Here we go again. Breakfast, lunch and dinner for all artists and crews until Sunday


Ocean Colour Scene and Roachford are currently enjoying slow cooked featherblade of beef with gratin potatoes and roasted root veg. There’s lemon cheesecake and raspberry and white chocolate roulade for afters too!

One of the reasons I love my job is that every day is different. I’d go mad if every day was the same old same old. That’s just not challenging enough!

In the 26 years of running Epicurus however, I have found there is no consistency. Some weeks are steady, some weeks it’s quiet and other times it’s totally bonkers and tests every part of me. The last two weeks have been like that


30th May - Filming with Robson Green for his next series of Weekend Escapes for my Fells Kitchen business.
31st May - Start moving house, breakfast catering and a BBQ in Cullercoats harbour, and a buffet in Whitley Bay.
1st June - Fells’ Kitchen, ‘Goat Gourmet’ expedition in the Cheviots.
2nd June - Prep day at base.
3rd June - Breakfast and lunch catering at Dove Marine, Cullercoats harbour.
4th June - Lunch catering at Dove Marine and central Newcastle.
5th June - Breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea catering for 33 guests at Dove Marine, Cullercoats.
6th June - BBQ x 60 in Cullercoats harbour and dinner delivered to a holiday let in Alnmouth for 20.
7th June - 50 packed lunches delivered to Blyth, dinner again in Alnmouth and my mums 80th birthday party catering.
8th June - Lunch in Durham for 120.
9th June - Fells’ Kitchen, Goat Gourmet expedition in the Cheviots.
10th June - Day off, but finish moving house!

Thankfully this week has been much quieter, which is just as well, as next week I’m taking part in the Montane Spine Race, a 160 mile non-stop ultra marathon along the Pennine Way from Hawes in the Peak District to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders.

One from last year, but it seems apt as comes to an end. This is an afternoon tea I prepared last year and everything you see is suitable for a vegan diet. My client had ordered afternoon tea for the majority of the guests, and asked if I could create a plant based version too. I love getting a challenge in my job and enjoyed researching and creating this. It was much easier than I thought too. I reckon most people wouldn't have even been able to tell the difference it was so good!

So, if you or someone you know has an event with vegan requirements, please refer them to me and I'll look after them. Please share. Thanks x

I supplied a new client this week with breakfast items for a morning conference.

They requested, fruit platters, danish, muffins and hot rolls too. For the hot rolls I made bacon, sausage and mozzarella, mushroom & tomato. All of the hot sandwiches were wrapped in foil and then delivered in thermal boxes to keep them warm until required. I supplied the client some baskets to display them in when she was ready to put them out. I also supplied waters, various juices and the necessary plates and napkins too.

Last week I catered for a conference three days on the row at Newcastle University for 165 each day.

I produced three buffets, one regular (110 each day) one gluten free (15 each day) and one vegan (40 each day).

I’m quite used to catering for all types of diets these days. Just ask me!

Maple roasted glazed heritage carrots, hummus, chipotle salsa
Roasted gochujang cauliflower, lime mayo, cashews
Roasted balsamic beetroot, feta, orange & dill yoghurt
Honey, soy and ginger tofu
Sweet potato, goats cheese, figs and pomegranate

Plenty of meat dishes available too. Please get in touch if you fancy these sort of dishes at a party this year. Great for house and garden parties. I just need a room (like the garage) to use as a kitchen. Chris x

A few from the weekend for a special birthday celebration. My client requested the following.,,

Scallops, Pea Puree, Chorizo
Fillet of Beef, Parmentier Potatoes, Pepper Sauce
A Selection of Mini Puds, Cheese

I supplied all crockery, cutlery, glasses, tables and cloths and a waitress to serve. I cooked in the clients kitchen. I did not bring the dogs, Walter and Doug, who were very keen to help me!

Last Friday we supplied supper for 140 guests for the 40th Anniversary of The Sunderland Strollers Running Club at 1719, Holy Trinity Church in Sunderland. There are no cooking facilities on site and as it's a listed building, we can't build a kitchen there either. To get around this issue, I sent over an advanced team to set up a buffet table with a plates, cutlery and a hot counter. I then headed over for 20.30 with all of the food in insulated boxes and we then set it out, served everyone at 20.45, then cleared it all away afterwards

We provided for 140 guests...

Chicken Jalfrezi, Tomato & Onion Curry with Coconut, White Rice, Naan Breads, Samosas, Onion Bhajis, Yoghurt & Mint, Mango Chutney

We also hired them over 400 glasses for the event, which we are still washing now!

Last week I was asked to prepare a three course dinner party for clients to take away for the weekend and then finish off themselves on the Saturday night. I have menus called FIY (finish it yourself) just for this. I did a lot of the prep in advance, packaged it all up for collection and emailed cooking instructions complete with photos ready for the clients to follow on the Saturday.
