Taking full advantage of RPM Music's free record bins on Saturday, and of yesterday’s free afternoon to record this: a throwaway mix of 20 records they were literally throwing away!
A stack of jazzy and garage-y house, before some hip hop, and drum & bass to close. Deep, cheap & cheerful dusty grooves, some greatness, some baitness and sometimes both at the same time; a fun one for the sunnier months ahead.

Happy New Year everyone! Here's a new disco edits project I may or may not be a part of...
https://funkydiscopossegentlemensclub.bandcamp.com/album/the-boogie-bootlegs
“The Funky Disco Posse Gentlemen’s Club presents: “The Boogie Bootlegs”; 4 edits of peripheral disco music from the 80’s.
Served up we have: Brit-funk from ‘81, themes from a German library record from ‘82, a post-punk / disco not disco track from ‘88, and a cut from the soundtrack of a sci-fi family favourite from ‘86.
To round off this package we have an 𝕒𝕜𝕠 remix of one of the edits, and a special version of a track of 𝕒𝕜𝕠’s, taken from their 2020 album ‘West Babylon’, which has been given the extra earworm treatment by the FDPGC.”

Hello there, we’ve finally made it to the last month of the year, so here’s my end of the year mix! (3rd year running now).
Pretty much all the records I’ve bought, traded for, or had passed to me, since my ‘half way through 2020’ mix; if you’d believe it!
In just under 2 hours there’s 25 non-algorithmically selected records, mixed to adequacy by my hands.
One moody tone setter, then a building set through House & Breakbeats, before a few warm-down discotheque selections at the end.
Enjoy, and hopefully there’ll be a dance floor for us to share in the not too distant future, xx.
a lovely mention from NARC. Magazine of myself, Kaneda Records, & a stack of other local sound-pushers
xx.
Big thanks to NARC. Magazine / Ali Welford for including us in their North East Labels round up!
“Between a cluster of micro-scenes, North East hip-hop and electronica have arguably never been in ruder health. This surge over recent years has coincided with the emergence of Kaneda Records, who've supplied further delights from favourites such as Badger , HOLY Braille and Cass Lamb Deejay ." Ali Welford.
It’s absolutely lush to be mentioned alongside some local legends including Box Records , Butterfly Effect , Cruel Nature Records, Inverted Grim-Mill Recordings, N-aut, Opal Tapes, Panurus Productions , soft verse , Treetrunk records and Win Big Records 🖤🖤

My track ‘Enstasy’ got a play yesterday on the BBC Music Introducing in the North East radio show, stacked up alongside loads of other local talent. Radio show is here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08v1mq0
‘Enstasy’ appears on the House Blend EP, released via Kaneda Records, found here: https://kanedarecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-house-blend-ep

a wee feature with NARC. Magazine, where Fields and myself chat inspirations for the House Blend EP, out now on Kaneda Records

Mine and Fields’ EP out now on Kaneda Records !
https://kanedarecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-house-blend-ep
The House Blend project started as a low-key evening of DJing at Arch Sixteen Café: a place that I have always enjoyed playing and championing over the years, which sadly seems to not be opening its doors again in the foreseeable future (rip).
The House Blend evenings were directly inspired by the Ubuntu Records evenings I had worked on in the past with Nathan Williams which were in the same space, and had the same formula of extended back to back sessions, from early evening til night, with a fairly liberal definition of ‘house’ music.
The House Blend name came from cafes and coffee manufacturers who advertise their own specific ‘house blends’ of coffee beans. We thought that this illustrated our idea of blending house music in the cafe venue, while also giving a nod to our own specific blend of house music we were playing; which includes house (obviously), deep techno, disco, electro, breakbeats, ukg, and ambient, downtempo, jazz, hip hop, 80’s new wave, and various strains of ‘world music’ (for lack of a better term), which were for the ‘warm up’ sections of the night. Once Jonah had drawn our ‘Coffee Bean on Decks’ mascot the concept was sealed.
The nights went well and we had a lot of fun, but for a few reasons we couldn’t keep it up, and the project lay dormant.
This EP not only gives the chance for both of us to spill our beans as producers, but it acts as a send off for Fields, who has recently relocated to the Netherlands, and for House Blend itself, which lies dormant again for the time being.
My half has notes of deep house, while Fields’ is more to a breakbeat palate.
(Check here for a wee feature with Narc where we discuss a few of our inspirations
http://narcmagazine.com/six-of-the-best-cass-lamb-fields/ )
Thanks to Callum Hays/ Lurch for the mastering, sounds phat as always.
And thanks to Ben for the photography.
Enjoy, and keep percolating xx
Large thanks to North East premier rave outfit Tunnel Club for playing the Fields remix of my 'Swim Deep 98' track on their Timeless radio show.

Hello, hope everyone’s doing okay..
Because the last 6 months have felt like a whole year, and because record buying is probably going to be low on the agenda for the foreseeable future (boohoo), I’ve recorded a mix of most of the records I’ve got my grubby mitts on this so far this year.
www.mixcloud.com/cass-lamb/halfway-through-2020-mix/
House, UK Garage, Breaks, and a couple of chance finds that I’ve found have become more poignant as this year has progressed. One take, fast and loose, something fun for summer.
Special shout outs to Fields for passing on 40% of these tracks in this mix; our split EP coming v soon.
Thanks, & enjoy x
