rt cards. "This makes guests feel truly welcomed and appreciated." They don't have to be long or too in-depth but it's a small gesture with a big impact.

Prop It Up

8 INVENTIVE WAYS TO REVAMP YOUR WEDDING PHOTO BOOTH

Guarantee that the photos from your photobooth represent your big day by setting out some hand-picked props. This couple blew up a photo of their cat and also provided a few balloons, sunglasses, and streamers.

Leave Your Mark

12 ALTERNATIVE ENTERTAINMENT IDEAS FOR A UNIQUE WEDDING RECEPTION

Though some couples do bring in an actual tattoo artist, we think going the temporary route has a bigger appeal to most folks. Wendy Kay of Birds of a Feather Events suggests offering a few designs for guests to choose from. Check out Tattly or Zazzle to place a custom order.

A Customized Uniform

Stefanie Miles of Stefanie Miles Events says a nice way to upgrade your wedding is to focus on the staff's attire. "Your guests will be impressed with your attention to detail," she says.

Miles has worked with waitstaff and bartenders to customize their looks with everything from Guayabera shirts to tuxedos.

This wedding showcases another option—servers in colorful jackets. And if you're thinking you just want something little, you can score matching ties from The Tie Bar to jazz up a basic catering uniform.

A Special Guestbook

DO YOU NEED TO HAVE A WEDDING GUEST BOOK?

Didn't think you wanted a guestbook but now you've changed your mind? Pull a coffee table book from your home or order one that spotlights something special to you (like the city you got engaged in or a subject you both love) and ask guests to sign a page that speaks to them.

Stir It Up

We love custom napkins, but why not take it a step further? Put your monogram on a drink stirrer for extra impact.

Even if you don't have a signature drink it'll spruce up a basic cocktail like a gin and tonic in a matter of seconds. Even buying preexisting stirrers will have a similar effect. We love the options at Oh Happy Day's shop and Pick On Us.

Create a Hashtag

HOW TO GET YOUR GUESTS TO ACTUALLY USE YOUR WEDDING HASHTAG

Encourage snap-happy guests to post their pictures (before and after the ceremony, that is) by creating a hashtag. You can post it on your wedding website, print it on signs, and even brand the bus your guests will arrive in to maximize the photos shared.

Top It Off

Simple cakes are great but they're also great for showcasing a cake topper. eBay and Etsy have tons of options. Tuck&Bonté have casual options with a party vibe, Madeline Trait handcrafts several naturally-inspired scenes, and Alexis Mattox Design offers colored acrylic and wood toppers and the option to order a custom message. You can also be the latest in your family to use a vintage topper passed down through generations

Pillow talk

Adding a few colorful or patterned throw pillows to rented lounge furniture can make the pieces feel fresh and unique. La Tavola Fine Linen Rentals offers rental options that correspond to their table linens.

Want to go totally custom? At this tropical wedding, Tie That Binds continued the designs from the stationery suite onto pillows for the lounge. If you're open to sewing the covers yourself, or working with a seamstress, you can order fabric from Spoonflower in whatever design you want.

Late-Night Snacks

HOW TO SERVE LATE-NIGHT SNACKS AT YOUR WEDDING
Serving late-night snacks? Inject your personality here by choosing bites that you love. One couple met while working at Burger King headquarters, so Jessica Masi of Masi Events incorporated that into the packaging.

Easy Favors

Looking to add favors but not spend hours crafting something?

Find bonbons, candy, or other pretty sweets that fit the style of your day and package them in clear boxes. Adding a sticker with your monogram or logo further personalizes it. Check out sites like Candy.com and ClearBags.com to get started.

TRENDING NOW: WEDDING CEREMONY PETAL BARS

The recessional is perhaps the most joy-filled moment of the day, when the newlyweds are all smiles walking up the aisle. Get your guests in on the action by requesting flower petals from your florist.

Sign On

Wendy Kay from Birds of a Feather is all about interesting es**rt cards and seating displays but notes that adding an extra something—in this case a sign—can make quite a difference.

"The bride and groom were really into rugs and had quite a lot of them in their home," she explains of this setup. "We decided to do mini rug es**rt cards early on but added the signage on the front of the table a few weeks prior to the wedding." The wording on a sign lets you get creative—whether through a pun, or by hinting at what's to come.

Little Sipper

Jessica Masi of Masi Events has created a cordials bar for after-dinner drinks.

"By incorporating a separate bar last minute this not only adds to the décor, but also to the guest experience as they are able to enjoy some port, brandy, and array of other drinks by the lounge," she explains.

In this instance, as a surprise to the father-of-the-bride, his favorite cognac was included in the mix.

Restroom Signage

Just because the restrooms are already labeled doesn't mean you can't make them more fitting for your celebration.

Using old school photos of yourselves for fun. You could also use a component of your stationery design—say a motif or a monogram—just to make it tie in to the design of the day a little more.

Breakfast In Bed

Rebecca Marín Shepherd of The Wildflowers suggests skipping a full day-after brunch in favor of a surprise breakfast in bed for guests. Coffee and fresh pastries, or even a mimosa kit, can be easily delivered to each hotel room.

7 CUTE IDEAS FOR THE KIDS' TABLE

If you're having a lot of children at your wedding, consider presenting them their meal on kid-friendly trays. Simply Chic Events organized this meal of chicken tenders, soft pretzels, fruit, cheese, and a cookie in the shape of a lemon—the day's main motif. The disposable napkin and wood cutlery made it easy to clean up.

Involve the Children

HOW TO INCLUDE YOUR CHILDREN IN YOUR WEDDING
Another idea for kids is to ask them to participate. Young family members can read something at the ceremony, recite a short toast during the reception, or even introduce the couple as they enter the reception. Their little voices and unique perspective on things like love and marriage will entertain no matter what.

Why you should hire a wedding planner?

Getting married is a remarkable experience in anyone’s life, regardless of that person’s nationality.

It is a day of utmost importance to any couple, and that is why the celebration must be regarded and approached in the same way.

In the past, couples found it more difficult to understand and appreciate the amount of work wedding planners had to undertake, as they did not know how difficult this profession is and all the issues we have to deal with.

Nowadays, given the social importance of a wedding and the extensive information posted on the internet and social networks about these celebrations, the bride and groom respect and value the scheduling and development of a wedding, as they are aware that the planning (though it may seem a simple, beautiful and even glamorous job) is actually a very complex task.

Planning a wedding requires training, a comprehensive knowledge of the industry and tremendous dedication so that everything turns out perfectly; only a professional with years of experience in this field can ensure the best result.

Relying on a person who knows how to plan, coordinate and manage every aspect and detail of a wedding, but also is in charge of designing and styling it to your needs, advising you at all times, is priceless!

Every couple is different – they have their own taste, preferences and values; that is an indisputable fact. And that’s the reason why there all sorts of wedding styles, and consequently, different types of wedding planners.

Meeting the right professional for you will smooth the process and grant you a perfect wedding day, leaving you just this task, the most important one: be happy and enjoy your day to the full.

An increase of non-professional wedding planners along with a lack of understanding by some clients regarding the meticulous work wedding planners face, still make people unsure whether it is necessary to hire these professionals.

If you belong to the group of people who still question the benefits of hiring a wedding planner, I urge you to go through all the reasons why you should do so.

1)First of all, wedding planners are problem solvers
Planning a wedding is a continuous process of managing and solving all sorts of problems. But your wedding planner will not only sort out all issues, but also foresee and prevent them.

They will provide honest advice and full-time assistance; they will guide you and support you every step of the way, so that everything turns out the way you want. They will simplify things for you and make the preparation process more bearable.

2) Advice to organize your wedding

When you picture your wedding, hundreds of ideas come to mind – most times unconnected ideas; the things you’ve seen on Pinterest, Instagram, at our friends’ weddings, on wedding blogs … With so much information around, knowing what you really want is no easy task, but it is even more difficult to know where to start.

First of all, the wedding planner should help you find out the kind of wedding you want and then will create it and bring it to life. How? Getting to know you, capturing your vision, providing inspirational ideas, making sure everything is in perfect harmony and beautifully styled, creating a theme, to put together every piece to create a consistent and evocative decor. Getting impartial advice from these professionals will give you peace of mind, and this is the key to success.

3) They will take the stress out of the wedding of you and prevent you from feeling overwhelmed

No one better than the event planner to calm you, reassure and support you, so that you feel relaxed throughout the whole process and carry on with your normal life.

4)They will make a difficult job look easy
Thanks to their training, expertise, experience and connections they will make your wedding planning journey a pleasant one; they will take care of the choosing the right venue, negotiating terms and payment conditions with suppliers, managing every detail, arranging visits, making reservations, and so on.

As they are experts in the wedding industry, therefore, they know first-hand which are the best suppliers for each couple. They will always offer you the best options, taking into account your tastes, style and budget.

5) They will save you a lot of time

Time is precious. They will do the hard work for you and save you valuable time. The difficulties inherent in the planning of any activity are mainly related to the amount of time the development and implementation take, and that is an indisputable fact!

Besides, they will achieve more, better and faster.

6) They will manage the three major factors when planning your event: time, resources and budget

Meeting the deadlines, prioritizing tasks, making decisions based on available resources, without ever exceeding your budget can be a difficult task, so it is vital you leave this job in safe hands, i.e., professional wedding planners.

They will adapt to your needs, timing and budget, managing resources and suppliers in the best possible way for you.

7) Results guaranteed
They will meet and exceed your expectations and create the wedding you have always dreamed of. If you let yourself be guided by the know-how and the passion of your wedding planner, you will have the best wedding that you could have.

They will deliver great results and will make sure everything turns out perfectly on your big day. You have to enjoy that day to the full, every single moment; there is no room for stress or worry. Again, you need a wedding planner to take care of the smallest details that will make your wedding look wonderful.

8) They add value and distinction

Every couple is unique and so must be their wedding. We wedding planners believe that for a wedding to be truly genuine and inimitable it must reflect the personality and taste of the couple, tell their story and somehow move everyone who attends the wedding.

9) They will make sure that your guests have everything they need

When a bride and groom picture their wedding day, they not only think about enjoying themselves, but also that their guests spend an unforgettable day.

We know that it is priority to you is that the people who are going to share that special day with you feel comfortable and have a lot of fun. To do so, we need to consider the needs of everyone, either the elderly or the little ones, ensuring they enjoy every moment to the full, just like you.

From choosing the best entertainment for the little ones, to preventing your ladies’ heels from sinking into the lawn, and that each guest is given your wedding favour or that cone filled with rice / petals to throw over the happy couple as they leave the church. A good wedding planner knows every guest counts, so they will everything in their power to make everyone feel special and cared for.

10) They will turn the wedding preparation process into a nice and even enjoyable experience

It is common to think of the wedding planning phase as a stressful moment in your life, where you are always tensed up, running out of time, feeling stressed out… But that does not have to be that way.

In fact, a wedding planner will make you enjoy not only your W-day, but also the preparation process. And you will become an essential part to the decision-making process; after all, you are a team!

They will guide you and assist you at all times so that you never feel like a fish out of water. He/she will be someone to count on, someone available whenever you need him/her

We hope you find this article useful. But whatever your decision, never forget this:

Ahhhhhh finding the perfect venue isn't easy.

There are so many options to choose from, whether you're looking for a stunning barn, an elegant ballroom, a cozy restaurant, or a quiet stretch of beach.

So we asked a few wedding planners to share their top tips for finding your dream venue.

How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Venue

Talk to a Planner First

Yes, before you start looking at spaces.

"Planners are much more familiar with the capabilities of a space, the layout, and the time and items you'll need to really transform it,"

says Alliey Kline-Weichelt, lead planner and CEO of Sash & Bow in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

If there's a creative way to make it unique or a quirk about the space that could make your vision hard to accomplish, your planner will know.

Choose a Venue That Aligns With Your Vision

"This might seem obvious, but seek out venues that fit the aesthetic you have in mind, says Kait Costanti, co-owner and creative director of Bash in Bozeman, Montana.

"If you're planning a modern wedding, look at art galleries, well-designed restaurant spaces, or warehouses.

On the flip side, a wedding incorporating more natural elements works well with outdoor venues such as parks, backyards, and ranches. Choosing a venue that fits in with (and enhances) your theme will enable your wedding to feel more connected to the space."

Know Your Guest List

"Knowing how many guests you're expecting to invite before you go looking at venues will help save you from headaches and heartaches down the road," says Holly Patton Olsen, wedding planner and owner of Seattle's Perfectly Posh Events.

"If you choose a venue that is too small for your guest list and more guests RSVP 'yes' than you can fit in the space, you might be in a tough situation."

Couples often underestimate how many people they will invite (or how many their parents will want to add), so have that conversation early to know what you're really working with.

"This will also help you break down your budget, as some costs are very dependent on the number of people you're inviting," Olsen says.

Remember Your Budget

"It's more than just how much renting the space will cost," says Kline-Weichelt, since venues with in-house catering (like hotels) will charge a price-per-plate.

"Décor and floral design will also drive the cost up." Know how much your total budget is, as well as approximately what your design will cost to execute.

If adding that on top of the cost of using the space blows your budget out of the water, you'll either need to scale back your design or look at more affordable spaces.

Adds Olsen, "Break down your overall budget by category, prioritizing more funds for vendors that are a higher priority.

If you select your venue first, and then realize it's more than you should have allocated, it's an uphill battle to stay within your budget when you still have a dozen other people to hire."

Not sure how prices break down in your region?

Consult with a local planner to get information that's more specific than the national averages often found online.

Consider Your Guests' Experience

"If you're inviting a lot of out-of-town guests or having a destination wedding, look for a venue that's near (or connected to) a hotel,"

says Kline-Weichelt. "And remember their comfort within the venue, too.

The maximum capacity of a room isn't often a comfortable amount of space, so ask the venue how many people they can fit comfortably, as well as what is allowed according to the fire code."

Think About What Is Included

"If you're looking at some venues that are full-service, and some where you can bring in your own vendors and décor, be sure to price everything out," says Olsen.

"A venue with tables, chairs, and linens included might cost more upfront than a venue where you need to rent your own, but you should get an estimate from a rental company to see how they compare when you've added on the price of renting things for yourself."

And remember that the included rental items are often more basic (white linens, standard flatware, banquet chairs, etc.),

so you may still end up paying more to rent items that fit your vision better. "And if you're working with a venue that has in-house catering with a food and beverage minimum, be sure to include the tax and gratuity in your calculations.

Stay True to Yourselves

"With the influx of Pinterest weddings, a lot of couples choose venues based off of the style of a wedding they fell in love with online,"

says Costanti.

"But it's important to ask yourselves what feels authentic to you two as a couple, and to choose a space and a design that's a representation of who you are."

And remember that, while a venue might have looked gorgeous with a different theme or design scheme, it may not be the perfect canvas for yours.

Just ask one of our team xx

A heads up for weddings 2021. Always best to book with a planner.. Here's some advice

If you are hoping to get married between April and September next year, which is peak wedding season, you will be hard pressed to find a reception venue that has availability on a Thursday, Friday or weekends. The entire 2020 wedding season is effectively being crammed into 2021, so demand has gone through the roof. If you’re moving your wedding from this year to next summer, you could consider looking at mid-weeks, or keep an open mind about the location. For example, one of my clients was due to get married in a large, desirable venue but is now doing it in a marquee in the garden of one of the family homes.

2. Beware of cancellation fees – check the small print

If you choose to cancel rather than postpone your wedding, you do risk losing some of your money. The details of any cancellation fees should be detailed in your contract so check the small print. There have been some horror stories of couples being charged thousands of pounds, but these are relatively few and far between. Most venues are understanding and are willing to be flexible when it comes to cancellations and rebooking. The Competition and Markets Authority recently advised that refunds should be fair and that companies should only seek to retain money to cover any costs it has already incurred.

3. Be prepared to potentially lose some supplier deposits if rebooking

If you are rebooking your wedding for next year speak to all of your suppliers as soon as possible. If they are available in 2021 on your chosen date, then most should be willing to move for free. Their prices may rise slightly to account for inflation, increased demand and possibly other specific service charges, but generally these should be small. If your supplier isn’t available then you may find that you won’t be able to get a refund on your deposit, as most suppliers use that money as cash flow for the business, particularly smaller ones.

4. Negotiation requires patience now more than ever

The venue for one of my clients tried charging a £6,000 cancellation fee when we asked to move the wedding to next year. I did eventually manage to persuade them to back down on this, but it took nearly three months of negotiation. Although some conversations with venues or suppliers can be frustrating, a patient and friendly attitude is the best way to get what you want. If it’s just one supplier who is acting unreasonably and requesting a large fee to move to a new date, then you might be able to persuade them to change their mind by highlighting the goodwill of all your other suppliers. Even if they might not waive the entire fee, you may be able to come to some form of compromise or agree to meet in the middle.

5. Overseas weddings could increase the risk in 2021

People are still planning to get married overseas next year and I regularly receive new enquiries about weddings in Europe. However, getting married abroad does add another layer of risk and generally my advice to couples is that it may be better to wait until 2022 if they want an overseas wedding. For any elderly relatives, whether that’s parents or grandparents, travelling is more complicated, and you run the risk that a loved one will be unable to make it there on the day.

6. Put the party on hold with an intimate ceremony

Not all couples have given up hope of getting married in 2020. Some people have decided that they would prefer to have a small, intimate affair before the end of the year or early in 2021 and hold a bigger celebration at a later date, once they are able to extend the guest list. You may wish to choose a lovely private dining room in a restaurant or switch from a large hotel or country house venue, in favour of booking a single room, such as an orangery or conservatory. One of the benefits of lockdown is that venues have taken the time to conduct renovations, which is giving people extra choice. The barn or the warehouse that wasn’t an option before, may now be ready if you want to hold a small, intimate wedding.

7. Go for 2022 or later if you want your dream wedding

A lot of couples still have their hearts set on the dream wedding and it can be hard to picture a scaled down version of this. But anyone who does choose to go ahead with their wedding this year or in 2021 will have to make some sacrifices. Therefore, my advice for anyone who still wants to plan the perfect day without any limitations is to think about booking for 2022 or even later. This is especially true if you are in the process of planning your wedding and working to a relatively tight budget. By waiting until at least 2022, you might reduce the prospect of cancellations or having to move dates, which can be costly.

8. Insurance offers peace of mind but not unlimited protection

If you have rebooked a wedding for next year or are in the process of booking a wedding then make sure to check the contracts with your venue and suppliers. The most important thing to do is to ask for their updated COVID-19 terms and what options are available to you, so that you understand what will happen if you have to cancel for any number of reasons. If you’re considering taking out wedding insurance make sure you read and understand your policy. It’s unlikely it will protect you from any government-led restrictions that prevent your wedding from going ahead, but it may offer some protection if someone in your party becomes ill or if the venue has to cancel because a staff member is unwell.

9. If in doubt, then don’t rush into a booking a new date

There is still so much uncertainty about what will happen over the next couple of years, so my advice to anyone unsure about what to do or is feeling cautious, take your time and don’t rush into cancellation or booking a new date. Make sure you have all the information to hand first. If people have recently lost their job or are concerned about their future income, and have a wedding booked, then speak to your venue and suppliers and explain your situation. On these occasions, most suppliers are very understanding and sympathetic. If you still intend to get married but can’t decide on a date at the moment, then you might be able to agree a holding deposit with a supplier that means they will move your wedding free of charge up to a certain date, obviously depending on their availability.

10. Prioritise what’s most important to help keep on top of your wedding budget
Events of the past six months have acted as a strain on many people’s finances and couples who are getting married may find they have to tighten the purse strings. Discussing budgets with a venue or supplier can be the hardest part of the conversation, but it’s crucial to set realistic expectations about what is possible and what is affordable now circumstances have changed.
This view is echoed by Paul Went, managing director of Shawbrook Bank’s consumer lending division, he adds “You may find you incur some additional costs that you hadn’t accounted for when you began planning your wedding. If this is the case it’s better to prioritise what is most important and look at how you can save money in other areas, to avoid overstretching your finances at such an uncertain time. If you do choose to borrow additional funds, think carefully about what your limits are and research your available options to make the best decision for you.
